I stumbled across this PSR-E453 review and I'm glad I did. I was thinking of buying the Casio CTK7200 but after I saw your review and demo, I went and bought one, purely because of the quality of sounds and the mini live synth knobs. I used pitch bend a lot on my old Roland GW8 and this sounded great. Not sure if it has a modulation switch like the CTK7200 though. Thanks for a great demo, it was your demo that convinced me to buy one from Amazon. And yes, I also play electric Violin, in which i should be able to plug-in using the aux in socket :-)
I am a first timer on keyboards could you do a seminar on line featuring the PSRE453 and all the functions to get a first timer started it would be highly appreciated
Hi, if you want to hold an arpeggio, you can tweak the settings to hold the arpeggios with the sustain pedal instead of actionning the keys with your foot. Cheers.
Thanks for the comprehensive review I'm a very old rock drummer, amatuer guitar player and can bang out some (very few) piano chords. One grandkid has just started guitar lessons and shows real promise, so I'd like to get into the home studio recording thing...who knows where it will lead. I haven't decided on a stand alone recorder or computer based DAW. That will come later but I'd like to add a keyboard now. After lots of snooping around on this interweb thing, I had decided on the Yamaha PSR-EW400 for all of the sounds and features but didn't see a need for 76 keys. I was about to 'pop' for that model but after snooping around at the Yamaha site I discovered the Yamaha PSR-E453 with 61 keys. Both keyboards seem to have the same features, capabilities and specs with the only difference being the number of keys. Am I missing anything and what are the pros and cons of 61 keys versus 76? Thanks
hello please, kindly how can I play back instrumental that I saved on USB stick? like mid on my flash can play on the keyboard I tried to find I don't know what to do,
I finally bought one Xmas eve. traded in my pse e403 which had an annoying high pitched processing sound when plugged into an amplifier. since I sold my MO 6 last spring needed a gig worthy board. will test it live on new years eve next weekend. it has some white noise on the output but only requires minimum use of a noise gate. the rotary is alright by itself however my boss me80 provides the programmable efx for me including rotary. thanks for your reviews and wish me luck next weekend.
Hey man let us know how it goes - that's interesting and a little concerning about the background noise, I always thought it was totally clean. Anyway, thanks for watching Gearfacts!
Got to play a little over an hour. Sounded excellent going into boss ME 80 into the pa. Set up registrations with only the voices playing to avoid hitting buttons and having something play. Put split point at the highest key so hitting split instantly puts a different voice or the same one and octave lower. Definitely a keeper. Thanks again for your reviews.
Wait, there's more. Online or UA-cam look up make a did stereo mixer cable. Quarter inch mono plug on one end and one eighth inch stereo plug on the other. A resistor in line on one channel wire prevents phase cancelation. Means stereo out from headphone jack of keyboard into mono jack of amp will play both stereo sides with no center cancellation or cokes wah aound. Fixes the face of these things having no line output for an amp. You could use a mono plug but only get one side that way.
Stereo to mono convertor the right way to do it in on tales from the secret lab. I made a couple very easily. Mono quarter inch plug, couple 10k resistors, stereo minI plug on the other end. That plugs into a quarter inch stereo plug adaptor for the headphones out. The stereo mini jack can plug into your phone or mp3 player and the other end to an amp. Great fun.
hi....i bought Yamaha PSR-E453 and want ask one question...How the accompaniment will play? I selected style and put the ACMP button ON and then pushed the start button... The play back music is not playing... Is it having some defect or I am doing something wrong?
Pressing the start button just starts the drums, you have to play a key in the lower area of the keyboard to start the accompaniment sounds. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Do you know when you play in split voice.. example Left Strings,, and Right side Piano .. how can i transpose only strings left side??? hope you can help me
When I press the Fill-In button on my Yamaha E453 Keyboard it changes rhythm from A to B and vise versa. How can I keep the same rhythm A while pressing Fill-In?
Hi there, when you activate a fill-in you can immediately press the pattern you want it to return to. It'll play the fill and remember what you've pressed and return there. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
ajcab819 no I don't think that will work. I believe that any conversion from USB to midi requires a computer. But I'm open to correction, do any other viewers have any thoughts about this question?
I don't think there's a pedal-free sustain function as such (like there is in equivalent Casio keyboards) so you might just have to rely on the reverb effect, accessed by repeatedly pressing the function key. Hope that helps. If I discover anything else I'll let you know. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
+Landy Water Hi Landy, I don't think it has a pedal-free sustain option. You could try adding reverb by repeatedly pressing the function key. It's not the same as sustain but it might help. I'll check into it and if I discover any other options I'll let you know. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
