Ok, I've done a ton of pixinsight tutorials over the past few months, and I'm always learning something new with each one. This was a fantastic tutorial, and I wish it was the first one I had ever done. Your tutorials are always must sees for me, you've just got a great instructor voice.
Absolutely amazing tutorial, learned so much! The first time I have processed an image I would be happy to show to friends... Now to capture some better images!
Excellent video. I’ve watched *a lot* of PixInsight beginner tutorials and this was the best one for me. This is the one I’ll be watching over and over this weekend as I process images.
Perfect video Walt. I’ve been learning PI and your workflow is so easy to follow and it’s great that you provide the processes. I request more PI videos. It seems everyone is migrating to this great tool and now is the time to start learning it
Dear Walt, Thank you very much!!! This is a great video! For me you are a wizard and you helped me so much to understand how is the PixInsight workflow!!!
Fantastic conclusion for a beginner like me, superb done and all needed explanation. Thanks a million for your great work. You made my day! Salute from Austria
you did such a great job and I really appreciate you for putting such an effort to deliver these informations in a perfect and an easy way. Thank you so much.
This video is amazing. I used PixInsight for the first time and was to do a decent editing using your tutorial! The only issue I faced is about the EZ Suite unavailability. I found an alternative - GHS stretch. Thanks a lot for the tutorial :)
I hate how well the RC astro apps worked on my image because now I need to consider If I want to purchase the suite or not. Great tutorial and thank you for providing the icons. It was very helpful in keeping only the required processes on the workspace.
Awesome video! I have all the processing tools. I just needed to put everything together and your video is just the ticket! I've learned a lot about Astrophotography in the past 2 years via UA-cam. And, very often, your channel is one of my favorite go to's. Your Rosette imaging process paralleled my own for the North America Nebula: 3 hours imaging time, Canon EOS Rebel T4i modified DSLR and Optolong L-enhance filter. Because of this imaging similarity, I followed your process and now have an pretty good finished NA Nebula image as a result. You explain in plain English and give reasons for what you do. Pixinsight is a great program, but, really daunting with one hellacious learning curve. Your instruction is easy to follow and helped me build some processing confidence. Please, make more of these PI videos.
Hi Walt, Super helpful video on Pixinsight. I am a couple of years into the hobby and only semi-proficient in PS. I am thinking I need to get up to speed with PI to advance on to narrowband imaging from Bortle 9 Chicago. Thanks again. Mike
Howdy. Just starting out with PI and have been watching a lot of YT videos on how to start out. I must say I really like your style, your comfortable speed, and most importantly you explain why you are doing things. You deserve a pat on the back. The one thing that kills me is when I see folks hit the square (along the bottom) to apply a process yet at other times they will drag and drop the half triangle onto the image to apply the process. At times both are available but no reason is ever given why one was used over the other. Anyway, TU very much, keep up the excellent work.
The triangle is probably most useful if you want to apply something to multiple images. It's also good for dragging your settings onto the workspace to create a processing icon with the settings your just made. I hope that made sense! 🤣
Hi Walt, Always enjoy your videos, but I also want to add one tip that Adam Block shared about 3 weeks ago as a thank you to the UA-cam astro community. In ua-cam.com/video/7ldbGxFi-OM/v-deo.html he describes using Star Exterminator *before* applying Dynamic Background Extraction. This creates a starless field that greatly facillates the placement of DBE regions of interest without having to avoid star clutter. Do this, run DBE on the 'clean' field, and then add back the stars and keep moving along, just faster and more accurately...
@@deltaastrophotography It has helped me more than anything to be honest. I keep this one handy with each picture I process. Any new processing I learn, I just add to this one. I had Pixlnsight for months but was too intimidated to try it till I watched this. I cant thank you enough!
