Lyric video directed and edited by Nathan Henry. Music produced by Aaron Sprinkle and mixed by J.R. McNeely. Written by Matthew Thiessen & Matthew Hoopes. From the album "Collapsible Lung" available July 2. ©2013 Mono Vs Stereo.
I eventually fell in love with this song! It's just so honest! Every christian has a season at some point in their life when they can relate to this. It's about making mistakes and not hearing from God anymore. I love how this song explains the rest of the album
This is such a great song. It not only clarified the meaning behind most of the songs of this album, but it also helped me realize how I've tried to fill my life with worldly things, instead of following Christ, the giver of true and eternal joy.
This album would not be the same without this song
it would probably have a different title
+Merk&Cheez Not what I was going for, but that's true too
Yeah, this album would be pretty lackluster after their previous work but this song gives new meaning to the entire album and makes it into something quite amazing.
This is so incredibly happy, sad, deep, and meaningful all at the same time. I've always admired their ability to achieve that in their music.
+Amanda Wehland Well said.
My right lung has actually collapsed 6 times... so this song has a whole new level of meaning for me lol.
I cry when I hear this song because this was my sister favorite song and she is at college now and this song makes me think about her
Relient K's songs are AWESOME :)
All the other songs on the new album were actually MEANT to sound empty and shallow. They're "the miles of open road," when Matt Theissan's fiance left him and he "lost sight of what might matter the most" and "stumbled into the great unknown." The first ten tracks display where he began to look for comfort rather than to God. The last song, Collapsible Lung, is Matt's plea to the Holy Ghost, from whom he "hopes he hasn't heard the last words."
I've just listened this album again and after having read the Stephen C. Shutters review, I realized one thing: this album is brilliant, amazing and well designed. I didn't get first the message behind all the tracks but I listened carefully to them and finally found the same feeling that Stephen described. Good job Relient K.
Sang this to my dog who died of lung cancer, I tear up every time I hear this song
We love you Relient K! Thanks for making this amazing song
I bought this album not only because of the great songs, but also because I've hade a collapsed lung both the Year the album came out, and this year (2014) when I discovered the album after my second collapse lung.
Great song for someone recovering physically or mentally
I love how the Drums sound in these new songs. always have such nice sound. :)
If you have followed Relient K since the beginning, like I have you would know that every album they release they experiment with their sound to reach a greater audience. They have never received negative feedback from any of their albums because just like a die hard RK fan they take the music in and learn to love it. You can't compare the old RK to the 30 something year olds they are now. This album is their "pop" album and they are making their next one just like their others.
It has been recently that I get the why of the album. This song is the reason, the lyrics, they are amazing, I think it's so much deep that it seems. Collapsible lungs is the most meaningful song of all the album. Maybe it was obvious haha.
I just loved the 'holy ghost' thing. Relient K has always been awesome!
I felt this was the only song that was true RK song (no pop junk in it.) in the whole album. It didn't need to say oh oh oh or yeah yeah yeah a million times.. Just went straight to the point.
I think that was their point in the overall creation of this album. Losing connection to former self, regret, and locating himself (as seen in this track)
Can't complain was the best one in this album
@@Nihlm No, it was this song
I listened to this song a bunch of times when I was really depressed because I wanted to have faith when I didn’t. Now I’m happy to say I have faith again, and so now it sounds more triumphant and less exhaustive, lol.
Dude! Relient K is the full package. Lyrics that the listener connects to and makes them feel, genius musically. And it doesn't go through the filter a million people to come to a "polished" finish. Truly polished music is raw and written solely by the musician his/herself.
I love how the lyrics are like opening credits ^.^
This song and album went over the heads of many relient k listeners...it's hard to grasp the whole meaning of the album by just listening to the "generic pop songs" you pointed out. Listen to it by whole album and feel how every song fits together.