I bought 4 months ago it is great keyboard but I couldn't play our tradetional music with this piano. Becouse we use different beat so can anyone help me to fix that. problem.
pls tell how to record ur performance to ur pc or mobile in some playable format.. is it possible thru iphone/ipod thru app my music recorder ??. i haven't used it though.. pls suggest the easiest way to record the performance
Not really. Some of them have similar sounds but there's nothing as far as I know that's directly in competition or overly similar. I'm open to be corrected on that by other readers, of course :)
There one thing why i prefer this over casio wk ctk is yamaha new update keyboard has gu zheng. Casio gu zheng sound cheap but in the yamaha it sound like it come from chinesw movies
Hi thanks for this amazing review I watched your other vid on things you didn't like and it seems worth buying it. If you don't mind got 3 questions. 1. Do you think it's a good thing for a beginner ? 2. Is it easy to learn the whole looping and effects things ? 3. Does it have any ambient sounds ?
Good on you for being a well-informed buyer! Yes I think it's a good beginner's keyboard - you could go lower and simpler, but it depends on what kind of person the beginner is (confident/cautious/ambitious etc). The looping and effects thing is simple when you know the keys to press to set it up. Some keys require a LONG press to get certain functions. And finally, yes it's got lots of ambient sounds and you can always synthesize your own. Thanks for watching Gearfacts, please share with your friends :)
Not for a beginner. All of the 88 key models I've seen have weighted keys. If you want a bit more space though, I'm pretty sure the PSR-EW400 has 76 keys. Apart from that it's almost the same as the PSR-E453.
You have to turn the Accompaniment button off. I think it's located bear the start button and it might be abbreviated to "ACC ON/OFF" or something like that. hope that helps. To be honest, and despite all the vids I've made about this board, I've never used it's internal recording >_>
Thanks for your reply, do you know if the Casio MZ-X series will allow you to make your own? I think I spotted one arpeggio being altered on one of the youtube videos but I can't be sure
Great video! With the USB-out, can I connect it to my laptop and with recording software like Audacity, can it output into that program for recording to the laptop?
ANURANJAN .A They are totally different machines. If you want an all-in-one thing with onboard sounds and speakers then go for the Yamaha. If you are happy to rely on a computer to provide the sounds and you've got an external set of speakers then the notation might be better. Also, novation gear is really complicated to operate when compared with Yamaha.
Sorry about the late reply - the only way to make beats is to manually record them which is not that difficult, it's just not infinite. You can't create a 'style' loop or anything like that.
question, does the rotary dsp speed sound reasonable when adjusting it with the assignable knobs? that is really the only reason I would upgrade from my psr e 403 to this model. the guitar shop doesn't have an out of box unit for me to test yet. Currently use a boss me80 for rotary speed rates from the e 403. thanks.
pirinst had detailed go on the rotary effect last night. Sounds really good on organ of course, and also on long synth sweeps. It adds a really nice octave-up gleam to the sound. Nice and creamy. Can't be assigned to foot pedal sadly - control knobs only. Great effect.
Look to me like the only difference is that the EW has louder speakers. If that's an important factor for you then it might be worth spending a little extra. For me, the PSR-E speakers are already on the louder side for a home keyboard. You might need a bit more volume for playing with a drummer or a guitar player who likes to push it :) Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
Hi man thanks,so you mean the sounds, esp the piano are almost identical?the 76 keys are very enticing and if the sound is almost the same,i would rather go for EW400...
Gearfacts bro I am going to purchase keyboard but am bit confused between yamha psr453 and roland ex20 Which one I should purchse plz suggest me Especilally for fl
Dear Manufacturers of Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Korg, M-AUDIO, Novation keylaunch Keyboard Engineers, I humbly request you all, Either your Keyboards are good quality or bad quality, First you modify and add 8 Tone Registration banks buttons towards right side of the keyboard as it is in PSR 1100 & PSR 2100, which will be more convenient to operate immediately the tones one after the other during live programs Or for Studio Recordings. But where as I have come across most of the Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Korg keyboards, which is most inconvenient to operate the tone banks, which is in Calculator type, I deeply hesitate this type of worst egineering plan, Don't say that this type of engineering plan is impossible in this modern technology. Everything is possible but except giving life to human body. Dear Amazon, Flipkart, or any other sellers, I kindly request you to intimate this issue to the keyboard manufacture, I am writing this review on behalf of all Keyboard players, Thanks & Regards , Elkana David, KGF.
I think it has plenty of good sounds for the professional player. There is a stigma associated with keyboards that have speakers, pro players tend to disrespect them. It all comes down to how well you use the instrument, I think :)
This will be my Christmas present
Elka Synthex woohoo yes! Thanks for watching Gearfacts!
@Gearfacts : Do this board have a sequencer ?☺

