Have you got a game called parodius ? It is a sidescroller shoot em up. Wacky enemies in a cartoon fashion but it was done so well. Arcade game originally. I really enjoyed that game, just to see the enemies and see what crazy thing i got to shoot next?
@@KrisVickers-wn6dd both systems have some great games. Which one holds the most nostalgia for you? Destruction Derby is great and still holds up by today's standards
I know people who collect both and because--like the PS1--there were so many games, you need a lot of shelf space too! The 360 has less games than both the PS1 and PS2 as well as overall cheaper titles (it's a generation ahead of the PS2). I see plenty of UA-camrs with full Saturn, N64, Jaguar and Dreamcast games collections as there was no where near as much.. I dunno why you guys like Destruction Derby. I loved the sequel, but was really disappointed with the first one as the control system was naff (heck, even the wheels don't turn in game) and it was advertised as two-player, but found out it was only link-up when I bought it back in '95.
@@KrisVickers-wn6dd In that case, you may as well get both the 360 and PS2 games, just buy the ones you know you'll play, especially as the consoles themselves are still affordable (and even mod-able).. Personally, the simple answer is because I can. I've been gaming since 1986, but have been PlayStation (1) obsessed since even before it launched, so to own all the games that were released is like an accomplishment, plus as I'm not into modern gaming, I'd play them more than you might expect. This is my personal view of course; others may have different reasons, but generally collecting--stamps, coins, vinyl records, china teapots, football shirts, etc--is an objective value in itself.
Old school games were so good because the devs didn’t think they were bloody movie producers. The endless cut scenes, dialogue, complicated back stories and focus on the graphics (although gorgeous) do seem to push the actual game play to the back end. Sadly. I mean, people pay games to … play games don’t they? If they want to see an acted saga they’d go to a movie. Every cut scene should include “skip” I physically want to throw the controller through the tv when forced to endure some 10 min long dribble of a cut scene. Ugggg!!!
@TalulaTuesday I agree. The classic tomb raider games for example are some of my favourite games ever, the stories weren't always great but the gameplay was and still is excellent. Simpler times, they seem so much better than a lot of today's examples.
I'm only a couple of years older than you and same things stopped me gaming as much in the PS2 era ..and I got married in 2003 (I should have stuck to gaming!). I just bought Vagrant Story off eBay, but still haven't played it as it was ruined and I'm getting loads of abuse from the seller. Next month eBay are charging a fee for buyers, so I can see why a lot of collectors use CEX.
@@boilerhousegarage yeah ebay has gone downhill lately. Vinted is equally as bad. Cex feels like the only choice sometimes. There's a lack of gaming shops around where I live
@@AnotherNormalYorkshireman There's game shops in towns about an hour each way from me, but you're not missing much as they all overprice all their stuff.. Vinted can do one, they already have the buyers' charge that eBay are adopting.
Ha, Ape Escape touting on the box that "you NEED a Dualshock, you CANNOT play without two thumbsticks!" Then later the PSP, with its single analog nub, got an Ape Escape game that worked fine... Sony always knew how to sell peripherals.
@JopieHaargel personally I'm glad they did, as that controller is pretty much the standard for most these days. Although I never really got that controller that you could twist to turn corners in games. Negcon? I think it's called that.
@@AnotherNormalYorkshireman Yes! I remember that thing from magazine ads. If memory serves, it was heavily marketed for use with Ridge Racer as it was a Namco product, in the same line as their GunCon. It always looked kind of cool to younger me, but I have never actually used it.
@JopieHaargel yeah your right, there was one with a little wheel in the middle too. I forget the name of that. I honestly like the original analogue controller before it became the dualshock. It was bigger and had indented thumb sticks.
No need to justify the PS1 collecting, its a juggernaut of a system for a 32 bit machine. If you like Rollcage have you tried GRIP on ps4/xbox one? Its not the best but it scratches that itch. Still need to play the breath of fire series, got a lot on the shelf but they have sat there for too many years. Great video and good luck with the collection
@BawhawhawYT I had some comments about why and to just emulate so I wanted to address that in some way. Yeah I've actually got grip, it's alright but it just doesn't hit like the rollcage games for some reason. Maybe the nostalgia. I got another pickups video coming soon. Thank you for watching dude 😀

When did you start collecting?? Edit: You're 41?? Crikey mate, wish I looked half as good as you!! 😂 I'm 43... Look shocking... And feel shocking😢🤣
@UA-cam-Grifter yep I'm 41. I may not look it but i feel it. I started collecting properly about a year ago. I had a fair few games before hand though.
