Bro, this is exactly what I'm looking for with a lesson... just show me in the first 2 minutes so I can do it and then if I want to keep analyzing you do a great job! Perfect video 10/10!
Late to the party here but just wanted to say your lessons are fantastic - especially for the few Dead songs I've seen. Keep doing more of those, please ! haha
Great lesson man! Just trying to explain chord tones and mixolydian and you do great job of breaking it down on an easy tune. And landing on the 3rd. Great lesson man!
Thanks for the comment. We have a great lesson on a John Mayer Sugaree solo from a live Dead and Company performance coming soon. We will be breaking it down note for note covering the chord tone targeting and what scales he might be using.
Check out our live lesson on John Mayer Sugaree Solo. An in depth improvisational study focusing on chord tone targeting, application of Mixolydian mode, and articulations! Great for those learning more meaningful, melodic solos! Friday Oct 29th 8:00PM EST SIGN UP TODAY! ua-cam.com/video/MnjUEaAsGQk/v-deo.html
Thanks for the lesson. The extra licks really make it special. When I try to improvise using the B or E or anything really, it all sounds the same. Do you have any lessons on how to really use the minor or major pentatonic scales? I know the boxes, but I mainly see it as a scale and not a tool for improvisation.
Dave, I totally understand where you are coming from. For years I was stuck in a "scalular phase". Improvisation really comes together when you combine your scale knowledge with chord tone targeting. Periodically I do live zoom classes where we study a solo and breakdown the scales used along with the chord tones. If you are interested I have a few coming up, one on the solo to Hotel California and one on a BB King solo. You can check out my live classes at csgalive.com. I will also be posting lessons on these topics here throughout the year. Full Sugaree solo coming soon!
