JOIN DRAMA!! Join chorus! Join the band! The arts in high school, even if it's a small drama, chorus, band, etc., the friends you'll make and the fun you'll have is like nothing else. Get good grades, but have a fun time in High School. I'm so glad I was involved in the arts. I played trumpet all through middle and high school. Did some chorus ensembles which were really fun, played in the marching band, jazz band, concert band, and in the pit orchestra for musicals. Arts kids are the best!! If you're more tech-oriented or visual arts oriented, get involved with drama and theater through audio/sound/lighting/electrics, carpentry/set design, wardrobe, stage management or theater management. In H.S. you can try different things and see what roles you like and what you're good at. There are so many great roles to play in the arts. There's really something for everyone, and having worked in the arts as a career now for 20 years, I can say, it is a FUN career. I truly wouldn't trade it for a desk job at some corporation for anything in the whole world. ★
+Gracie Anderson I think he's at a disadvantage with the initial movements and jump from the ladder. But he's doing great despite that. I just think that first choreography was very inconsiderate of how demanding this song is on the singer. Also, they needed a few people to do some of the background yelling or echoing words - he had to do it all when it should be spread out a bit more. (Ex: he says first "shot", then others echo, instead of him saying Shot 4 times).
+Andrea Dee Absolutely! The performer did a fabulous job nonetheless, but I agree that it must have been very difficult due to the choreography/performance execution.
It's very difficult, but you can train yourself to take full breaths in around half a second (if we're talking about me specifically) I still couldn't do this well, but my school is doing Alexander Hamilton during our last choir concert, and I'm Washington's solo, and I get one beat to get a full breath. it's challenging but you can improve
The Hamilton was great but holy shit why are we not talking about the dancers?? That's not easy choreography and they did such a great job with it? This whole thing is just so good.
+thebookbasement My friends are doing a medly of Hamilton for our graduation ceremony. It encompasses my shot, Story of Tonight and...I forgot the last one...lol.
Asian Big Smoke I'm not too sure, but there's a video of a graduation medley on UA-cam that uses My Shot, The Story of Tonight and One Last Time. It's probably what this guy was talking about.
Holy shit this is so elaborate, and you guys pulled it off so well! And the kid playing Ham totally did justice to the role! This is the stuff I like to see!
Lin are you watching this? Give this kid a Shot. I can see him doing Hamilton. He hits every syllable like Eminem. He has presence and sense the hunger that Hamilton has for success. Good luck whoever you are. I'm sure I'll be seeing you on stage. I have to say I enjoyed your performance more than Javier Munoz.
This performance is brilliant, especially since we get a glimpse of what Hamilton must have looked like when he was nineteen. Dezhane Te Hira needs to go to Broadway, or attend Juilliard for the Performing Arts because he is super talented.
+Priya Sridhar Just a small but essential correction, that being that it's "Juilliard." Frequently misspelled, so you're in large company on that. Beyond that, agreement. Though there are numerous other colleges/universities with excellent theater, and specifically musical theater programs, that some would put ahead of Juilliard, depending on a student's desired emphasis. In any case, strong talent on display here.
Actually just realised that I'm probably connecting with this so hard because he's young and showing all the energy of an actual real nineteen year old Hamilton singing this.
the choreography was so mean though. I've seen the musical and the choreography is no where this complex. Like y'all have to let the guy breathe. But I guess if it was just one scene.
Hamilton's choreography may have not been so demanding for the lead singer but it was definitely still difficult and way more symbolic than this. This high schools production is still amazing though
whoever played hamilton... you are so amazing. HOW DO YOU JUMP AROUND AND RAP AND DO ALL OF THE CHOREOGRAPHY!? great version, absolutely did justice to the original xx
The kid playing Hamilton had so much energy and he was so into it!!! It's obvious everyone here really wanted to be here, and that made it absolutely amazing. This is what I need to see from more highschool drama productions, instead of self-entitled kids who think they're hot shit and don't even try.
Being a High School performance, I wasn't really expecting much but I admit, I am very pleasantly surprised. Thumbs up guys! I wish our theater could choreograph this well. xD
Excellent performance from all of you, including director/choreographer! So, I'm thinking that Hamilton needs to make his way to those controversial auditions in May. Why not? Go for it, baby!
What fantastic, creative, original staging -- not only for a high school, but for anyone. This choreographer gave Hamilton something to *work* against, fighting against a group of people who are indifferent to him at first, then slowly come to join his revolution. Brilliant work, Joshua Long! And an incredible performance, Dezhane Te Hira! You've all got the goods!!!
I can't say this is just good for high schoolers, this is amazing within itself. I'm impressed these kids could perform almost-broadway level stuff. Whoever their instructor is must be a man/woman of wonders.
+Mauri Hefley it's such beautiful lighting. I would love to light something as cool as this. but I mean I did get to light shrek the musical for my schools musical so I guess that's cool
+Mauri Hefley nice! My old school would have totally done this (principle supported our drama program a lot) in my new school it would never happen. The principle is only interested in sports and gives the drama program no money. And when I approach him with an idea he get's confrontational.
aaaaall the goosebumps watching this!! It is too awesome!!! you guys are amazing!!! and that kid playing Hamilton is soooo going all kinds of places!! Just you wait, just you wait!!!
Dezhane Te Hira needs to audition for the real thing. Not kidding, man. They're having open auditions or you can send in a video audition! Please do it!
Sometimes I come back to this video just so I can sit in awe of it. Not only was Dezhane amazing as he played Hamilton, but he had some great co-workers! I like how it showed them being reluctant to the change he sang about, but then it showed kinda American throughout history, realizing they have to "rise up" if they want a better future :D All of this was just great! Whatever route Dezhane decides to go through life, man do I hope we get to see this guy in front of a crowd!!
What is so amazing is the fact that he’s doing the choreography and moving and jumping around and he does NOT miss ANY syllable or any word. All of the lyrics are clear, this is just incredible and i’m a big hamilton fan, im SHOOKETHH !!
Fantastic in every way. Dezhane Te Hira! Sign this kid up for the national tour. I mean it! Great take on the choreography too. Infinite talent there on your stage.
OMG Hamilton and the dancers are insane... I mean when he jumps over the table, they take away the tablecloths and throw them at him and he grabs them - such great coordination! And the guy sliding under the table and kicking the chair so he could be right on the front of the stage? That's amazing!
Hamilton’s really good for a high schooler. He’s got a lot of energy. I’ve watched a lot of these and it dawned on me that all of the high school cover actors are like two years younger than Hamilton’s supposed to be.
Oh my god! This was so amazing! I had chills the whole time. This kid has some serious talent, I hope to see him go somewhere in theatre! I can't believe this is a high school
This kid is insane, maaan!! *.* I mean, seriously, it's just....awesome, wow! You nailed it. I wish you good luck with your further acting career, if you are planning one. You should. And the dancers were also gr8, the whole production is perfect (not just at high school standards). Loved it!!
Joel 2:32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has promised, among the remnant called by the LORD
imagine how popular this kid got after this performance.
He's already sooo popular at our school!

