It's not getting you paid more, it's just maximizing your dollars earned per hour which could free you up to make more money doing other jobs or enjoy your free time more.
This was awesome! I haven't yet done a studio session quite like this so it's a really interesting look at it. Thanks for the tips! Playing sounded great, ofc.
Hey Tim! Great stuff man!! Really like this type of videos! If the producer made you listen to the song only once, are you allowed to ask to listen to it again?
"only once" is not a rule set in stone. I would say most songs get played once, and then people can ask questions like, "can you play the bridge again so I can hear that walkdown again." It is always "ok" to ask the producer to hear it again, it is just better if you don't. That's the way I look at it. I want to be as quick and efficient as I possibly can, so if I can hear it all in one play than all the better.
This is still my favorite video of yours. This kind of behind the scenes look, especially the studio time, is super interesting. I love seeing this stuff!
Glad you dig it! This is the stuff I honestly like making the most. But it is hard to get traction on the internet for it (at least for me it is haha).
Ahhhh seeing some of the roads you were driving down has me all nostalgic. Awesome stuff in this vid! When do we get to find out who you recorded this session for?
Great video, Tim!! I really enjoyed checking this out as this is something I’m working on improving within my own career. Totally agree about the reading music thing. I think it’s a very valuable skill to have! I actually did a video on my channel talking about whether reading matters or not. I would love to get your feedback on it if you wouldn’t mind! & Though it may not be totally drum related, I would love to see a video breaking down the Nashville number system and how you choose what to play within those numbers/ chord progressions. Also seeing how you did a listen through and wrote out the chart like you did, it would be interesting to see first hand. Anyways thanks for reading this and for putting out such valuable content as always! Cheers!
I don't really have a favorite crash. I use a lot of rides as crashes. The one I own and use most often that is an actual crash is an 18" HHX-Treme Crash.
I always chart a song and then can usually get a good take on either no. 1 or 2. So much easier!

I hear ya. I’m thinking of it as an “hourly rate”. The fewer hours you spend, the more you are paid per hour. Thus - you get paid more.

Hey Michael! Thanks so much man. It was a fun session to be a part of. Two days at Blackbird is a step up from my home studio!
Thanks for great video 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Dario!
Solid playing.

Really enjoyed this video, Tim. Especially seeing the chart as you played through.
Thanks so much Buck! If you have other suggestions like this let me know, I'd love to try and provide more stuff like this.

Room mics only for the toms? Couldn't see any 57s
There are tom mics, just can't see them. Honestly, don't ever remember what we used! haha
Tim Buell some engineers get all crazy and experiment with room mics only. Drives me batty.

When we do our UA-cam collaboration! haha.
Tim Buell Deal. I can’t wait!
What kit did you end up using there?
Hey Joel! I ended up playing a Craviotto drum set. It sounded amazing. haha.
Wise words! Excellent video!
Glad you got something out of it Sarek!

Which is favorite crash? Very cool! Drums sound great in there 👌🏽🎶🥁
