I have a brand new Launch AL539 which worked fine a few times but when it wouldn't turn on under the warranty Autel would not even repair or replace it under their one year warranty. They played me around for 6 months until it was out of warranty. It's still got the original clear plastic protection over the screen for Christ sake. Like new. Anyway they probably did me a big favour because I discovered Launch and they offer me the best product over a much larger range of cars with full free lifetime updates which has saved me much more than the Autel products have cost me.
Ivan good comparison on the Think Tools ... Would you do just a Spreadsheet on the different Scanners with the major Pros and Cons...I know in the past ,European cars preferred one tool over another...Then post 1996 cars are finicky to other units...For the DIY, My main concern is paying a yearly fee with some units for each brand of cars.
Yearly fees are a great point - one UA-camr recently recommended a great scanner, in his judgment, which I respect, but it proved difficult for me to access any of the free software for all vehicles that was promised. It was hard to determine if the problem was just a temporary software glitch, or a promise intentionally not honored by the manufacturer/distributor, since buyers had little or no recourse. However, over several days of trying to get the included software I had paid for, I noticed that purchasers were conveniently offered a way to easily purchase the modules you might need at considerable cost per module for each manufacturer and specific model line of its vehicles, if I remember correctly. What I do vividly remember is that the extra cost of having to purchase expensive specific software modules, for the scanner to be usable, immediately converted this purchase into a non-starter, and a trap for unwary purchasers. Luckily I had purchased it from Amazon and I returned it within the 30-day return window, rather than take a chance. Others, if they got the promised software, may have received a wonderful tool, and I hope they did.
I was seriously considering the Diagun V a year ago. But I've since bought my second Mercedes and I think I am just going to put the money into the Star laptop setup so I can do modules and everything.
@@sirsweetness8332 I bought an 04 E55 AMG in June 2020 and liked it so much I just bought an 07 S550 as a daily. The way I see it, I am putting my skills to work to be able to drive nice cars. The E55 was $9500 and the S550 was $12k. The E55 runs solid mid-12s and while an LS460 can probably do a reasonable approximation of my S550, it's not the same thing, at all. Nice video. I bought the Thinktool Pros last month based on Ivan's recommendation. They had it on sale for about $970 plus a $99 off coupon so with that plus a small Amazon points balance I was able to pick it up for around $856. It's a very nice scanner and I have already used it on a couple of vehicles. I'm just a DIY'er but wanted something a lot better than what I had. I will point out that the Pros is a discontinued model and the new equivalent is the Thinkcar Platinum S10 which Thinkcar is having a 30% off sale right now. The S10 is more expensive at $1,499 but with the discount will be cheaper. I believe it offers a few things that the Pros doesn't like internet access. I have also bought some of the modules that you can use with the Pros and their Platinum series of scanners and they are pretty nice as well. One that I did buy is the scope because I wanted a four channel scope and this works well with the scanner.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics From what I can find there are two versions of the scope. One for the Pros and one for the mini or PD8. CARiD has a sale going now. Too many model #s that all look the same to me.

Purchased the Thinktool pros after watching this video. Very pleased with the scanners functionality. I need to program a new key fob for a 2013 Chevy avalanche. Does this scanner have this capability?
Any video reviews on the Topdon Plus vs Lauch X431 Pro vs Autel MK906 within the $1,200 range cant find any comparing to find the best bang for the buck to work best on GM and Chevrolet, Ford Etc..?
Ivan, could you do a video on the price of the updates after 2 years for the thinktool pros and does it give the info of the dpf and can you force a clean.
I find it interesting that the Thinktool pros scanner isn't even listed as a product on the official Thinkcar website. Nor is it listed for support on that website. However, just about every other thinkcar product is listed including the cheap Thinkdiag scanner. In fact the dongle for the Thinkdiag is identical to the Thinktool pros scanner dongle. Makes you wonder how well this tool will be supported.
@@jduda1127 The Thinktool Pros US equivalent is the Thinkcar Platinum S10 which is more expensive than the Pros. The Pros is discontinued and a global machine and is why you don't see it on their website.

Odd. It looks like both scanners are based on the same software for Toyota: v50.10. If it came from different sources, I doubt they would have the exact same version number.
I have a the Diagun V. I use it as a Nissan master tech when all the consults are in use. It does a LOT for the price. I can actually program keys on new Nissans faster with this than the consult. Go figure.