At least you didn't have a manual that had been used to make roaches like my bloody Shinobido CeX pickup. Wait for tonight, too - A live Vinted purchase where someone has wrapped it in a Primark bag with no protection.
@FizzWizard I have and recently played played parasite eve 2. Unfortunately the uk never got parasite eve 1, but it is on my list of games to get that never released here. I'm eager to play it.
I also collect ps1 mate nice to see a like minded individual do you own misadventures of tron bonne or castlevania symphony of the night? And agree with your opinion on re2 beung best of the three and bet you cant guess my favourite game of all time? Haha
@TheThirdEnergy dino crisis? If so, great choice. I have castlevania, but not tron bonne yet as I only buy my games complete and I keep finding it with the manual missing. My first video is the one where I get symphony of the night
I think eBay is a lot better than CEX because they always put ugly hard to remove stickers all over their stuff to damage it so it can't be resold for as much. Overall they are the biggest destroyer of games in the UK. Slowly the more games that come to them the more "used" they will become from their handling. But on eBay it's a much better economy because it also means people can trade games with money they get on sales. I basically played my whole run of Nintendo Switch for 75% discount because I bought physicals then sold them. I sold my entire gaming collection on eBay last year, over 25 years of stuff from loads of platforms, I am glad they are more likely to be in good homes than now sticky and scratched from being at CEX at a rip off price.
@gamingeffectslibrary yeah I have to say I hate those stickers cex use. They use 2 and they're just pointless. 1 small low tack sticker with the price is all they need.
@@AnotherNormalYorkshireman They do it on purpose to devalue their stock, they don't want people trading it back for the same price they gave to someone else, so they do stuff like that so each time it's a little more worn down. Whilst on eBay I can sell my games for the same price CEX do going straight to where they deserve instead of them acting as a middle man. I still look for the odd DVD and stuff in there though.
@gamingeffectslibrary i only really trade dvd boxsets and the odd game there. I mostly sell on ebay or vinted, but I don't really sell much. I'm too much of a hoarder. I also trade games with other people on here as a few are going for full sets on other systems, so we tend to do a bit of swapping.
WOW I never knew so many ps1 games existed i own 34 ps1 games.Don’t explain it,whatever makes you happy ❤I nearly didn’t get ps1 as i wanted a n64 (as 8 year old me was raised on gameboy and snes😊)but my mum said i had to share it with my dad so we got ps1 in the end looking back best choice i made as i think most of the n64 games would have given me motion sickness and they look pretty bad graphics compared to ps1 😂
@louisebarker3731 yeah i had an n64 for a while back then, only for goldeneye though. Other than that I've been really into the ps1 ever since. I have a little under 800 games currently and there's around 1420 of them in total. Thank you for watching
Wasnt until the ps4 I discovered jrpgs other than final fantasy, thought Id completed my ps1 re-collection, think ive decided 1 day id like to play some of the more niche jrpgs but they all seem to be on the pricier side
@ayoitzfuzzlife7102 breath of fire 3 & 4, wild arms and vagrant story are all great rpgs that don't cost as much as some others. Suikoden is expensive though. Grandia was only £25.
@NotMoreGames I have yes, there's quite a few games I want to get that the uk never got. Parasite eve, chrono cross, lunar and final fantasy tactics are a few examples.
@onebomb8528 same here, I just can't bring myself to play 4 remake. I liked the original back in the day but haven't played it for many years, I think some games are best left to memory.
