- A R160 makes a very rare appearance on the C line.
A R179 A train Is also seen departing the station.
This set was borrowed off the J/M lines.

No it won't because the M is not running on 53rd/QBL until 2024, and this set is from the M. C/M have 8 cars but A has 10 cars so not possible
@iNevaan Tho as said before this is temporary plus it won't run everyday likely during weekends, MTA is planning to make the (C) 10 cars sometime in the future.
For everyone replying, Queens Blvd is a line with high ridership, behind the Canarsie and Flushing Line. Therefore it would make more sense for the R211's out of the option order to go to Jamaica Yard.
Fleet assignments are based on CBTC installations and fleet age to some extent, with CBTC taking priority. A line like the 8th Avenue A and C trains do have old cars and are in the process of getting CBTC. Therefore, it would be beneficial to get R211 cars. In contrast, you have lines like the Broadway N/W and Q that are using old cars, but are NOT earmarked for CBTC installation. Therefore, it would be unwise to send R211's over to all of these lines.
Now you have the open gangway trains. A big increase in space compared to the R160, a third criteria has been added. high ridership. As mentioned before, Queens Boulevard has high ridership and crowding on the E and F routes is prominent. Given this the QBL already has CBTC and these two lines have high ridership, so it makes sense to have R211's go over there, with the R160 cars offloaded onto lower volume lines. It really makes zero sense for train cars of higher capacity to be assigned with lower ridership volumes while high ridership lines get stuck with lower capacity cars. It really doesn't match. By doing the assignments in the way I mentioned, with the R211's also considered for the E and F, things become more efficient.
Remember, just because the R211's are replacing the R46 cars DOES not mean that they only have to go to lines with these cars. It is definitely okay to assign these cars to lines that don't even have the old cars like Jamaica and off load the cars from said yard to the yards with older cars.
Exactly. It would only make sense to put R211's on the lines with higher ridership because of the more space capacity. Also, some R160's from Jamacia could be lent to the Broadway lines or the B & D

I was trying to explain that but people are so obsessed with the B and D that think would get R211. But don't realize that R160's ran on the F and M also on 6th Avenue too. The E and F contenders for the R211A/T's. R160's are for lines that have less ridership. Which makes sense for the E and F to release a portion of their R160's elsewhere.

Which it should go to the E and F and maybe the R. Since the B and D don’t need them as much since R160 like you said runs well at 6th Avenue too. Yeah those idiot people they don't have any sources whatsoever if 6th Avenue had high ridership then it would be the other way around but by their logic they want the R211's on the N, Q and W so badly once again the MTA is not going to put R211's that don't have CBTC and lines with less ridership and part time routes it would be a waste, R160's are more suitable for lines with low ridership like 6th Avenue and Broadway while the R211's are more suitable for lines with CBTC and for lines with high ridership lines like 8th Avenue and Queens Boulevard so it is logical to put factory fresh cars on the (E) and (F) since those two lines have high ridership
The M is gonna be cut off from QBL until 2024, so that probably freed up this R160 for the C.

I remember seeing R160 4-Car Sets on the C line from 2013-2018, and I rode the 4-Car R160 Sets on the C line when it was assigned to the line.

Could this also have been the reason why Wikipedia said that a handful of 4-car R160’s were equipped with CBTC for use on the 8th Avenue Line?
I think it's more likely that these are equipped for use on the M, since that's a line that also runs on Queens Blvd and 6th Ave. But at the end of the day, I believe most of the B division will use the same CBTC system, and I think a major reason they're expanding CBTC to other IND lines after Queens Blvd became the first non-independent corridor is for train reroutes.
The glaring exception is the L, so you will never see 8101-8376 outside of Canarsie (except on the J 🤷♂️).
There are some number of sets from the M that are loaned to the C while the M is shortened to 57th Street. I assume they are being used for the mid day service increases, and to potentially sideline the most problematic R46s. By the time they are returned to the M, more R211s should be in service to take over.

Still, pretty cool to see the C run with R160’s even if it’s only temporarily.
After work on the 63rd Street branch is finished, we may never see R160’s run on the C ever again (unless the MTA were to have it replace the R along QBL as part of de-interlining)

Yeah, since the M is only traveling as far as 57th st 6th Avenue for the next several months, this frees up a few 160a sets that could be used by the C line temporarily.
While this service change sucks ass in the worst way, it is necessary.
The sad part about this is the TA could have sent the M back up Second Avenue to 96th st during this construction. *(yeah I know, the work includes CBTC overlay And track rebuilding..so as little train traffic as possible is the best option).
Too bad there isn't a connection to the Broadway BMT from the Williamsburg Bridge Broadway Brooklyn Elevated line...

And since the R211 slowly gets more each month the A can be Be mostly R211/R179 with some r46
