@@davealmeida9786 So I had A4 B8 2008 Sedan with 2.0TDI Automatic Multitronic 6 speed gearbox. I had it with 240 000km and on Audis 2.0tdi you have to swap belt once you go 190 000kms so thats pretty good. Seats are perfect for long ride but get Proline not S line. If you are not able to afford it you can go with Passat instead, you could say it is a cheaper version of audi. Just a little worse paintjob and interior is not that great but the seats are comfy.. and the downgrade from Passat would be Skoda Octavia, same thing but cheaper matherials.

Just wanted to clarify, so people don't get afraid of buying a 2.0 TFSi engine from VW/AUDI. If you're looking at an Audi A4, A5 or Q5 from 2004-2012, my advice would be, stay away, and get an A6 or similar, if you absolutely want the TFSi engine.
My 1,8T A6 engine with a manual is FANTASTIK, 20 years old. No issues what so ever other than services. I will keep it until I buy an EV, a Tesla or Audi E-tron.
My uncle drove an A6 avant c5 from 2003 with the 2.4 gasoline engine and 170hp. I was amazing drove it only twice :( He felt that a problem is coming the tiptronic was going down after 185.000km. Kinda sad tbh I liked the car lot and it had a sunroof :D But like I said kinda sad that it had problems after 185.000km only..
I must say that anything between 1998 -2001 is more reliable, I have a 2001 A6 2.8, yes I know it’s about 20 years old but the previous owner took great care of it and I recently bought it at only 100,000 miles I have to say it was a lucky find but the car is really smooth, all electric in the car works perfect sound system is amazing, as long as you keep up with ur oil changes and you know how to do your own diagnostics it’s a great car
The I reckon you 100% correct! I start with a 2000 a4 b5 non turbo years ago no major issues and now I've recently gotten back into the game with a 2000 a4 1.8t quattro and I must say very well build quality especially compared to my last audi which was a 2003 allroad. I reckon it's cause they over engineered them back then and we're made in Germany and not south Africa it was the peak of audi quality. I'm glad your on the same pages as me
That's scary. I have now over 110 miles with my 3.2, 2010 Q5 and no such issues yet. Only major problem is the cost to change one of the back shocks (recommended to do both instead of one). It may be time for me to sell it before even changing the shocks! My Audi A6 has less than 50k miles so no issues so far but still under warranty. From what I saw the S series are reliable (S6), so may look into that series.
@@robbym3542 No motor is bulletproof. All I'm saying is that any known issues from the earlier variant have been revised and its supporting components with known failures have been replaced.
I’ve always loved Audis but never owned one. Just got my first and it’s old but was babied it’s whole life and has low miles. I Feel like I’m really starting to get it. These cars have character and stand out!
I never considered an Audi until I drove a 13 s4. I've been doing research and considering options. Often times older s4s and s5s show up in the price range I'm considered with less than 130k km. My concerns for the 4.2l is the timing components. This engine has taming components on both ends, so it must be pulled to service them.
A mention on this, I have a 2015 2.0tdi Audi A6, DPF failed at 70k (Common fault according to audi) they also look for cool $3000 to replace them which isn't great, on top of that the actuators also are notorious for failing which can now only be calibrated by Audi who also recommend replacing the turbo when this fails along with the N75 valve, they have also had recalls on injectors failing. If you are buying a new diesel Audi beware of the above before buying.
Thanks for the vid! Curious about the list that you posted @3:29 - how did you come up with the list, and should we truly avoid variants that aren't on the list? Also, looking a bit further, some of the info you mention seem to conflict with your recommended list. For instance, you mention the 3.2 FSI as one of the most reliable petrol engines @1:26. You then get into transmissions and mention @2:42 that the multitronic CVT has some issues, with the Tiptronic autos being far superior. Yet, in your recommendations for bulletproof Audis you list for the A4 the 2.0 TDI which only comes with CVT, yet leave out the A4 3.2 FSI Quattro with Tiptronic? Just curious as to why this was so. Thanks!
I bought A brand new 2015 Audi A4 quattro 2.0T Its now 2019 I Love the car but I've changed #1 stock front Rotors warped 2 times already at 30k miles and 65k miles (upgraded to slotted and drilled now) #2 motor mounts at 70k miles #3 valve cover gasket at 75k miles Hope this helps just know Audi will charge a lot to do these jobs. I work on the car myself now and Ive saved a lot of money. Beats paying $300 for a simple oil change.
Does yours burn oil? Or did they fix that on the newer models? I'm driving a 2012 a4 and putting in a quart every 1000 km's.... the book even states its normal, oh well!