Hey Ivan I noticed in your older videos that the screen capture function was not available in the ThinkTool Pros at first. Did a software update bring it to you later or was there a setting that you used to get it to appear? Thanks!
Replying to myself and the rest of you. If you don't know, because the directions included with the Thinktool are just Chinesium comprehensive. In order to get the screenshot button to show you have to enable that feature in the scanner by running your finger from the top of the screen down to the middle and out of nowhere will appear a menu that allows you to select brightness and change some other settings. Selecting the enable screenshot icon will place the screenshot icon on the screen. This of course is not anywhere in the instruction booklet. Furthermore you can move the little icon anywhere you want on the screen once it is enabled.
The biggest downside to the thinktool pros is that it will not allow you to add repair apps or any apps for that matter and it will not allow you to access Google in order to gain access to your repair websites. I even saw where you had to pull out your laptop just to access a repair website. At this price point I think it is overly priced because it lacks these essential features. They even make a $6000 platinum edition that also lacks the ability to add repair apps and access google. Just about any Autel scanner will allow you to do this like a normal android tablet will. I almost pulled the trigger until I saw your video which caused me to do some serious research. And all the add-on modules average around $800 apiece. I can buy better versions of these independently from a better manufacturer for approximately 1/4 of the cost. It is a shame though because I do like the features of the scan tool.
Has anyone heard that ...Due to policy restrictions, programming functions are temporarily not supported in the United States, Canada, Spain, and Portugal... thus the THINKTOOL PROS+ ($2K) is effectively useless as this brings it to the level of the PROS... or are these restrictions also applied to the used modules the PRO S may handle?
Yes, I use the Thinktool Pros+. I program all the time. As much as I heard a yearly SCN account from Mercedes costs, the fact the Thinktool connects to the servers and gets this SCN info makes it well worth it. Hint….vpn
@@ShogunnxYT I’ve been searching high and low for someone to explain the programming differences between the Pros and Pros+. I’m about to buy one, but don’t know if the + is offering anything I need for the extra cost. I’m definitely not getting into ADAS any time soon.
@@athhud the ProS+ can program a Replacement part for a newer Bmw , on its own , without a laptop or a pass thru. It can program a Nissan ecm, again, on its own. The ProS+ is comparable to the Launch Pad V. Even shaped the same. The others are more compatible to a Launch X431 Plus.
@@ShogunnxYT thanks! I finally got in touch with a dealer on the other side of the world. I was excited about programming without a J2534, but then he informed me that it would pretty much be useless when it comes to programming American vehicles. I MIGHT could make use of it on the occasional Nissan, but I’ve decided that money would be better put towards a J2534 device where I could actually get some use out of it.
@@athhud that’s partially true. What I learned is that it depends on what’s the bulk of your cars you work on. If you do all cars, then the Launch would pay for itself fast. I believe the Pad 7 even comes with a J2534 as it’s Vci. For me , I mostly do euoropean, Asian and some American. Remember, Bosch/OTC scan tools come with PassThru VCIs. I think that was their answer to Snapon. However, they are pretty limited in capability. I bought a Mac Mentor Touch from eBay for about $250. I tinkered around with the main unit and ended up wiping it (windows based). Lol. So the tablet side is useless now. However, I keep the VCI with me wherever I go bcuz it is a full J2534 passthru. Also , keep in mind Chrysler makes it pretty hard to program their modules from blank. I usually meet clients who have swapped a part for a used working part. This only needs immobilization or adaptation service on your scan tool to succeed. Fords usually just need parameter resets for pcms and ASBUILD data for other modules. Gm needs the passthru. Good luck sir
@@HollyArms1 well after many messages with an eBay seller on the other side of the world, I learned that the Pros+ didn’t really offer me anything more than extra memory. The ADAS I’ll never use. I was excited about the “Online Programming” without having to use the J2534 device, but then he informed me that feature only worked with European cars (and some Asian). Basically the only time I would get any use out of it, is if my mom’s Nissan needed a module programmed. I think I’ve settled on the Pros, but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.
I would never buy a thinktool , they are part of EDIAG that has no tech support or phone # Just an email that goes to China and no response. Thank you for this video and have a great Thanksgiving. P/S. Just looked on Amazon and with Prime that tool is too good to pass up, free shipping also.
Wow that's incredible. I can't believe I didn't think of that first. I'm gonna make a copy of all the .apk files on my zurich zr pro, and see if I can install them on another device with bluetooth. I mean, I can't think of any reason why that wouldn't work.
Really like the content , you inspired me not to throw money at the problem. Nissan Titan won't take a 710 CCA battery. It will die overnight but will take 910 CCA with no issue .
Thanks for the review Ivan. One thing that was overlooked in these reviews is the cost of ownership based on the yearly licensing. For a professional is not a problem, but forna DIY could it be
So which one is best for programming Keys including proximity. In Australia this is a problem, dealers usually want over $600 on most cars, locksmiths around half that. You can buy the blank keys but you can't program them
The best thing you can get for programming keys would be some kind of specialized programmer, like the Autel IM608. It can do pretty much just about anything you can throw at it, not to mention the special hardware addons it has. Especially useful for programming smart keys. Aside from that, most of your higher end bi directional tools have pretty similar key/immo funtionality.
Hello, does the Diagun V, really program new ECU's? Does it really do crankshaft & camshaft relearns? Also, could you program a new BCM: body control module, with it?

