I knew & Loved John Neihardt, when I was young the stories he’d tell would fascinate and warm me. I knew his daughter, Alice better…my Mother would take us out to visit. She had a tape of him talking with Black Elk’s son. (Video & audio back in the “reel” days). I’m not sure what happened to it, after she died. It was good to hear you speak of those things and that time and now. Blessings. ❤. ✌🏼💜
I'm here due to a rather odd event... When walking past one box of old books this morning the paperback "Black Elk Speaks" caught my eye, so strongly as to make me pick it up and pop it open, "at random" to see what he might say. It was the page where he describes what happened on September 9th, one year in his youth, around the Black Hills. Today is September 9th. I've just returned from a cross-country trip that passed near the Black Hills. It's one of those things that makes a person wonder "WHAT'S THE DEAL?!?" : o
I bought the book "Black Elk Speaks" in 1972 when I was 18 years old. It sat on my shelf for 49 years until now, as I just read it in 2021. I wish that I had read it in 1972 and every year after that. Unfortunately, not much has changed in the way humans treat each other. We continue to hope. Black Elk, we hear you and feel your sadness.
Hi, my story is similar, I bought a copy probably in 1980 in my early 20s. The other day I looked for it in my boxes, couldn't find it and ordered a copy. Now I'm reading is some 40 years later.
Same here. I had 2 copies on my shelf for 25 years. finally read it 2 years ago and again last year. I will read it again soon. It is one of the greatest spiritual stories of all time.
He was a great man. I try to remember this as I walk through life. What I can't give back, I would like to leave behind when I go. This is Black Elk's legacy that lives in me. Thank you.
Thank you. Black Elk and many other Native Elders understood Spirit (The Great Sacred) in ways that even the religious men of the prevailing culture do not understand.
He came to me in a vision a few nights ago and speaks to me daily since then. I am here to continue his vision and am working with a chief from Brazil now. Thank you for posting You come from a man that continues to inspire our nation. I am taking his message to the Rainforest tribes now.
Beautiful, for some reason BLack ELk has been in my thoughts for last 2 , 3 days. HIs message. The humility and forgiveness from the tribal people's is amazing, they live that truth. All tribal people knew the truth to the Creator, so of course those had to be eradicated. I believe the Time of Black ELks vision is close, I ask the universe to bring it forth, so we all can forgive and love together as it should be. Peace and love to all.
Hello Mary Mae, yes I hear ever and feel every word you say.. I think humility and forgiveness point us on the good path towards love. In my heart, as I go about my day and lay down at night, I hope, I think and I pray that we all will find our way on to that path of love, and that we will strive to walk it, day in, day out... - and that we will learn to be the brothers and sisters to one another that we were all meant to be... the love we find in our hearts will guide us..
@@bostonianbostonian3097 thank you, just now this comment showed up in my feed. Strange..it helps to know somewhere, someone feels as I do. It just helps, in this world we are in. Bless you

you probably already have the most important thing. as rabbi hillel said a long time ago, 'if you don't like what anyone does to you, don't do it to anyone else'. that's most of the important stuff.