A3 1.6 TDI 2010 220,00 miles. Oil change every 3000 miles. Engine quiet and smooth. Everything original except new clutch and fuel pump fitted ( tank ). Some things have failed, AC stopped working. I think it needs to be recharged but I never bothered. Bushings on suspension have failed a few times ( possibly due to huge pot holes ) and over heating issue because of blocked heater matrix ( never use radiator blocker / Radweld ). Water pump needed replacing twice ( source of water leak ).
Problems with the rear lights. The intensity weakens over time due to some thin cables. The 1.8 TFSI engine sucks. Problems with the instrument cluster at 146,000km from an Audi TT from 2007.
Would a 2012 Audi A6 3.0 with the 8speed be considered reliable? It has become one of my favorite cars and I want to purchase one but am worried it will bring me more problems. Please advise me.
Hi can you do a video about the entire group as i have a skoda and audi in the past i have owned a volkswagen and never had a seat. I am extremaly happy about the skoda octavia i have 2004 1.9tdi ot has 350,000 miles !!!! My dad has a Skoda Octavia mk2 from 2005 with a 1.9 TDi and it has 200,000km. We bought it brand new and no problenms so far. Audi/Seat/Skoda/Volkswagen have 90% the same engines and transmissions. Audi is the premium segment of Volkswagen, but you will find most problems with 1.2 tfsi /1.8 tfsi / 2.0 tfsi (or TSI) in the entire VW Group as well. I will consider another video on this topic. Thanks!
Just bought the 2015 Audi s6 with 60k miles on it as my first car at the age of 17 I can say nothing but great I have multiple tunes and no issues. Obsoletely amazed!!!
Good video thanks I've heard that 2.7 and 3.0 engines are extremely reliable and the oil consumption is super low, the one thing I don''t wanna do is buy a car with a big oil consumption, its super annoying especially on long journeys. I will sub and like.
Audi S3 or s4, for between 24 and 28k you can get a s3 or s4 with fairly low miles and possibly CPO. Tunable and parts are hugley common, especially the A3 and S3 since they are on the same platform as the VW Golf/GTI/GOLF R
Good stuff and you seem legit. My A6 3.2 was bullet proof, 256,000 miles (412,000 KM). I would like your opinion on something. Of these three which would you recommend? 2018 Audi S5, 2014 Audi S8, or 2015 Porsche Cayman and maybe 2016 Porsche Panamera 4?
Hi whats your opinion of the 2013 Audi A7 3.0 tfsi with 150000km ? I would like to get one but doesnt know that how reliable it is . What do you think about the 2013 Audi A7 3.0 biTDI is it a great car or the TFSI is a much better choise ?
If you want more from a car get a BMW (but not the new x1 or other FWD platform), Jaguar or a Mercedes in the same price range. They are not necessarily faster or more capable but a good balance is always a plus. Audi's are not bad at all but they screwed the weight distribution. Also specialists are not impressed by the steering feedback. But other than that they are fine. I'm not particularly a BMW fan although I own two. I appreciate other models as well like the audi A5 3.0 or S with the sport differential and torque vectoring that also looks very well, or decent sports cars honda s2000, mazda mx5, ginetta g40, lotus elise, westfield. As for SUVs there is the jag F pace and AR stelvio that do more than just being premium SUVs. Also the P. Macan is good but that's getting expensive and probably expensive maintenance.
I always advice people to NOT buy BMWs especially with over 200.000km (I'm a mechanic and repair those craps). They are notorious for having many expensive issues, like all models. 4cyl models stretch and break chains, 6cyl models are best, but have both chain, VANOS, valvetronic and oil consumption issues on some 2000's models. V8 are just too expensive to maintain if you take it to a garage, not to talk about V10 or V12 models. And I wouldn't call them better handling in any way.
i had a 2003 A6 with the 4.2 liter, I bought it 4 years old with 38k miles on it. Beautiful ride...BUT reliability wise..the worst car ever.It was a piece of crap.
@@Will3ist As far as reliability and working on it, it's a great car. But you absolutely need the right engine and then tend to the rust prevention/management. The facelifted C5 had many of the first problems ironed out such as the front suspension being a flimsy joke.
@@RS-ABSOLUTE so it's very reliable or not, what goes wrong wjth these cars ,sorry I ask all this cuz I'm gonna check one out what should I ask about the engine??
GREAT video! Thank you. I’m an American who is moving back to Europe. When I lived there before, I owned an Audi A3. I’d like to get one again. HOWEVER, I’d love your expert opinion on comparable Skoda and VW models to the A3. Thank you!
Thanks. I will make sure I take care of the transmission in my S5 3.0 V6 convertible. Its brilliant. Pity it have the manual option. All the best............
I do not know if this is still needed for you, but dont confuse the A4, A5 and Q5 2.0 TFSI engines with the A6 TFSI engine, the engine with the oil consumption problem is called EA-113, and is used in the A4, A5 and Q5, the A6 TFSI engine is a BPJ engine, which do not have the problem - anyways, the problem should have been fixed after 2012, so if you're looking at an A4, A5 or Q5, the oil consumption problem shouldn't be there, but keep in mind, you can always be unlucky.
