I grew up in Texas, but in a suburb. My dream was to be raised on a ranch. We were poor, dad died and mom couldn’t afford for me to even join the FFA. Couldn’t afford a goat or calf, LOl. I was never fortunate enough to buy or live or work a ranch. Today I just help out my family with cows when they need worked, and do bush hogging during grow season. So, you my friend were very fortunate, and lived a dream. I’m sure it wasn’t all fun and glamorous, but the best things in life are often simple and somewhat difficult at times.

They took it home and the next morning I hopped in and kept getting bucked off until it quit bucking. Once I broke that horse, I learned to ride on that horse. I was 5 yrs old...did that with no help from anyone. My mom stood by and watched, but did not interfere. I been riding ever since. I am going to be 60 next month. @@benwolfnecklace1649 nice story. Excellent point. It was more about the life than living grand. Not sure if I could stand by and watch my 5 year old get bucked off over and over. I’m just turned 60. I failed to mention that for nine years, in my 30’s, we lived on 40 acres. My in laws lived next door. He owned thoroughbreds, had nice barn and had people train them to race. All I helped him do was care for them when they were home. Never road them. They were too expensive and he only wanted trainers on them. I was bucked and horse rolled back on me once. But never owned a horse. He got out of the business and sold everything. Died last year.

Today, King Ranch sprawls across 825,000 acres of South Texas land, an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. As the home of 35,000 cattle and over 200 Quarter Horses, King Ranch is one of the largest ranches in the world today.

Most ranchers do not just raise livestock. They also make money in many other ways. Many mine minerals and oil/gas/propane. Hunters and visitors rent cabins for money. Making movies on ranch land is not free either.
Even Ted Turners ranches have minerals being mined or drilled for money. He also entertained millionaire hunters to hunt for money. He also raised bison to sell at his restaurants.

During one episode; one of the villains made an offer of $500 million and one actor said that came to $4000 per acre. So yes; they said exactly how much land it was. 125,000 acres. BTW: that’s not even close to being the biggest ranch in the USA 🇺🇸 .
King Ranch (in Texas) is currently about 825,000 acres (once it was over 1.25 million acres) consisting of four tracts. It is stated that as of Feb 2022; as being the biggest single ranch in the USA. At one time the King family owned ranches in several other countries as well; amounting to several million acres.
Ted Turner who created CNN: owns over 2.2 million acres of land across the United states (not one ranch but MANY ranches). He was the largest private land owner in the USA 🇺🇸 until being surpassed in 2007 by another billionaire. Again a bunch of ranches all over the country.