Argh... I can never get over how bad that PEGI stamp makes PAL boxart and disc art look. Its never consistent, the colors keep changing, and it just looks like a stain on the whole thing..... Ill never get over that. Zeus bless Ameican box art. Praise the ESRB for a clean consistent look. I think, other than earlier days frame rates on 50hz PAL vs 60hz American TVs, I think thats another reason US games are sought out more than PAL. Tornado Outbreak, for example, is a game recently that just was re-discovered and going for $120 used without a manual and $200 sealed on PS3. You wont be able to snag an US copy in good shape, theyre gone faster than you can react but PAL sellers have a really hard time selling PAL versions, unless the game was a PAL only game, and thats even with no region lock. I dont envy yalls box art, those PEGI stamps, yeah, Ill never be able to get over those
@GMMXX80 I always liked the American games spines, on ps2 for example the front art wrapped around the side. Pal games had white spines with the same generic fonts. I've never heard of tornado outbreak. Might be worth me looking into it.
@@AnotherNormalYorkshiremanIt's expensive. I do, actually, like y'all's Dreamcast jewel cases though. Those are cool. And sometimes y'all got better Collectors Edition than the States got
@GMMXX80 I don't think I've seen the dreamcast cases from the states. I know the ps1 cases over there are wildly different too. I honestly didn't know special editions were different over there, im going to have to do some Web browsing to have a look at these differences.
The PAL games often got different rating logos from all the different organisations in each country they were released in. Some Australian (also PAL for some reason) PS1 games have a "G" rating sticker stuck over the top of nice artwork. Although I much prefer the American PS2 game spines, the US PS1 standard jewel cases look a bit naff and I think the white on black thick case suited the PS1 aesthetic better, especially how the early PlayStation boxes and peripherals were mostly black with white test on the front--but with yellow sides! 😵💫
@steve5123456789 yeah I never quite understood why that happened back then. There are a few that the US didn't get too. I'm definitely going to be getting some US titles at some point.

@ Hell yeah don’t fook around get them ordered, its different where you live and how you collect as for me its the hunt and the thrill What you moving to after ps1 ?
@Gold2thGaming yeah there's not enough places to hunt down here, if I want to go on proper hunts I have to drive for hours just to check if places are good or not. Thank you for watching, there's more to come soon.
@AnotherNormalYorkshireman Cool 😎 I'll keep watching & hopefully you will reach your goal 👍 Yeah I'm shocked by some of the prices now & the mint stuff to(+ RE2 is an epic game to) + I will look into the mod chip stuff(not to play pirate stuff tho :D I always buy original stuff) 👍
@Carl-G as far a i remember, the mod chip bypasses the region lock on pal systems. Cheap and easy to do if too if your confident with a soldering iron.
I'm hoping to complete or at least get most of the collection by this time next year. That will be a challenge though
@@AnotherNormalYorkshireman Cool 😎 I'll keep watching & see how it goes 👍
Luckily those two Suikoden games are now on sale for pre order remastered on Switch and playstation, xbox
@goodall1bay definitely the cheaper and most accessible way to play them. Thank you for watching
hi new on here. destruction derby what a game . youve blown your radiator
@jadeleavesley it's one of my all time favourite games. Thank you for watching
Hey man, just getting into these. nice one! I just wanted to say though, and I'm sure I'll be corrected, but there's a super high-pitched ringing on some of the videos and not on others. I'm wearing headphones, not sure if anyone else can hear it? but it makes it slightly hard to watch. might be a mic thing, or my end only. Just wanted to mention it.
you can hear it on 'An introduction to my awkward self, my ps1 collection so far and a few words to other channels.'
@Okton3 I think it's something to do with a setting that i had on my phone. If that's gone on my most recent video, then I believe I fixed it.
Sorry about that, I just use the forward facing camera on my phone then upload. No edits or mic.
If you get chance to watch my newest video, please let me know if it's still there or not. Again I'm sorry if it's something I did. Thank you for watching.
nice collection 👍
@@mflexx3280 thank you, and thank you for watching. There's more to come
Have you got a game called parodius ? It is a sidescroller shoot em up. Wacky enemies in a cartoon fashion but it was done so well. Arcade game originally. I really enjoyed that game, just to see the enemies and see what crazy thing i got to shoot next?
@invasionprince not yet i don't. It's on my short list of games to get asap though. I think I had it back in the day, but I wasn't very good at it.
Interesting. I can't decide which console to collect for. I keep switching between 360 and PS2.