HOW DOES HE HAVE ENOUGH BREATH TO DO THIS
+Gracie Anderson I think he's at a disadvantage with the initial movements and jump from the ladder. But he's doing great despite that. MAGIC!
(and practice)
The Hamilton was great but holy shit why are we not talking about the dancers?? That's not easy choreography and they did such a great job with it? This whole thing is just so good.
I agree the Broadway dance was insane
because the guy singing is doing three people in the song without break
(immediately transfers to hillcrest high school)
+thebookbasement My friends are doing a medly of Hamilton for our graduation ceremony. It encompasses my shot, Story of Tonight and...I forgot the last one...lol.

+lalaland19991 he is absolutely doing his job up in this rumpus

Oops, thank you for the correction. And agreed, there are plenty: UCLA, Oberlin, even my alma mater.

honestly such a fantastic adaption for the high school stage. Te Hira really carried it but everyone did an excellent job
literally the second the video ended i just went "HE'S GOOD". this kid seriously has a very promising future in theater. honestly, i had chills.

You shoulda seen this kid play Benny in In The Heights last year. It was KILLER
+Nathanael Abbott omg do you go to school. do you have videos of him playing benny?
+Ore B sadly I do not. But it was phenomenal
That leap off the stairs and not missing a beat. Pro!
The dude who played Hamilton should be on Broadway playing the title role!!!
Um that was so good wtf who gave you the right to be that good
