@baribc i'll use the terminology they used in the 20's/30's & 40's...to differentiate the schools of thought in dance....the WHHI *dancers*..are "technically" STUDIO hiphop dancers...meaning the style they do is derived from,& learned in a dance studio...where as the style i do,& teach.would be considered the "street",or "club" version...which is where the style is originally derived from....the former is derived from the latter...peace
@baribc 1-hiphop music is defined like it's always been...BY THE CULTURE! 2-ask a ballet dancer,when they ENTER A CYPHA...you'll SEE your answer clearly! 3-if he's a bboy,he'll be BREAKING..as Salsa isn't a completely different style,with it's own vocab 4-what i danced to WASN'T jazz-funk lol..it's was jazz-HIPHOP fusion by Common called "I AM MUSIC"...no funk was involved!we showed the lineage of HIPHOP dance from the Charleston,& Lindy Hop on down to the CrissCross,& walk-it-out...study!
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Dwayne Phoenix i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@BUDDHASTRETCH68 - So hiphop music is define by having that break. More so than the drums I take it, as all sorts of music has drums. What are your views on the competition "World hiphop International" last one being in vegas. I find 80 - 90 % of the music doesn't even have a "break" in it, and generally is RnB, pop, soul or some form of techno. Would you say techinically they are not hiphop dancers they are more street dancers, or urban or what ever you may call them?
Really!? I never heard of this guy! So, Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel all have to pay homage to this guy?? Interesting…🤔
@OgDj if he wasn't there to spread the dance around the world half of the dancer will had no interest about U.S.A and it s Music history and the culture... he just received price for his work around the world and how he spread the culture through the dance Side for the 50 years of hip hop... poeple that didn't knew shit about Afrikaa B or Kool Herc were educated through Mr. BUDDHA STRETCH. For as long as he started to dance.. so please if you are just interested on one side of the culture step aside... Knowledge should the first element of this culture... but obviously you don t have it... peace love and unity... and have fun... but with RESPECT. be safe 🙏🏽
@@NIAKOLEGIONX First of all, I never said that this guy didn’t start whatever movement he started. But I did say, I never heard of him. Never heard of him from the 70s, the 80s or the 90s. All the people I mentioned in my last response are legends in the Hip-Hop culture and their names ingrained into the very essence of Hip-Hop! But I never heard of this guy. A lot of the dance, culture in Hip-Hop was birth through the music first. You absolutely cannot have dents, without the music aspect of it. That being said, I never heard of this guy. In the Hip-Hop culture the music is the lifeblood, so the music always came first. Whatever movement Stretch started, was based off of the originators in the game! So, if you’re close minded to that aspect, then step aside
Yes but where did the term "Hip-Hop" come from? (in regards to music-- who called the music "Hip-Hop," how did they come up with it.) I know that in '82, Bam made a statement for what he was calling the Hip-Hop movement, and it was called "Planet Rock," which was also a significant record. But so how did the term "Hip-Hop" actually come about? Can't found anyone to clarify this, yet.
Katya'sThis&That The actual word was used or mimicked from the Army Hip, Hop Keith Cowboy from Grandmaster Flash furious five used to say in his rhymes. hip, hop, hip, hooop. Then it was used in they rhymes.Herc n Bam named it cuz they did ask him in an interview whats this all called he said "Hip-Hop". Its on video!
Did he just say 10 really? wow. We was doin party dances in the 70's is that hip-hop dancing to Funk n R and B? We on west coast didn't know nothin bout hip-hop til late 82. But i was apart of that party dance scene and Poppin funk. and R and B Scene. before 82 we was actually at the time transitioning r and b, funk, and new wave. To certain point i agree we didnt hear term hip-hop. til 82. I started tagging graff writing 83. I was still Poppin and continued. But i also did was we called trendy dancing (party dancing) I in "Ladies Choice"my cousin joined the "The Romeo's "L. A. west side dance group. He watched me dance as a kid came to my school n joined they group. We used to go to world on wheels together. Remember the Pozer? Skate? Robo Cop? Guess? Prep? It would be interesting to see you talking to Frosty Freeze R. I. P, or Pop Master Fable about this even Legs or Ken Swift.