I've had a Launch X431 Pad II for a good while now, back when I was working at the local Volvo dealer. I generally only worked on Volvo's, Mercedies and BMWs back then. It was far better than the shop's Snap-On scanner on those types of cars. Admittedly, it's pretty slow on initial bootup. But once it's up and running, it's reasonably fast. My only hang-up on it is that Launch scanners seem to be a bit lacking in TPMS support for a lot of cars. And now that I work for a body shop that works on practically everything under the sun, I'm beginning to wonder if I should consider upgrading.
I have a launch 431 but was debating to get a thinktool, just based on what you've shown it can do. It appears to some more capabilities on some cars. Thank you for your review, Ivan!
@@globalcommerce7654 No, now that I have received my 20% discounted (### Thanks for the Tip, Ivan!! ### ) ThinkTool PROS in. I don't think one is a copy of the other. The thinktool seems to do a lot more, just in terms of saving data and telemetry on a vehicle to vehicle basis, allowing pre and post repair reports. That's a nice feature. You can save telemetry, photos, notes, etc from the looks of it. Comparing it by hooking it into a Honda CRV, it has more functions and pids. The interface is much faster. Some dialog boxes look similar but that's likely a function of whatever tool they used to develop the software. It scans fast too. The hierarchical view is new to me - it makes it all very clear. I haven't fixed anything with it yet but will try the launch and thinktool side by side.
All my vehicles are pre 2006 and I bought both the diagn IV and the Autel MaxiPRO MP808K with the intention of sending back the one I didn't like (free Amazon returns). I ended up keeping the Autel due to bigger screen size, nicer graphing options, and one continuous page for active pids on the data stream. If you activate all the pids on the diagn and need to see the next page it loads for a while and it was driving me nuts. Plus the small text was a little annoying. if I had to buy today I would go with the pros.
@@DevonBbrown I don't know - you get free updates for the 1st year or two and that's all I did as I don't own any newer vehicles so don't need the updates. You don't need a subscription to keep running the unit - you'll just have access to the vehicles included in your updates. Mine is updated to 2022 vehicles. I imagine I'll never have to use it on that new of a vehicle. Take care!
Thanks for the ThinkTool Pros review. I ordered and received the amazon special. I will add that the literature states that you can continue to use the scanner even if you don't upgrade. I can find no source for what each adapter is used for. They appear to be OBD1 adapters. Do you simply go by physical fit to use the adapters? Is there a car vs adapter listing somewhere? My last question, can you use the phone app on this ThinkDiag unit once it is registered using the tablet? It appears that all the proprietary stuff is in the diag unit, not in the tablet.
If you only own ONE car or only buy one brand of car, and don't need bi-directional controls, the best FULL SYSTEM OBD2 scanner is the Walmart HyperTough HT200 Bluetooth dongle for only $50. It uses the same vehicle-specific software as the high-end Autel, TopDon, Launch or ThinkCar scanners and includes 14 reset/service functions at no additional cost.
As an amateur who's RANK at best I can't afford $300 yearly software upgrade. So, for instance, if I have a 2018 Toyota Sequoia that I want to maintain can I buy a scanner and use it UN-UPGRADED for the life of the car? That for personal use is it appropriate to ONLY UPGRADE when I get a newer car or when I help a friend who has newer car??
Ivan, good demonstration on the think pro and diagun V. Good timing on both. Diagun V is perfect for on the go jobs, think pro is perfect for deeper and detailed information on jobs in site. Since i have Launch crp129x Scan tool, it's what i could afford to get at the time. I like it, but think pro would be better for me in detailed work. I am particularly interested in screen capture, screen recording while live data, but software updates? Lifetime updates or subscription? That's what will influence my choice. I like both! Great demo! 👍
Thanks for the comment, Josh! No supscription costs, and 2 years free updates. You won't need to update the software at all unless you run into brand-new 2021 or newer cars :)

