My husband's step dad got to work on his house in 1979 (not this one). Rick gave him 4 tickets to come to their concert so that's how my husband got to see the band live. That's what kind of down to earth person Rick really is.
Used to run into Rick when I was a teenager back in the 70's at Cherryvale Mall in Rockford. He would be out shopping with his kids, dressed like he was going to a concert, and would stop and talk to anyone like he was just an average guy. Money and fame never seemed to have gone to his head.
Saw the band play. Saw many, many concerts in the day. The most memorable performance of them all. The band that got the crowd CRAZY was Cheap Trick. Never, ever had as much fun at any concert. Amazing showmanship like none in have ever seen.
they are impressive live. Most memorable show in 1988. Drought year but that night was the only time all summer that it rained. It rained so hard and the wind... We were in the center of the pavilion and got wet. Water was pouring down the aisles. Drunk ppl on the hill were sliding down the aisles. Lost power. Rick, being the clown that he is, stepped to the mic when power was resumed and said 'F___ the storm!'
I totally get it. Rick's home is soulful and comforting, a perfect escape from the crazy rock 'n' roll life. And although Karen is uber pretty, she seems down to earth, humble, and kind-natured; a comforting soul to come home to after the crazy R'n'R life. Rick enjoys balance. And that's rare for most of us, especially in his industry.
You all should see Rick's collection of guitars. He has a million of them. Rick is so down to earth. What a super nice guy. Happy for all the success he and Cheap Trick have.
“We kept thinking the lamp was too expensive, then we said let’s just get it! Sure enough, when we went back to Ross, there it was in the bargain bin.”
Rick and his beautiful wife are an awesome testimony to the commitment to their love. I have such respect for them along with Alice Cooper and his beautiful wife. 30+:years is fantastic. God bless this couple.
I saw Cheap Trick at the NYS fair a few years ago. Rick was very cool. He asked some children to come up on stage and speak to the crowd. He played he assortment of cool guitars as usual. Good show!
Thanks Rick For All Ur Great Hard work. U ROCK AND ALWAYS WILL!!! So Happy for you and your wife with such a beautiful home. You guys deserve it. You ve worked hard. God bless.
The work of a couple that their ideas/ thoughts put in the home for themselves not us some of decor unique love the kitchen and stain glass hall, the lamp awesome! What where your expectations 300 guitars 1'000 of concert photos! As the The Rick Nielsen museum! The word is harmony of the couple in the town b 4 Rockford Illinois! LoL! Thanks Rick n Karen for sharing your home!
Absolutely love Rick and Cheap Trick. So happy they were finally recognized with their contribution to music with the induction to the RRHOF .. BUT .. OMG what garish decorating .. sorry .. terrible taste ..
If they like it, that is all that matters. Their taste may not be everyone else's, but that's why these shows are made. Imagine the TV people going to everyone's house and the owners saying "Well, I wanted everything to be beige".
I’m going to see Cheap Trick this Wednesday in Great Falls Montana , 8/3/22 , mostly because they are the best fucking rock band :) and their new album rocks .
It was nice of Rick and his wife to share their home. I grew up in Rockford and passing by the house and that area is kind of like a mystery. You can’t really see much from the road so it was interesting to get a peak. I don’t get into some of their choices, but I do like the overall romantic feel. Rather then criticize as dumb people would do Im just thankful for people who aren’t our for popularity and being trendy but instead have a soulful and romantic relation to life. Makes sense that such thoughtful romantic people would be married all these years. Rick is one of the truly gifted and entertaining rockers of all time along with Cheap Trick.
This video must be pretty old/dated. Lol! Love Rick. Very cool dude. And AWESOME guitars! Much of his guitar collection on display at a Rockford museum until the spring. Just visited last month, and Rick stopped by himself to chat for a bit. Very cool!
I worked at an estate sale right next door to his house a few years ago. VERY nice neighborhood. Nice people around there, too.Yea - Rockford is Northwest of Chicago. About 20 miles south of the Illinois/Wisconsin border.
One of the best that's come out of Rockford, Cheap Trick. We actually DO have some fine contributions. These were our guys, especially in school. We drove to Dane County in a snowstorm with one headlight to see them. We did NOT get home in THAT car lol.😉🤘🤯
I love the fact that this is all about how old everything is, and it's from the turn of the century 😂🤣😂😂 God bless Rick and family, from the vast future of 2023!! Rock on....