Nice job on this, Walt. Thanks! I've been learning PI during the never-ending clouds this winter. I know it's not a beginner's tool and I don't know if you've already tried it, but the Generalize Hyperbolic Stretch tool is pretty awesome. Like the regular stretch on steroids! (I don't know how to use it yet, I just tried it a couple of times.) This was a great intro to a PI workflow.
This is my go to video. I keep coming back to it. Unrelated question Walt: How do I combine two images of Rosette taken several day apart using PixInsight?
I need to make a new one. The latest update has removed a few features such as Easy Soft Stretch. But yeah I thought it would be harder than it is. I edit almost exclusively in pixinsight now.
@deltaastrophotography this is very good to hear. Seems blur exterminator is the missing link for me besides the one stop with pixinsight. Ive been using siril and photoshopprimarily. My pictures have been decent, but i think this will solve some issues. Im glad i saw this video
Hello awesome video quick question - following along with your tutorial on the scripts there is no ez processing suite script as the site is down is this going to cause issues such as EZ soft stretch is no longer able to get for new users like me ? also when loading your icons i get a warning about parsing instance element unknown process i will point out im using trial license on the rc scripts @delta astrophotography
Great video, just the right speed for me since I am truly just getting started with PI. It appears now that EZ Processing Suite is no longer available, can you recommend something else?
Hi Walt thanks for making this tutorial it was nice and easy to follow , just wondering if you could do the same kind of thing for the free software Siril ?
Hi Walt, what a great video! I don't do any deep space photography, only Milky Way. Would this process work for that as well (using Photoshop to combine foreground and sky)?
For my personal photos that don't go up on UA-cam I use Pixinsight almost exclusively for my Milky Way backgrounds. It does a great job! It's just way more streamlined for astrophotography than Photoshop
Greetings Walt. Love the site and always learning something from you and tickled with the humour. A bit off topic, but PixInsight far beyond my means , at present. Please give me your thoughts on Backyard EOS. Worth the efoort or too old to be viable? Thank you for your time, James.
I love Backyard EOS! I still use it from time to time. If you want to control your mount and accessories then I would probably go for APT or NINA. But if you are just controlling your camera, you can't go wrong with Backyard EOS.
Hi Walt, Loved the video! I'm a beginner with Pixinsight and loved this tutorial. I also have Photoshop and Im wondering what things you prefer to do in each different software program or is it just a personal preference for experienced users?
I try to do most of my workflow in Pixinsight these days. When I need to correct or enhance a very specific area of the photo, then I switch to Photoshop for it's masking abilities.
I've enjoyed your last couple of videos, particularly the Rosette Nebula in PS. Are you still planning on doing a moon processing video? Or did I miss it?
I'm really sorry I didn't make the moon processing video. Some unpleasant things happened in my life after that last Moon video and I just had to take a month off. All is well now and I will get back to making that moon processing video at some point.
I've been thinking about that. There are a lot of things Pixinsight can do that Photoshop can't without paid plugins or using free software like Siril. But at the same time Pixinsight sucks when it comes to masking. There is so much to consider. Would it be fair if I did the comparison using the paid plugins in Photoshop?
@@deltaastrophotography pixinsight vs Photoshop with gradient xterminator only..i feel like this paid plugin is a must for all types of astrophotography

Outstanding job. I’ve had Pixinsight for many years and i love how the developer community have rallied to provide newer and more effective tools.
Excellent video. I’ve watched *a lot* of PixInsight beginner tutorials and this was the best one for me. This is the one I’ll be watching over and over this weekend as I process images.
Wow! Much clearer and more enjoyable than most PixInsight tutorials. I might actually use it now. Thanks!

Walt: How come you drag the triangle to the image to apply a process when you an click the square to apply the process?
Just because I like to. It doesn't really matter. The triangle is probably best when you want to quickly apply one process to multiple photos.
what's the price of all those addons?
My BlurXterminator keeps giving an error 😡🤔
i keep getting an "unknown process" error when loading your RC icon package: "unknown process: StarNet"
