Chords on bass are definitely used. A lot of times those chords are arpeggiated but bass chords do happen. In fact that’s one of my favorite things about that is when you know guitar chords they translate pretty well to bass which helped me pick up bass very quickly. Plus I guess it could also depend on the style of music too. Some genres might use chords while others don’t