I still have many old buildings in my hometown including some old school buildings with original pressed tin ceilings, some are still exposed some are hidden under a more modern ceiling with the tin underneath completely baffles me, strip off the paint and they are beautiful, never see that kind of craftsmanship anymore.
A house should represent the owners. Traditional design is reflects many eras. I like this house, because English Cottage design is timeless. Doing it once the way you like it, is better than doing it over and over. Thanks for sharing your house.
I first saw Cheap Trick at a bar in Madison, Wisconsin, somewhere around 1977 -78, before they hit the big time. I don't remember the name of the bar, but it was downtown, maybe on University Ave. or State street. They performed on a stage and there were maybe 50 to 80 spectators there. I could just tell they were going places. I was a UW-Madison student at the time.
Wouldn't surprise me to find out that this really wasn't Rick's house. He's been known to pull off a few pretty complicated practical jokes on people...
Jip! I only watched this cuz I wanted to see a room of 68 guitars, like I saw in Guitar World when I was a kid. He had millions of guitars, incl his customer Hamer, 6-headed, checkered monster! lame not showing Rick's jam-room, studio or equipment
Doesn't he have a house in Vegas too? Just thought I heard that. I don't like the big flower drapes & the tim ceiling tiles but that's me ... I thought it looked like it was from the 80's ... I had to double check the date... no worries I love Cheap Trick no matter how many hours outside of Chicago
Love the table!!! They say they couldnt afford the lamp? Are you kidding me? Saved 10%?? Is Rick Jewish? The low ceiling and thick curtains that block out all light...I would feel like I was living in a box. I am claustrophobic and there is NO way I could live in this box/house.
dude..no frikn way..that has got to be the coolest thing for a house..Rick Nielsens house anyway..a frikn checkerboard roof...bet it looks cool as hell..sure would've like to seen it...snow...you suck...))
dax told me when he was a kid, whenever he got into trouble and was punished, his parents would make him sit in the loving room and look at those curtains,,,lol
I could stand to live there! Maybe a little more sun shining in, a little more light, but you obviously see their taste in decorating throughout the house. Not too much bigger than my 986 square foot house LOL!!!
I thought his residence was closer to Anderson Japanese Garden by the river. I have been that area a few times. Nice area in the woods. But the downtown Rockford was a kind of rundown hood.
I expected Count Dracula to jump out.the prettiest thing in the house,is that Beautiful white feline walking around.luv ya Rick,Big fan for over 40 years.
My husband's step dad got to work on his house in 1979 (not this one). Rick gave him 4 tickets to come to their concert so that's how my husband got to see the band live. That's what kind of down to earth person Rick really is.
met him at a hotel about 30 yrs ago....super nice guy, and was very friendly. Told him I was a fan, and he thanked me for it..
seriously, everybody who is ripping on his house. The man lives in Rockford, IL is proud of it and has never left. So don't expect Beverly Hills.
People actually being critical about Rick and Karen's home?
It's beautiful, and family is most important - isn't that true for everyone?
It doesn't matter if we like it, it's their home... Thank you for sharing it with us...
Used to run into Rick when I was a teenager back in the 70's at Cherryvale Mall in Rockford. He would be out shopping with his kids, dressed like he was going to a concert, and would stop and talk to anyone like he was just an average guy. Money and fame never seemed to have gone to his head.
To each his own. Not my taste but clearly they have alot of love and respect for each other, which is what makes a house a home.
Rick is a unique individual, and a worldwide superstar beloved by everyone in the rock music scene. A super solid and talented man who got it right.
Saw the band play.
Saw many, many concerts in the day.
The most memorable performance of them all. The band that got the crowd CRAZY was Cheap Trick.

I met Rick in the early 80's at a party. Very humble and personal guy.

I didn't know Rick joined The Clash. That house! Love ya Rick!
I've been a fan from the begining. Love this dude!
Nice to see a wealthy rock star living relatively modestly. That's a rarity. Most flaunt their wealth.
The Verbally Abusive Clown that's Rockford for ya.
I don’t think he is that wealthy compared to mega stars like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen , or Elton John.
Dude spent all his money on guitars lol
Eclectic Rick. Nice of them to share their home.
What can you say. Great song writer, singer, guitarist. Cool house, and a pretty wife. I have always loved Cheap Trick.
Too cool and cute Karen Nielsen absolutely darling and Rick very cool guy
🤘🤘 🎸 🎸

A perfect house for the visually impaired.
you are savage. But you're also not wrong.
I can't help but notice that there's a checkerboard plate on one of the tables. I guess Rick had to get his trademark in somwhere.
