    I like how the latch of the bag is just the dowel sitting in the groove! Very cool concept. And I agree...the colors of the wood and leather are great together!

    This is so simple but yet looks so sophisticated. This is my favorite from you Jamie out of all the projects you have done so far.

    Very interesting idea on the closure. It looks great. Keep up the good work.

    Use Barge cement or similar for structural gluing like that (where you're not stitching over top), the eco leather glue stuff won't hold over time. With the tap of a hammer your stuff will be permanently stuck, no more issues holding everything while the glue dries 👍

    Awesome project! Very Creative. A good CNC project that's still accessible with tools.

    Really cool design. I'd love to see this upsized for briefcase / laptop bag. I also like the flexibility to change the look by painting the wood (although the natural wood looks great as it is).

    Pretty cool! To reinforce the edges where you glued the wood sides to the leather I can see thumbtacks being used. Would make it more durable.

    This is super cute. I inherited some old school binoculars a while ago, but they didn’t have a case. I think an adaptation of this would be perfect.

    Awww man the combination of the wood and leather looks so nice, I think I might make this to give away to my girlfriend and itd be interesting to see how it would work as a backpack or messenger bag, anyways thanks for sharing I've been needing a little inspiration lately. :)

    Impressive that this is real DIY work by a woman, instead of yet another crafty, superficial creation. This is good work! Very glad to see your CNC table top machine, and I must get one. I also did not realize you could glue leather easily.
    Could you share the type of glue you used for the leather?
    Since I do a lot of woodwork and refinishing, let me pass on some info to you. I think the wood on your bag would look better and not get staining from use, if you finished it off with:
    1. Coat liberally with Watco Danish Oil (follow label). Let dry overnight.
    2. Thin out Varathane Polyurethane Oil Based Clear Interior Satin (30%) with Mineral Spirits (70%) and put 2-3 coats on oiled wood, sanding with 400 grit in between. Make sure you have no bubbles in the Poly finish. Make sure you wipe lightly after 30 mins of application to even out the layers.
    You will find that the Poly makes the wood durable and stain resistant, and gives a nice finish. I generally use a Satin not Gloss but that is your preference. You can also dye the wood prior to oiling and Poly coats, with some fun colors like Vintage Turquoise/ Aqua, or Red, or Green to match or contrast with the leather colors.
    Thanks for a great video and good luck with your projects. These are good enough to sell!

    buy a thicker leather next time, make sure you burnish the edges, treat it properly and give it a nice dye. Pretty sure you can get pink or anything else in a good quality oil based product which will give you the best results. And always ALWAYS remember to apply with sheep woll scraps or wool daubers

    okay ... this is a bit random, but when did a nut become a 'hex nut' ? I've noticed this neologism on several maker channels. A nut is hexagonal... 1920ish to...2017? (this is a genuine question)

    • @oldnubbins8060
      @oldnubbins8060 6 років тому

      Ever since it needed to be distinguished from wing, lock, flange, cap, jam, square, tee, castle, slotted, acorn, and heavy hex nuts (probably missed a few).

    • @blainemarquise
      @blainemarquise 6 років тому

      I can't say exactly when the commonly used term changed, but there are a bunch of different kinds of nuts, some of which aren't hexagonal. Like square nuts, or t-nuts, for example.