An Audi mechanic told me that the oil problems of the 2.0 TFSI are because the castrol oils(the manufacturer's recomend) become water after a few hundred km and the rings around the pistons wear off ,so the oil goes in the combution chamber. An Audi mechanic told me that. I read also that many BMW that have used castrol oil have had the same problems.
Yes because 90% of people think that Castrol is the God of engine oils so they use that all the time. And they are complaining about it's overpricing. Personally, I dislike castrol just because of its hype. And it has way better alternatives for a more reasonable price. Just use a good brand of motor oil like Mobil, Eneos, Eni, Total etc. Just check the performance levels and manufacturer approval. Those are the only thing to look for. I own an Audi A4 1.6 (B5) and I run it with Mobil 10W40. Because the VW standard covers 5W40, 5W30, 10W40 etc SAE markings, you have the freedom of choice. My car is an early model from 1999, it as 266k kms, eats 1-2 deciliters of oil every 700km or so. But hey, every VW enginde does that. I changed from 5W40 to 10W40 because the 5W lasted only 5000km-s. Little 1.6 ate it.
The 2.5TDI inline 5 is as solid as it gets, the same as older 1.9TDI but with an extra cylinder pretty much. The pump is reversed tho and it has the pump drive at the back of the camshaft.
What's the best year model Audi A8 D4 with the least amount of problems? Should I go back to a 2008? I've seen several problems with the 2010 through 2017 models. Problems with water system, fuel system leakage, rain water leakage into the interior of the car. Problems with air suspension after a certain amount of miles.
SQ5 are bulletproof. Engine is overbuilt and the 8 speed Zf is quick. X4 are BMW and depending witch engine you choose you can have some oil issues and the famous gasket problems all BMW have ( their gaskets are cheap and tend to fail quicker than other brands) hope that helps
(Audi A5 2.7 tdi ) Which engine was more reliable 2007 or 2008? There is any change or it's the same? Sry, I can't find any conclusions about that. Best regards.
I have a 2013 Audi A7 S-Line with the 2.8 FSI V6 and the DSG (Audi’s DCT) and Quattro (Torsen). It’s still a low mileage one (21K miles/34K km). Any issues I should look out for in the future??
Yes, I wonder why this was not mentioned, as it has no known serious issues even at high mileage, no oil consumption or chain issues, but the 6,3W12 that is much rarer is mentioned. I'm on my second A8L W12, both fantastic cars and engines. And as said, most V6/V8 FSI engines have chain issues more or less. Some even as low as under 100.000km. Many A8/Q7 on the market with replaced 3,0/4,2TDI engines around 200.000km, often due to chain issues, especially 2011-> the 3,0TDI is known for leaking coolant and chain problems.
I'm considering a used 2017-2018 Audi A8L 4.0T (the last two years of the model D4) hoping that they've worked out all the problems. I do most of my own maintenance and keep my cars a long time. Reliability is very important to me. What's your opinion? Thanks for your advice.
Great car. Just use a preventative strategy for GDI inlet port coking. This approach is working fine: halved the nominal engine oil change intervals, use 100% PAO based engine oil and employ CRC GDI inlet cleaner before oil change.
Hey there! Can you share any specific experience/knowledge regarding the 2017-2018 Audi S6 (C7)? What are the most common issues? What is the overral reliability? Thanks in advance!
Listen!.....Americans are lazy! Plain and simple, especially when it comes to automotive maintenance. European cars were not built with us in mind, we don't want to do "nothin" for maintenance, then we cry like babies and bad-mouth when they breakdown! Japanese cars are specifically made for Americans. They know we are just some lazy asses!
I have a mk7 GTi i purchased in 2017 brand new. I probably put 6400km each year. What should be my oil change intervals timewise? Every 6months or once a year? Driving is mostly 60% city and 40% highway.
So in my country, Audis are pretty expensive in general. I have narrowed down that the best option for the best price would be the A4 Allroad 2.0 TDI. Here is why I think that. It is the 2.0 TDI which is a reliable engine, it has the real Quattro in it, and has an s-Tronic gearbox, which is the one I prefer. All for the same/lower price of a normal A4. My guess is that the only reason it is cheaper is that it is considered "not attractive" so it has a lower target market. Now, If I buy that, and add on the s-line kit, and do an ECU tweak and upgraded exhaust system, I am basically left with a close S4 competitor and a good looking car, for the same price as an A4. I would love an Audi veterans opinion on this?
Thank you for your informative video. can you please suggest is it worth to buy Audi a3 1.6tdi 2014 model which has approx 150000km on clock? I love Audi but also looking for something that is reliable with lower maintenance cost as well. I really appreciate your feedback Thanks again.