Freemasonry.
Absolutely love Rick and Cheap Trick. So happy they were finally recognized with their contribution to music with the induction to the RRHOF .. BUT .. OMG what garish decorating .. sorry .. terrible taste ..
Thank you Rick... I loved your show back in the 70’s.
🤘🤘 🎸 🎸
If they like it, that is all that matters.
Their taste may not be everyone else's, but that's why these shows are made. Imagine the TV people going to everyone's house and the owners saying "Well, I wanted everything to be beige".
Well said. To each his own. They gotta pay and live there. That's a hometown boy.🤘😉💜
Wow. I love Rick's work. He's amazingly talented. The house--how could the host use phrases like "a bit eclectic" for such a trainwreck? Wow.
definitely like their music more than his house
Nice people, but the house looks like garage sale meets salvation army.
my mother would've used the word "gaudy"....and she had crushed gold velvet furniture with slip-covers. It's pretty busy to say the least.
Too stuffy and claustrophobic for me!
Wife gone wild interior decorating. "Yes Dear, thats nice, Dear" o.m.g
What a stand up dude. Congrats on your RRHOF nod.
I’m going to see Cheap Trick this Wednesday in Great Falls Montana , 8/3/22 , mostly because they are the best fucking rock band :) and their new album rocks .
Enjoy the show John!
Very classy and unique! Thanks for sharing Nielsens!

What a beautiful ❤️ home my God Sweet!!
Rockford is two hours south of Chicago??? That’s news to me!
thrasherx2k1 when non Illinois people think of Illinois they think it’s only Chicago.she explained to a national audience
Almost directly west . I'm from Decatur a few hours south. Love Cheap Trick. Up there with Van Halen to me.
Not that it matters, it’s about 2 hours west not south
Haha! Right. I live right down the street from Rick and we are definitely not 2 hours south of Chicago. More like 90min NW.
Rockford is about an hour and a half northwest of Chicago. I’m from Rockford
Rockford is NOT 2 hours south of CHICAGO. It's on the WISCONSIN BORDER and hour NW of Chicago.
The outside looks like a funeral parlor or 1970s supper club. Inside is pretty garish. 'A designer would probably cringe' is right.
This video must be pretty old/dated. Lol! Love Rick. Very cool dude. And AWESOME guitars! Much of his guitar collection on display at a Rockford museum until the spring. Just visited last month, and Rick stopped by himself to chat for a bit. Very cool!
I don't get how tranquility and beauty are reflected in this house. OMG the colors, those curtains and that lamp at 4:25. Ick!
It's not 2 hours south of Chicago. It's northwest!
Love Cheap Trick. This house seems dark--a little gloomy?
I worked at an estate sale right next door to his house a few years ago. VERY nice neighborhood. Nice people around there, too.Yea - Rockford is Northwest of Chicago. About 20 miles south of the Illinois/Wisconsin border.
It looks like Rick Nielsen's sense of style went out the window when Cheap Trick came together in the 1970's
Love the ceilings, floors, *fireplace** (wow)... just about everything but the patterns & prints on the walls & stuff.
Looks welcoming
🤘🤘 🎸 🎸
@@brittdanielrocks Meow!
This may have been ok in the 80's but all those floral fabrics, wallpaper borders, ruffles and stained glass give me anxiety.
Flowers give you anxiety?? Your life must suck
It's not the worst house. Alot of it's really cool. Glad they like it.
I can't say how much I admire Rick and his abilities, but I do have to say... that's the ugliest damn interior I've ever seen in a house. DANG...
One of the best that's come out of Rockford, Cheap Trick. We actually DO have some fine contributions. These were our guys, especially in school. We drove to Dane County in a snowstorm with one headlight to see them. We did NOT get home in THAT car lol.😉🤘🤯
🤘🤘 🎸 🎸
I love Rick and the band very, very much. The house, though...I'm not so sure. Is it just me or is the décor hideous on an Olympic level?
I love the fact that this is all about how old everything is, and it's from the turn of the century 😂🤣😂😂
God bless Rick and family, from the vast future of 2023!!
Rock on....
In the master bedrooms closet is where they keep the dream police.
I still have many old buildings in my hometown including some old school buildings with original pressed tin ceilings, some are still exposed some are hidden under a more modern ceiling with the tin underneath completely baffles me, strip off the paint and they are beautiful, never see that kind of craftsmanship anymore.
Love it!
