I love how Lenny is able to reflect so well on his life without blaming others. He can look at what his parent did to him but also how he himself copes with problems. Takes a real man to do that.

Lenny's father's comment before he walked out the door was pure resentment and spiteful, he was angry his Wife found out about his infidelity and she asked him to leave and good on her , for not putting up with his cheating, I admired Lenny's Mum.

  • @LJY08

I remember the night my mother asked my father to leave when she discovered he was having an affair, and his final words as he walked out the door were; "why am I the one who has to leave? It's MY house too".
You hope that in the final moment, when they're life has truly become a shambles that the will find the will to say something meaningful, or just loving, but they don't. They leave you cold and empty, and at the bottom of a very large mountain, that you have to start climbing one painful and grueling step at a time.
Anyway, they got back together but the scars NEVER go away, and it happened around the same age to ME as it did to Kravitz. There were no custody battles, or court cases, just pain, and the aching sense that things were NOT going to be okay. It truly is something that NEVER leaves you. It sits in your gut until THAT parent is no longer with you.
That is not to say that you WISH for the death of the parent, who you STILL love with all of your heart, it's just a relief when they are no longer alive for you to have to keep forgiving every day. Because, as a son or daughter, when your parents fail you, there is a sense that ANYONE can fail you. That there is NOBODY in the world who is truly safe to be with, or to put your trust in to not let you down.

LJY08 Well the reason he had to leave was he screwed another woman and hurt your mom. That doesn't mean he can't be in your life though. Plus if you were 21 at the time you could have taken initiative to see him. Shit happens in life so suck it up buttercup.

This is extremely true. This sounds like a generational curse that his dad spoke into his young sons life, because he had no idea how to break it. Or, that it could even be broken at all. Words have power, and substance. They are as tangible as anything else that has substance and takes up space. Just because you can't see them with the natural eye, people don't know that they are as materially real as any other tangible object you do actually see with your eye. " Life and death are in the power of the tongue." His dad unwittingly spoke infidelity into Lenny's life. But, spiritual strongholds can absolutely be broken. Everything that happens in the natural occurs in the spiritual realm first.

It may have been the desperation of that moment that drove his father to say those things to his son but those words, as he said, have far reaching consequences. It effects how you see yourself and how you see or view your interpersonal relationships.
There has to be an internal conflict that you are always having to resolve or quell when you reflect and find your footing again. He spoke about zeroing in on the one flaw in the room that has to be fixed. I believe that perfectionists externalize their internal struggle in that way. He's very grounded and open about his struggles which helps to understand exactly what the issue is. We are all imperfect people trying to understand ourselves and each other better.

I was hoping his father was going to say "do you want to come with me". Fathers today are not playing that "leaving my kids behind". I have a few friends that are single fathers and they could not do a day without them their kids. I like the times now where men are enjoying being dads.

All of us have been hurt and we all have the same choice - allow that pain to make us hardened and unkind to others, or allow it to make us that much kinder to others. Ask yourself which you would prefer from those who you encounter who have been hurt by someone else. We all have that choice with no exceptions. Do better and be better and don't make excuses.

This is an example of fathers cursing their sons. I think the father wanted to get back at the mother. Such an evil thing to do to a child at any age. The Bible says that fathers are not to do things to embitter their children. I am glad Lenny has insight, but it takes work and good people to help him work through it.

That's a horrible thing for a father to say to a son. Even if he believed it, he never needed to tell him that.

  • @emmanueljenkins3303

It went completely over the interviewers head. Lenny had to say at the end it was detrimental what his father said His father was actually wrong for saying that to him and it may have changed the course of his love life.

My Father had a sad life....his Father was an awful person and his Mother was too weak to stand up for herself and her children....one day when I was going through, yet another rough time, I was whining to my Father, which was strange because he and I never had a strong rapport...I guess I was just upset...He was very quiet and then said to Me..." That's because you're a loser, like Me"...I was shocked into silence...While it sounds like an insult...and maybe is was...in a way, it was if he was apologizing...it has stayed with me long after he, himself, has been gone....

Most normal people would have taken the opportunity to reassure their child that they still loved them, and would continue to love them, despite the break-up with the other parent. Humanity can be very disappointing.