I have cousin in Germany which work like mechanic for more of 20years.
thank you so much for this video, i am considering to purchase a used Audi 2009-2012 A4 or A5- leaning more towards the A5 however I am really worried about the oil consumption issue and heard it only gets worse the more kilometers you put on it and can cause engine failure. Also heard a lot of issues with the timing chain- my understanding is that 2013 and newer dont have these issues, but find they are out of my price range.

3000 € for timing chain problem
That's scary. I have now over 110 miles with my 3.2, 2010 Q5 and no such issues yet. Only major problem is the cost to change one of the back shocks (recommended to do both instead of one). It may be time for me to sell it before even changing the shocks! My Audi A6 has less than 50k miles so no issues so far but still under warranty. From what I saw the S series are reliable (S6), so may look into that series.
Matthew Song Loong the v8 has all sorts of issues with some requiring to take the whole bloody engine out!
I like how fast you talk man, its smooth and to the point! Thanks for the great content
audi reliability has gone up pretty significantly on the 2017+ TFSI engines
It a new engine. Of course it will be reliable. Just wait a few more years and the problems will roll in.
@@robbym3542 No motor is bulletproof. All I'm saying is that any known issues from the earlier variant have been revised and its supporting components with known failures have been replaced.
Among the big four of german automobiles the like of mercedes benz, porsche, bmw, and audi, I can say audi is the top dog of them all.
People who say he’s speaking too fast listen too low
I’ve always loved Audis but never owned one. Just got my first and it’s old but was babied it’s whole life and has low miles. I Feel like I’m really starting to get it. These cars have character and stand out!
I never considered an Audi until I drove a 13 s4. I've been doing research and considering options. Often times older s4s and s5s show up in the price range I'm considered with less than 130k km. My concerns for the 4.2l is the timing components. This engine has taming components on both ends, so it must be pulled to service them.
Do u know what is the most reliable A8 ever ? I guess it is either 2013 or 2014 ! But not sure . It tends to be 2013 supercharge V6
@@yazeedoro what about 2.0 Liter in the S3
I have had 2 x 4.2V8s one was an S5 the other an 04 Touareg. Both very reliable.
Wow - that's sure disappointing.
DPF delete , problem solved forever :D
Thanks!
I'd want a 6 cylinder A6 in quattro as my next car from around 2010. Thanks for the nice guide!