The problem with android based devices is the boot time.. my old modis edge booted up in like 5 seconds and would be ready to go. But it was 10x the price and couldn't do 1/2 the stuff any of those can do minus the scope
What about replacing modules that need to be programmed? For instance Ford electric power steering or GM fuel pump module. I have an Autel MK808 it does a lot but i want more. Thanks for your reviews and videos.

Thanks for the information Ivan.
I was seriously considering the Diagun V a year ago. But I've since bought my second Mercedes and I think I am just going to put the money into the Star laptop setup so I can do modules and everything.
You are going to have to buy the dongle for $8.99 since you just bought a Mercedes. Good luck with those replacement costs.
@@sirsweetness8332 I bought an 04 E55 AMG in June 2020 and liked it so much I just bought an 07 S550 as a daily. The way I see it, I am putting my skills to work to be able to drive nice cars. The E55 was $9500 and the S550 was $12k. The E55 runs solid mid-12s and while an LS460 can probably do a reasonable approximation of my S550, it's not the same thing, at all. just pulled the trigger on The Launch Diagun V, happy turkey day Ivan and family.
Thank you for the info! Would be interesting to try the 4 channel scope...
Where do you see the 30% sale on the Platinum? You probably can't post a link, but could you mention the vendor?
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics From what I can find there are two versions of the scope. One for the Pros and one for the mini or PD8. CARiD has a sale going now. Too many model #s that all look the same to me.
Thank you Ivan hope you have a happy thanksgiving i got the launch diagun because of you and your videos it's awsome learned alot now i want the thinktool pros because i know from your honest review it will be good really good
Ivan think you could do a review on the Xtool d8 bt ...
Purchased the Thinktool pros after watching this video. Very pleased with the scanners functionality. I need to program a new key fob for a 2013 Chevy avalanche. Does this scanner have this capability?
Ivan , have you used the Triton D10 ? It’s stupid fast
What would you recommend for 2010 and older? My F-250 Diesel is 2010 and my Jeep is 2002
I feel the. Diagun is great for starter technician or for someone at a dealer that works on one brand would you agreeb
The thinktool pros Where you bought it
Any video reviews on the Topdon Plus vs Lauch X431 Pro vs Autel MK906 within the $1,200 range cant find any comparing to find the best bang for the buck to work best on GM and Chevrolet, Ford Etc..?
Ivan, could you do a video on the price of the updates after 2 years for the thinktool pros and does it give the info of the dpf and can you force a clean.
what do you do about 2018 cars with gateways?. maybe you could dedicate a video to this issue?
I find it interesting that the Thinktool pros scanner isn't even listed as a product on the official Thinkcar website. Nor is it listed for support on that website. However, just about every other thinkcar product is listed including the cheap Thinkdiag scanner. In fact the dongle for the Thinkdiag is identical to the Thinktool pros scanner dongle. Makes you wonder how well this tool will be supported.
I think the think tool pros is actually for another county and read somewhere the US version is the think tool pad10
@@jduda1127 The Thinktool Pros US equivalent is the Thinkcar Platinum S10 which is more expensive than the Pros. The Pros is discontinued and a global machine and is why you don't see it on their website.

Hi Ivan,
Are you able to do a comparison between the Think Tool Pros and Bosch ADS625?
Bosch is an expensive brick lol
What scan tool would you recommend for usr on a 97 dodge caravan? It's

