- John Sheahan of The Dubliners celebrates his life and music with a gathering of Ireland’s finest musicians. On the morning of the funeral of a family friend, John woke up from a dream with this complete tune in his head. A few minutes later, while playing it for the first time, his wife’s brother was reading out a list of runners for a horse race, and when he mentioned Feathered Gale, John said, “That’s the name of the tune.” He placed a bet with the bookies. The horse came in third and after the funeral he related the whole story to the bereaved husband, and handed him the winnings.
Jackie Coleman’s is a well known reel often played in traditional sessions. John learned it years ago from his good friend, Barney McKenna. The performers on this track are (from left to right).
Colm Mac Con Iomaire - Violin
Danny O’Mahony - Button Accordion
Gavin Murphy - Piano

Michael Howard - Guitar

What a wonderful - and moving - occasion this must have been!
John is such a great personality. I think, he brought the biggest part and invest that the Dubs stayed together for 50 years. His fiddle- and tin whistle skills are extraordinary and made the sound of the Dubs unique!