There is so much to discover in this board! I still haven't come up with that styles video I promised you but it IS coming :) GF
Gearfacts Looking forward to it 😎
Finally made that video: ua-cam.com/video/_2QBi-rStEk/v-deo.html

Totally :) GF

Hello, cây đàn này giá bao nhiêu vậy bạn
Does it has sustain button?
If it has, how do we activate it?
I think sustain only works with a connected sustain pedal in the rear socket, but I'm open to be corrected on that. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)

I bought 4 months ago it is great keyboard but I couldn't play our tradetional music with this piano. Becouse we use different beat so can anyone help me to fix that. problem.
Have you tried choosing different rhythms from the rhythm list?
Yes i tried all but there is no rythm like what I want to play. Sorry for my English bro.
pls tell how to record ur performance to ur pc or mobile in some playable format.. is it possible thru iphone/ipod thru app my music recorder ??.
i haven't used it though.. pls suggest the easiest way to record the performance
Does Yahama make any keyboards that mimic the mellotron?
Not really. Some of them have similar sounds but there's nothing as far as I know that's directly in competition or overly similar. I'm open to be corrected on that by other readers, of course :)
ok, thnx!
There one thing why i prefer this over casio wk ctk is yamaha new update keyboard has gu zheng.
Casio gu zheng sound cheap but in the yamaha it sound like it come from chinesw movies
Does is have a touch feature with different level??
Yes it does
which is better Yamaha E453 or CTK 6250?
Definitely Yamaha PSR-E453. I've reviewed both. Gearfacts
thanks
Hi, are you able to save the sound when you have adjusted the tone with the cutoff and res. knobs? Thanks
THat's a good question. The answer is: Yep :)
If I wanted to create my own arpeggio patterns, which keyboard have you come across that will allow it? thanks
+JacobiteJake is probably start by looking at Casio's XW series, they have good arpeggio creating features.
Thanks, the XW series look great, however they are no longer available here in the uk :(
Hmm, I see. Novation keyboards like the Xio have some arp making features. Maybe look into that?
Hi thanks for this amazing review I watched your other vid on things you didn't like and it seems worth buying it. If you don't mind got 3 questions.

How do you record a drum beat without the left chords kicking in?? 😡😡
You have to turn the Accompaniment button off. I think it's located bear the start button and it might be abbreviated to "ACC ON/OFF" or something like that. hope that helps. To be honest, and despite all the vids I've made about this board, I've never used it's internal recording >_>
i have one. Can i put patches from laptop into keyboard?
Gex Gonzalez you can, but it's easier to use the USB slot. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Gearfacts how to download?
and where can i get that? :) Thanks a lot bro it so helpful :)
+Gex Gonzalez you just buy an ordinary USB drive from the store. Doesn't matter what brand.
Gearfacts ah okay. but where can i get the patches?
quick question, is it possible to create your own arpeggio patterns or are you tied to the built in patterns? thanks
You are stuck to the built-in patterns, I'm afraid. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)
Justan L Baker Yes it can output the audio directly over the usb-connection into Audacity. Great feature.👍
is your slow rock style working?
I 'm gonna buy a new keyboard, so rather than psr e 453 , is novation launch key 61 a good option?
ANURANJAN .A They are totally different machines. If you want an all-in-one thing with onboard sounds and speakers then go for the Yamaha. I think it sounds good, typical Yamaha quality. I'm going to do one more video about the 453 so I'll try to remember to include a few rotary sounds :)

The foot tho.......👍🏻
Is there monophonic mode for leads? For example, where you hold one finger down and do hammer ons and pull offs with another finger like on guitar.
Yep I know monophonic, but no this keyboard does not have it.
is this keyboard can handle layering ?
abalaja2010 yep you can layer two sounds. Gearfacts

Can we use this fo fl studio

bla bla bla bla...too much!

@@gearfacts yes, too much talk and few sounds,in my opinion.