The album was awful. I've given it a listen several times, I don't care what context they're in - there's more creative, well-written ways to express regret about one night stands, chilling on the beach, etc. Matt Thiessen said himself that he took a backseat in the songwriting and let things happen, not initiating control over the writing process like he usually does. The only song he wrote on here fully was _this song_, and it shows. It's the only song I consider listening to on this dreadful, garbage album.
And it's not because I dislike pop music - Carly Rae Jepsen, even Bruno Mars, have great pop tunes. This album just sucked, plain as day. Corny tracks like "lost boy", and songs that almost seem like they're a relient k song like "don't blink", and then insufferable songs like PTL. I actually want an apology from Matt for this album.
Well....once again. Relient K makes me die of happiness
It's supposed to be full of empty, shallow pop songs though. The lead singer fell away from God, he's trying to communicate how he tried to fill his life with girls and stuff and the last two songs of the album are on how he comes back around.
This is just an excuse. And Air For Free is a lackluster, tepid album as well, with maybe the title track and Man being the only salvageable tracks.
some day i am gonna write songs like this . this is unreal
It's been two years, how's progress?
PaulBlackMAGIC
Three years
4 years and still waiting dude
Hotwired_hearts five years now buddy step it up
Hotwired_hearts 6 years how’s it going
That's because of Nathan Henry. He does awesome work!
As a Christian, it's so refreshing to hear a Christian group talk about all the other shit in life. I love my Father, but I don't need Thiessen to preach to me. There's other things I need to hear about.
Relient K's new album is an art! This song beautifully sums up the whole album!
Aw, Relient K, you've been my favourite band since I was 13 and I feel like you've continually released music that has aged and matured as I have. You experiment. You don't do the same stuff twice. I like that.
this song and this band inspires me to this day and will for the rest of my life. Thank you, Relient K. See you at Bogarts!
RELIENT K: SOUTH AMERICA NEED YOU MAKE A TOUR HERE! PLEASEEE!!
this song needs to be more known
Relient k is ABSOLUTLEY amazing. I have been a fan for so long I low them they never get old
Its so cool listening to this song with to head phones. The pianos in the right ear and guitar in the right and vocals varies its so awesome.
I had a hard time with this album at first. But the more and more I listen, this song especially, I am able to hear the progression in their music. It doesn't actually sound THAT different to me anymore. And I love this song.
Relient K is and always will be my favorite band ever.
Feeling SOO stinkin' honored i get to see them for the second time this year...ahh.... BEST Band that will ever walk this Earth. Thanks Nate, your work is terrific!
Best song on the album. This and Don't Blink are the only ones worth buying sadly. I'm expecting much more out of the next album based on past amazingness.
This song was the first Relient K song I ever heard, and it’s definitely one of my favs!
Totally the best Song of the year in this Genre, Maybe the best Out of all genres!
I remember when i preordered this album. It's been so long...
Such elloquence, I wish I had your ability with words.
This song is so amazing it makes me wanna cry
I'm happy they are back I missed um a lot
I know how ya feel I missed them too
Best song off the new album.
I've loved all three lyric videos you guys put out so far, but I have to say that this one is my favourite. It has the lyrics from your Bird and the Bee Sides days (and some of the really early stuff) that never fails to make me smile and gives me that urge to hit the open road or the open sky and go somewhere new. You guys are a never ending source of hope for me, and this song is a perfect example of that feeling. Can't wait to officially get the new album on Tuesday, guys! I'll LOVE it!
The video really portraits the nostalgia of the song and the band.
Wow I cannot WAIT until the new album....
Such wonderful Music.
499 likes and 0 dislikes. RELIENT K IS THIS AWESOME.
You guys have the best lyric videos.
mm I can't stop listening to this song.. yay for auto-replay :)

Creo que amaré esta banda por siempre :)
So excited to see you guys go to St. Louis for Warped tour. I think this is defintely a sick day at work!
Haha, that was really creative. Why are you guys still the best? haha. Relient K, yall are my long lost older brothers.
Yes! I've been waiting for this song almost three months.