I bought A brand new 2015 Audi A4 quattro 2.0T Its now 2019 I Love the car but I've changed
#1 stock front Rotors warped 2 times already at 30k miles and 65k miles (upgraded to slotted and drilled now)
#2 motor mounts at 70k miles
#3 valve cover gasket at 75k miles
Hope this helps just know Audi will charge a lot to do these jobs. I work on the car myself now and Ive saved a lot of money. Beats paying $300 for a simple oil change.
Does yours burn oil? Or did they fix that on the newer models? I'm driving a 2012 a4 and putting in a quart every 1000 km's.... the book even states its normal, oh well!
can you just give us a list of cars that you think are more reliable and then a list of ones not to buy.

Hmm, what are problems specific to Audi TT models from 2006 forward with 2.0 TFSI engine?
Is the thing about problems with injector coils a myth?
Problems with the rear lights. The intensity weakens over time due to some thin cables. The 1.8 TFSI engine sucks. Problems with the instrument cluster at 146,000km from an Audi TT from 2007.
I had a Audi A4 2.0tfsi 2006 model, and it drank oil like crazy
I had a 2.0 fsi A3 before that the N/A version and that car was bullet proof.
Would a 2012 Audi A6 3.0 with the 8speed be considered reliable? It has become one of my favorite cars and I want to purchase one but am worried it will bring me more problems. Please advise me.

Thanks!

Good video thanks I've heard that 2.7 and 3.0 engines are extremely reliable and the oil consumption is super low, the one thing I don''t wanna do is buy a car with a big oil consumption, its super annoying especially on long journeys. I will sub and like.
In the market for an Audi. Used between 2015-2017. What are the most reliable options? Also speed is a plus with tune capability
What year was your A6
Hi whats your opinion of the 2013 Audi A7 3.0 tfsi with 150000km ?
How do you feel about an 2013-2015 Audi A5 Quattro Premium Plus 2.0t? Like is it worth the buy with 65-95k on the engine?
i had a 2003 A6 with the 4.2 liter, I bought it 4 years old with 38k miles on it. Beautiful ride...BUT reliability wise..the worst car ever.It was a piece of crap.

What are your opinions about the TFSI engines starting with 2013?
I've heard that oil consumptions problems were pretty much fixed.
My wife has ‘15 A4 and doesn’t burn a drop, nothing added between 4-5k oil changes.
Thinking about 2005 3.2 FSI 188Kw with 200k km and manual transmission what kind of issues could it have? Great video btw, love it!
Cam chains would worry me at that millage. Should be OK if oil changed regularly but listen out for chain rattle..
Great explanation. Also it’s soothing for some reason.
Little 1.6 ate it.
delfino8989 there's a recall on the piston rings on certain 2.0 audi engines. I've never heard anything about the oil being the culprit..
Stephen R same interesting
What about the older engines for example the r5 2.1l - 2.3l and 2.5tdi in the c3 and c4 audi 100/a6

A8 6.0 W12 is a solid engine
I used to have an 2004 A3 2.0 TDI same colour as yours and I loved that car so much!

Hey there! Can you share any specific experience/knowledge regarding the 2017-2018 Audi S6 (C7)? What are the most common issues? What is the overral reliability? Thanks in advance!
Audis used to be amazing cars....now they break and leak oil during the first year.
Thats just how you treat them
And how its combination transmision and engine they all good but they have issues like a all cars
Maybe if you live in America, your models are not built by germans. Maintenance is cheap and they have better build quality here in Europe.
I have a mk7 GTi i purchased in 2017 brand new. I probably put 6400km each year. What should be my oil change intervals timewise? Every 6months or once a year? Driving is mostly 60% city and 40% highway.
Great Video : What you suggest in 3.0 TDI tiptronic quatro I mean how much km should I buy maximum with ? I mean how long they run usually reliable ?
Audi A3 8p 1.6 ( petrol) 3 doors ( 2003) with 225k milleage for 3000€ good buy?
Thank you for your informative video.

thank you so much for this video, i am considering to purchase a used Audi 2009-2012 A4 or A5- leaning more towards the A5 however I am really worried about the oil consumption issue and heard it only gets worse the more kilometers you put on it and can cause engine failure.