Not for me, but fantastic for them to not give a F what anyone else thinks and do their own thing
A house should represent the owners. Traditional design is reflects many eras. I like this house, because English Cottage design is timeless. Doing it once the way you like it, is better than doing it over and over. Thanks for sharing your house.

It was probably Dewey's.
It's really classy. I wish I lived in that house.
People in two bedroom apartments trying to critique Rick’s million dollar home…. f**king hilarious.
Dimebag Darrell's house in Dalworthington Gardens, Texas is really decorated crazy. I love the Nielson's home.
Rockford is not 2 hours south of Chicago! I'm from Northern Illinois. Rockford is West of Chicago on the Wisconsin Border.
she was reading the map sideways.
NW of Chi-Raq
Exactly. I live down the street from Rick and have been in that house. We are definitely NW and about 90 min.
Rick is awesome
I'd like to see a update of this, I'm sure it's decorated differently now.
I live in Rockford. It's approx 90 miles and about 1 1/2 hrs and from here you would be heading east!
Rockford isn't SOUTH of Chicago! It's NorthWest from Chi, right on the Wisconsin border.
My grandparents live about 15 minutes from his old home, in Rockford Illinois.
As long as they like it....... personally, I think it is hideous.
Wouldn't surprise me to find out that this really wasn't Rick's house. He's been known to pull off a few pretty complicated practical jokes on people...
I say burn it down and start over! Long live Cheap Trick!
Jip! I only watched this cuz I wanted to see a room of 68 guitars, like I saw in Guitar World when I was a kid. He had millions of guitars, incl his customer Hamer, 6-headed, checkered monster! lame not showing Rick's jam-room, studio or equipment

I like the ceiling. It gives a kind of vibe.
Omg i could not live in a place like that,it looks like grannys house,,gawdy
next time I go to IL. I would love to meet you.. I "m an aquaaintance of the Bodeans.. Was in band with Bob's Brother Ronny
Good job Rick Nielson! YOu deserve all the best! I been throwing money your way since Budokan ;)
BTW the outside roof of the house is black & white checkerboard.
dude..no frikn way..that has got to be the coolest thing for a house..Rick Nielsens house anyway..a frikn checkerboard roof...bet it looks cool as hell..sure would've like to seen it...snow...you suck...))
Is that living room one huge curtain with some ill-proportioned furniture strung about?
Somehow this reminds me of Graceland...
This is beautiful. I wonder if it still looks like that. I'd like to think as timeless as it was, it still is.
🤘🤘 🎸 🎸
Ricks wife give the home beauty
Exactly. If your wife is that pretty, who cares what the house looks like?
Man oh Man, love his music. His interior decorating....?
thanks for saving me 5 minutes...thats what i was looking fot too
I wanna see his guitars too...what the fuck!?!?
He's also known for having some of the most incredible guitars
This looks really 90's. lol
Horrible comments below. It is their home can't you just say it is different and unusual? No respect whatsoever.
Agree K Marie. If they are happy there and that is what they want, then that is all that matters. Everyone has their own personal taste.
dax told me when he was a kid, whenever he got into trouble and was punished, his parents would make him sit in the loving room and look at those curtains,,,lol
Hurt my eyes
Love the checkerboard dish in the dining room.
It looks like a cheap motel Rick. You need a remodel stat.
This is at least 15 years old. Very unlikely they're in the same home with the same interior.
lets see your place....
Apparently Garegh62 does not like negative opinions of Rick's home.He attacked me too.
I could stand to live there! Maybe a little more sun shining in, a little more light, but you obviously see their taste in decorating throughout the house. Not too much bigger than my 986 square foot house LOL!!!
The early eighties called..time to update that house!
I thought his residence was closer to Anderson Japanese Garden by the river. I have been that area a few times. Nice area in the woods. But the downtown Rockford was a kind of rundown hood.
Rockford is not south of Chicago.. it’s NW of Chicago...
To each his own..whatever 'Rocks' your boat dude!
If the house still looks like that today, Mike and Frank would be all over that house for some tasty picking.
Well, this is interesting. I like Rick and Karen is a beautiful lady.
I expected Count Dracula to jump out.the prettiest thing in the house,is that Beautiful white feline walking around.luv ya Rick,Big fan for over 40 years.
Adams Family comes to mind.
Rockford, Illinois is an hour west of Chicago, not 2 hours south...
Really. How hard is it to look at a map before reading the script?
It all depends upon how much you've had to drink.
I noticed that mistake right away, too since I live in Rockford. It made me cringe.