Go figure.
I bought this with the hopes of lowering my suspension on a 2005 Mercedes what ABC suspension hopefully it will work.. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Ok...im asking you on different video but here is answer.
i bought a xtool and it has full bi directional but its live data graphing just sucks, any recomendation for NON bi direction that has a good graphing of live data? somthing that can be paused/compare multiple graphs and timed markings so for instance if i want to compare o2 to rpm so i know its doing what it should at a given rpm.just somthing useable. im willing to sacrifice bi direction for cost
Have you ever use a OBD2 cable splitter?
Thanks Ivan, Diagun V for me, or 6 - 7 tanks of gas..
Furthermore you can move the little icon anywhere you want on the screen once it is enabled.
does it have oscilloscope function
can you add the launch oscilloscope
Happy thanksgiving to you and everyone . Which one yo get to program keys 🔑?????????
Autel IM608 is the undisputed.
Does either tool required updates? If so how much do they cost?
Can either tool do things like crank sensor relearn or code a new ABS module to a car?
Highly depends on the vehicle. Usually yes 👍
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics it’s a 1998 BMW 323i 😩😬
Has anyone heard that ...Due to policy restrictions, programming functions are temporarily not supported in the United States, Canada, Spain, and Portugal... thus the THINKTOOL PROS+ ($2K) is effectively useless as this brings it to the level of the PROS... or are these restrictions also applied to the used modules the PRO S may handle?
Sure beats the snot out of my three year old Autel ds808.

Yes, USB port for charing.
What's the difference between pros and pro
Pros has bigger screen
Do you know the difference between the pros and pros+? I don't see side by side comparison, its another $600.
Did you ever figure out the difference. I’m trying to decide which to buy now. I know the + does ADAS, which I don’t need.
@@athhud I never did find out, I went with an autel
@@HollyArms1 well after many messages with an eBay seller on the other side of the world, I learned that the Pros+ didn’t really offer me anything more than extra memory. The ADAS I’ll never use. I was excited about the “Online Programming” without having to use the J2534 device, but then he informed me that feature only worked with European cars (and some Asian). Basically the only time I would get any use out of it, is if my mom’s Nissan needed a module programmed. I think I’ve settled on the Pros, but haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet.

Could the Diagun V, really program new ECU's? Could it also program a new BCM? And, does it really do crankshaft sensor and cam shaft sensor relearns?
What do you think of the TOPDON PHOENIX PLUS vs Thinktool pros
So which one is best for programming Keys including proximity. In Australia this is a problem, dealers usually want over $600 on most cars, locksmiths around half that. You can buy the blank keys but you can't program them
The best thing you can get for programming keys would be some kind of specialized programmer, like the Autel IM608. It can do pretty much just about anything you can throw at it, not to mention the special hardware addons it has. Especially useful for programming smart keys. Aside from that, most of your higher end bi directional tools have pretty similar key/immo funtionality.

Doesnt BMW and Mercedes use their own program like VCDS for VW/Audi vehicles?
I have a launch 431 but was debating to get a thinktool, just based on what you've shown it can do. It appears to some more capabilities on some cars. Thank you for your review, Ivan!
These tools are all the same, clones of each other..
@@kastooMcFry I say that they are the same as in core software and obd2 tool, just with minor modifications as you mentioned,.

Why the Thinktool ProS and just PRO?
All my vehicles are pre 2006 and I bought both the diagn IV and the Autel MaxiPRO MP808K with the intention of sending back the one I didn't like (free Amazon returns). I ended up keeping the Autel due to bigger screen size, nicer graphing options, and one continuous page for active pids on the data stream. If you activate all the pids on the diagn and need to see the next page it loads for a while and it was driving me nuts. Plus the small text was a little annoying. if I had to buy today I would go with the pros.
The MP808 is a very good unit.
How much is the subscription cost for the maxipro?
If I only have one vehicle, is there something between the bluetooth/app and the $1000 full function scanners?
If you only own ONE car or only buy one brand of car, and don't need bi-directional controls, the best FULL SYSTEM OBD2 scanner is the Walmart HyperTough HT200 Bluetooth dongle for only $50. It uses the same vehicle-specific software as the high-end Autel, TopDon, Launch or ThinkCar scanners and includes 14 reset/service functions at no additional cost.
What is the pro s ? Your link does t work to Amazon. I see a pro +
With all the different scanners that you use which one is your go to scanner
As an amateur who's RANK at best I can't afford $300 yearly software upgrade. So, for instance, if I have a 2018 Toyota Sequoia that I want to maintain can I buy a scanner and use it UN-UPGRADED for the life of the car? That for personal use is it appropriate to ONLY UPGRADE when I get a newer car or when I help a friend who has newer car??
No need to upgrade anything ever if you don't keep buying brand-new cars every year :)

Diagun V is perfect for on the go jobs, think pro is perfect for deeper and detailed information on jobs in site. Since i have Launch crp129x Scan tool, it's what i could afford to get at the time.
