    It is over 50 MILLION years old, and it is definitely not a tree! In the Eocene (50M years ago) the surrounding landmass was much higher but eroded away, that's why you don't see the volcano. People in these comments are so stupid LOL. I bet they're all 'murican.

    I understand why people want to think of this as a giant petrified tree. I saw the same thing when i first saw it. You see a petrified tree because that is the thing in your previous experience that you can relate to the shape and those long straight markings on the sides. But a geologist sees columnar jointing. There are examples of it all over the world. The devil's tower is so striking because of its size and the way it stands alone. This is the last remains of a large ancient volcano. The igneous rock that cooled into basalt, developed cracks on the surface, as it cooled. It cooled largely from top to bottom and the fine cracks ran down the column of igneous rock. The volcanic core is much harder than the surrounding mountains, harder than the mountain it created. Everything else eroded over many millions of years ago.
    No tree has ever existed that was that large. Try to imagine the height and breadth of a tree that left such a stup. Then give a small thought to gravity and the limits it puts on living things.
    It is fun speculation but the process that created Devil's Tower is very well understood and there many examples of such columnar jointing, around the globe. That is the process that created the Giants Cause Way in Northern Ireland.
    Search "columnar jointing" and you will find pics of a number of places that have a very similar look. This is just a particularly spectacular example.

    Look in the book of Enoc and search the word "trees", he said there were 14 of them and they were ancient even to Enoc the grandfather of Noah! In another verse he says the fallen angels themselves cut them down, they must have been very special to God and us. Now this petrified stump of one of those glorious trees is mocked by man and named after the very same creature that ordered it's destruction.

  • @bootdude7527

    To those that say its a tree consider this. If it in fact was a tree that fell down I mean lets be serious a tree that size isn't going to fall without leting it being known that it fell. Wouldn't there be a geological scar in the surrounding area of where the tree fell? Even then where is the rest of this so called tree? Where are the roots? A tree of that size must of had some huge ass roots. Speaking of roots do you know how much rain that tree would've needed to survive?!?! Not to mention, where is the trunk there should be some remains of it and or it should petrified right next to it, You can't say its buried under the earth otherwise that stump should also be underground. The only fact you have about it being a tree is by observation not by true studying.

      Senor, First off, kinda in the middle on this one, but I've already seen all of the explanations about magma time and water! and if you notice when something like this is brought up that's the first thing that's said, "magma, water and time. They know about as much as we do. I still wonder if that is not even what it appears, could be an ancient building or something ah? Lol. very amazing, no matter what it is, or how it became of.😎⛪

      @Peace & Serenity Shoot, nobody can prove either way on this one, I like to think it was a tree!! that would have been awesome!! can you actually imagine how it would look, and how big it would be?😎⛪

    • @S.Ladd67
      @S.Ladd67 5 років тому

      @@sonomishen5451 No, what is your point, because the guy instructing this about magma sounds like a guy out of his own thoughts, magma can't make a perfect hexagonal shape, across a perfectly flat surface. Just a bunch mumbo jumbo. Nobody really knows, sure isn't shaped like a mountain that's for sure, and If it was flowing lava, there would be more like it for miles. But there's not. Look across the world, even were no volcanic actions are, and there's a lot of these shapes, as if cut down, also there's jagged edge so called hills that they say are brocken tree's. See we can't understand, because we didn't live in those times. Those aren't just normal mountains!!! give me a break! 😎⛪

      Not ALL lava cools into HEXAGONAL columns. However, "Basaltic lava" does. And many millions of years later, the surrounding sedimentary material is eroded away, revealing the harder Basalt. Just as I commented here earlier, the chief influencer of all this is "erosion" over time. These remains Are Not tree stumps, and wood fibers can be blown from other locations by the wind. And lastly, it it GRAVITY that determines size and shape of things.

      the devils tower shows me that the holy bible is true. look up what the holy bible says in daniel 4:11. the giants are described in genesis 6:4 and numbers 13:33. there is no way people our size could make ancient structures like the way we were tought in school. how could a 90 ton stone be moved by a person our size? why were door ways to ancient structures so high? they were up to 50+ feet high or higher. I believe every verse in the bible to be true and the truth can be found by using common sense and observation. evolution is wrong in every way and does not even mention giants or giant tress.evolutionist are quick to say god doesn't exist though.

    Imagine thinking that is a tree, what type of religion turned you guys into sheep? Denying all science and spouting that it was god's work. A tree of that size is physically impossible. A tree that grew that big could not sustain itself with water and it would grow right into the atmosphere and die. When the tree fell over it would not look like mountains, it would look like a huge log. There are also no roots, which there should be but somehow disappeared. How many of you guys are so simple-minded?
