Grown (by Tiffany D. Jackson) is amazing! But I think your description of it is slightly inaccurate; you described the murdered guy as someone who "has been helping" the main character "along her journey". He's actually an abusive boyfriend who uses promises of "helping her be a star" to facilitate getting into a relationship with the main character. I'm letting you know so you don't go into it with the wrong expectations. It's very disturbing, as it depicts physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. The book is called grown because the boyfriend is 28 and the MC is 17, and because it talks about how society's adultification of Black girls (trying to get Black girls to grow up fast or treat them like adults too soon) is tied to victim-blaming.
Getting my Chinese food ready 🥡, getting ready to watch a new Hailey in Bookland video 😘 because today is my 25th birthday 🎂🎉🎁🎈🥳. Today has been a very great day 🤩🤩🤩
I'll have to look up that Enigma one. I like books that deal with Enigma, Bletchley Park, codebreakers, etc. I have a couple more I recently found that are now on my tbr list. I first became fascinated by it when reading David Khan's The Codebreakers long ago; and later Simon Singh's The Code Book (both non-fiction).
When These Violent Delights came up I almost thought this was going to go from a list to a spontaneous reading vlog. That would have been a cool twist!
These Violent Delights is an excellent book, and I deeply enjoyed it. I decided not to read the sequel based off the fact that I don't really care for investigative mysteries and I won't continue unless I am interested in the ongoing story. But this was a very well-written book with many strengths, and also many characters. I would actually recommend this for anyone who really loved The Diviners, and I know that you did.
Unfortunately The Henna Wars was only 3 stars for me, there wasn’t anything “wrong” with it, I guess I just wasn’t a big fan. I hope you LOVE it though!
I love how I'm overwhelmed if there are three books coming out that I can't wait for, and you're so chill about a multitude, 😃