Some of the comments on here seem to confuse me. Because I’m a golden era kid, I fully understand the distinction between hip hop music and the hip hop dance moves. Bboys(girls) and breakers are exactly that. Just like poppers, lockers. Party dances aren’t hip hop dancers. Look up a old school vid from the early 90’s. Hip hop/house documentary
1-So if it's a culture, wat defines someone being part of the hiphop culture. If Olivia Newton-John started smoking weed, wearing baggy pants, wears a cap backwards, wear a big chain and medallion and started going out with dr dre that change all her music to bein hiphop music cause she's part of the hiphop culture. There must be foundational aspects of the music which makes it hiphop rather than country or rock. What defines "I am music" to being Hiphop fusion. is it the fact common is in it.
Interesting I'm really stupid gonna ask some lame questions. Q 1. In this day and age what defines hiphop music?(call me old fashioned but yes Britney spears is pop) Q 2. If you do contemporary dance or ballet to "hiphop" music are you now a hiphop dancer? Q 3. If a bboy is breaking to a Salsa track (cause it typically has the same timing as hiphop music) are they breaking or doing salsa? Q 4.Wasn't buddha in the video dancing to Jazz Funk, and doing styles like Charleston and Lindy hop etc.
@hypnotic1 I'm afraid you're mistaken my friend. Look in to this mans history and his crew before making such a claim. Just as you did with the history of hip hop. If you do you will find this dance styyle came from the Hip hop movement. Just as Popping and locking came from the funk movement. This style is a product of hip hop itself. Hip hop being as you know made from the 4 elements you mentioned. Any OG's from their respected styles will vouch for this. Rock steady crew/ElectricBoogaloos etc
@sebastianrenix if you had ANY knowledge on the HISTORY of hiphop as a FREESTYLE dance...you'd know that it was i,who decided to call it HIPHOP in the 1st place....so it's not conceit,it's FACT!no one knew what to call the dance in it's infancy...& bcuz it was ONLY done to hiphop music,INSPIRED BY hiphop music,& became popular bcuz of HIPHOP music...i called it hiphop!
Hi Jennifer, I am thinking about attaching a Korean subtitle to this video and uploading it to my channel. I want to help Koreans to understand the hip hop culture better. I look forward to your response.
Not to be a critic, but i'm confused!!! Hip Hop is a culture that started in New York in the late 1960's, so for anyone to assume or say otherwise is not correct. Hip Hop is b-boying and b girl'n if you see the 1970's Soul Train trend, that is Hip Hop at his best a combination of street, social, and breakin, lockin, poppin', and boogaloo. What you are doing is called! New Jack Swing Era which started in the late 80's with Bobby Brown and Teddy Riley's music and exploded in the 90's.
aside that, it is not just because I coreograph a lot of pop music that I'm not hip hop. Its not clear to me what counts to be strictly hip hop. So to me what counts is social interaction: going to cyphers, taking classes, participating on battle contest and soever. Saying that someone is not hip hop just because he doesn't show work done to hip hop music, just don't seem fair to me
@baribc lol...what element in hiphop MAKES it hiphop?hmmm...let's see.."b-boy" what does the "b-boy" dance to?the "BREAK"..what doe the "break" primarily consist of,ie,what "MOVES" the music the most?the DRUMS!!!..also the "CULTURE" is defined by HOW it's LIVED,...not what is worn, listened to,or who your WITH!Olivia Newton John?seriously?SHE'S almost 60!!you can do better than that!
so all of you guys giving Buddah props also acknowledge that you're not a hip hop dancer. i mean.. buddah just said so himself that there are a few, like him. and I can guess none of u are him or part of mop top elite nor have been there since the beginning. unfortunately i was not even born yet. sucks for me being heavily invested into the hip hop culture where i found my dance come alive..
Look... I understand his point, but I don't some stuff that he said were fair to people. In the way he putt, I don't dance hip hop if I'm doing it to, let's say, Michael Jackson... Even if I respect the fundamentals of the dance To me this is wrong. Here is that he was thinking about people that was teachin coreography instead of STRAIGHT HIP HOP {[(DANCE)]}. Coreography done to commercial music. But the problem is that he generalized.
@baribc 1-hiphop music is defined like it's always been...BY THE CULTURE! 2-ask a ballet dancer, when they ENTER A CYPHA...you'll SEE your answer clearly! 3-if he's a bboy,he'll be BREAKING..as Salsa is a completely different style, with it's own vocab 4-what i danced to WASN'T jazz-funk lol..it's was jazz-HIPHOP fusion by Common called "I AM MUSIC"...no funk was involved!we showed the lineage of HIPHOP dance from the Charleston,& Lindy Hop on down to the CrissCross,& walk-it-out...study!

I'd love to hear what members of the Rock Steady Crew think of this?
He separated the two through definition. His style is moreover considering social/party dancing.
They will say his right cause they already said it 🤷