This is flawless.
I love this song. For a long time this was my least favorite album, but its really grown on me.
Cool video and I'm feeling the song and I'm thinking that I'm really going to like this album.
I really enjoy this song. I'm going to have to pick up the album soon. If only it came out today, I would've given it to myself as a birthday present.
I love the sound of the new album! Can't wait to pick it up! Way to go, guys!!!
Jesus christ this song is beautiful
By far the best song on the album. I really like this one, and the video is extremely clever. I hope this is more of the attitude musically they get back into after this album.
I read his review as well and I couldn't agree more with you. This album just become a million times better
I am so psyched for this album.
I'm crying its so good
It took me the longest time to listen to this song... I love it.
Hey, you got here before me bud. It's still awesome though.
Do yourself a favor, and go away.
Relient K IS and always WILL BE great stuff.
You know what, guys? This album is gonna be just great. Don't you go worryin' about how it sounds like this or that (too "pop" for some of your tastes, I know) But this is Relient K. I bet 50% of the songs will sound like good ol' Relient K style ("Collapsible Lung" is one of them) and 50% of the songs will sound quite different. Thank goodness. I can't stand those bands that have one good song on a 12 song album, due to the rest of the songs being carbon copies of that one hit wonder song.
Great work! The old-timey cars fit the song nicely
My fav abulm by them
I like this song. 13 years from Now I will look back and say "hey I remember the time collapsible lung" was released. Some guy on youtube leaked it too early but then he took it down.
You guys always put a big cheesy grin on my face...THANKS!!
this video is aCTUALLY PERFECT
Hit it out of the park again guys. Congrats on the new album.
Weve bin wating relient k!!

Ok i love this.
Beautiful Song
This is awesome! I can't wait for the new album!!!!
Yep, agree with you both! And I am so relieved! :)
You haven't made a music video since Five Score and Seven Years Ago. With all these LYRIC videos, who is all for a RK music video?
This was fantastic! Can't wait to listen to the whole record!
Best song off the album!
This ia definitely the best song on the new record!
nice and cool. praise God!
New albuuuuuum. So happpppyyyyy
I'm brazilian... and love your ♥
Olá! Lancei um vídeo sobre Relient K e falo sobre um disco deles. Fica o convite. Talvez goste.
Woah! I am liking this change of sound over the years. :')
I love this song...
So excited for this new album!! All of it sounds amazing so far :D
I love all three of these lyric videos but they make me more eager to see a music video for a new song
Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the other songs on this album, they are just too generic "tonight", "baby" kind of songs in my opinion. But this, this is so beautiful. This song is the Relient K I know, and yearn to hear.
EEEEP I'M SO EXCITED!!
I don't love this album but I do love this song
First song ive heard that i actually like. Its still poppy, but not as poppy as the other songs theyve done vids for
I love this chill sound
Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time won’t slow down
I’m getting by with my collapsible lung
And it’s a good time 100% of the time
And I’m like a ladder with a missing rung
And it’s a slow climb headed back to the sky
And I’m feelin' backwards when I’m trying the most
And I hope haven’t heard the last words from the holy ghost
Cause I think that I’m supposed to be
Well on my way by now
I'll do the twist with my replaceable hips
And turn you right round
Then dip you down to the ground
And now I wanna grow old and rub your tired limbs
And take it easy
Until we wither away
Until we wither away
Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time can’t slow down
To take a breath and then take it in
To think of places I’ll go I haven’t been
To pour my heart into everything I've found
Time won’t slow down
Feelin' backwards
And I hope haven’t heard the last words
No, no, no
Cause I think that I’m supposed to be
Well on my way-eh-eh!
Eh eh!
Wooo…
To pour my heart into everything I found
Between the miles of open road
I lost sight of what might matter the most
I stumbled into the great unknown and found
That time won’t slow down
To take a breath and then take it in
To think of places I’ll go I haven’t been
those feels...
I miss you guys so much 🖤
Thank you for writing this.