My mate raves about destruction derby aswell.
@boilerhousegarage and wii u. That system only had about 200 games
@@boilerhousegarage I don't really see the point collecting full system releases. You're collecting games you'll never play. Why?
I remember Ape Escape was released in 1998
@@a.fabrizio8638 it's such a great game, I was playing quite a bit a couple of days ago. It's quite challenging too
I paid £20 brand new for that tomb raider on PS5 from smiths toys, watch CEX and their prices.
@Electrotat I got it new at launch from an eBay shop, I forget which one. I haven't seen cex price on this tbh
@boilerhousegarage yeah it's not good is it, actual decent places to buy retro is getting smaller all the time
Ha, Ape Escape touting on the box that "you NEED a Dualshock, you CANNOT play without two thumbsticks!" Then later the PSP, with its single analog nub, got an Ape Escape game that worked fine...
I've never played suikoden but I have pre ordered the remaster or 1 and 2 on ps5, so will play them when they are released.
@PSNVenOmZ I highly recommend them. Number 2 is one of my all time favourite games.
Thank you for watching
@AnotherNormalYorkshireman yeah I've heard a lot of good things about them, so I can't wait to give them ago. You're welcome.
@PSNVenOmZ 4 and 5 on ps2 were great too. I never played 3 as I believe it never got a release in the uk
@AnotherNormalYorkshireman ok cool, I might have to pick them up too then if they are not too expensive.
Loaded ,Overboard, Small soldiers❤Im playing Simpsons wrestling with my kid at the moment. Bugs bunny lost in time is in the post.
@kp17841 some excellent games. Speed freaks is a great kart racer to play with the kids, my oldest used to love it.
😮
You've basically got all of the genuine classics there!!
Everyone of them is absolutely outstanding!! ❤
Nothing to do with price or rarity, just genuinely brilliant games!!
@@donaldmackerel ooh I do love a no protection vinted purchase. Haha.
@AnotherNormalYorkshireman £68. Apparently, that's not enough to warrant a bit of bubble wrap.
@donaldmackerel that's an addition £22, didn't you know this by now? 🤣🤣🤣
@AnotherNormalYorkshireman wait til you see what ansolute crap I bought
@donaldmackerel I'm keen to see dude. When I look at your roached manual, I'm unsure if that's better or worse than the dog jizzy one I received.
Have you played Parasite Eve 1 & 2 on the ps1? Those are both amazing.
Awesome video mate where in the uk are you from?
Hahaha just seen that ur username is 'AnotherNormalYorkshireman' haha my bad, cheers from Todmorden :)
@DPRSonics south Yorkshire to be precise. Thank you for watching 👌
Have you thought about picking up any of Japanese or USA exclusives- there are plenty of great games that we never saw.
@NotMoreGames I have yes, there's quite a few games I want to get that the uk never got. Parasite eve, chrono cross, lunar and final fantasy tactics are a few examples.
Only remake worth playing is res evil 1 on the GameCube, they added the right amount of things in the story for me.
@onebomb8528 I agree. I really like that one but I always seem to forget about it. I guess that's just due to how much hype 2 and 3 got.
@ Probably dude.
@onebomb8528 3 was definitely the worst remake, they cut loads of content compared to the original. Shame really
@ Yeah I agree , didn’t care for 2 and 3 remake myself. I haven’t played 4 remake yet but I’d rather play the originals all day long.
Get some US ps1 exclusive games.
@steve5123456789 I do plan to to get some at some point. Chrono cross and final fantasy tactics are just 2 that are on my list. 👌
@@AnotherNormalYorkshireman Crazy how much we didn't get.

@Gold2thGaming yeah there's not enough places to hunt down here, if I want to go on proper hunts I have to drive for hours just to check if places are good or not.
Yeah I'm gonna try and get my order placed tonight and hopefully get them for the next video.
I might go for ps3 once I complete the ps1, other than that I'm not really thinking about other systems right now.
@ Sounds like a sexy plan to me 👌
@Gold2thGaming I've just seen on doorways site that they have tombi 2 in stock. Might order that, it's gotta be better than that crap I got from cex.
