I was driving my car when i heard on the radio he had died, i pulled over and unashamedly cried. Kurt was just 2 years older than me. For those not of my X Generation you must understand; Kurt Cobain was the voice of our generation, with all its angst and apathetic mindset. After half a decade of hair bands and fluff his music was stripped emotion with a raw, angry, pulsing heart behind that gravel voice. He was our Elvis. He was our Lennon. He was our Tupac. Part of us died with that shotgun blast in April 1994, and our world forever changed. Now, watching this, maybe you can begin to see why.
I was ALMOST 13 when it happened.. although I'm a gen Y, kurt still sang MY ANGST, PAIN AND FRUSTRATIONS.. you're so right when you say he was THE voice of an entire generation!! Now, older than Kurt was, with 2 teen girls.. they too love MY 90s grunge.. he is still touching lives with that voice! #RipKurtCobain
I was 14 years old. I was washing dishes. My bff called me and told me. I SOBBED. Even though I was an emotional teen at the time, I think I would cry the same today.
Yeah I was in my freshman year of college. I also heard in car radio. I was in dorm parking lot.
I was in disbelief for a while. Like they made a mistake. Just another incident like the previous one. He will be reported okay soon.
😔
i wasn’t alive sadge
I was 9, and it broke my heart. My brother had just introduced me to Nirvana when Nevermind released, and I was in love. They're still my favorite band to this day, and I'll always listen to them more than is healthy.
I wonder what the music world would be like if Kurt were still alive. Thankfully we've still got Dave and Pat doing Foo Fighters (but that's nowhere near the same), and Krist doing his thing.
Nirvana unplugged is one of the greatest albums of all time
I 2nd that! 😁
Yes,a great album,Kurt a great singer
No doubt on that one.
Fun fyi: He laughed at someone wanting to sell him Leadbelly's guitar for $500k while the one he is holding just sold at auction for $6M!
Makes wonder if David wishes he bought the Guitar for Kurt
Kurts shirt sold for 334000 so his shirt would almost paid for that
I know! I read that in the news a few weeks ago and the first thing that came to mind was how he joked here about Leadbelly's guitar, and now his own Martin sold for 13 times that amount, which is a lot more even if you adjust it for inflation.
That is actually a great little fact, thanks :)
Just a little over 8 mil actually in total lol
He was told not to sound too raspy or to scream. He waited until the last song to become a legend. ❤
Oh you've got to watch the whole concert, one of the most important in history
they only agreed to perform on MTV live... if they were allowed to not play a single billboard hit and just do their 'B-sides'.... pure legends
@@robertrijkers4923 and mostly covers
And they did it all in one take. 😮. It was actually common for the artists prior to them to do multiple attempts on songs.
The whole concert is available on UA-cam. It's legendary.
Top 3 most important concerts in HISTORY! and FIRST MTV Unplugged! Long live Nirvana... Kurt's voice will sing on forever..
R.I.P. Kurt
Murdered
He's dead? WTF? Covid?
@@jankowalski6338 ask Courtney or Bob Grant
@@beltrandalenjr. I know people like them they might say they killed him to cover for the virus.
@@jankowalski6338 yeah 🤘
Fun Fact: The song was written in the 1870's or earlier and was covered and recorded by the famous Black Blues musician Leadbelly in the 1940's which is what Kurt was talking about before the performance.
For real, I thought that was a Leadbelly original, nice.
Oh damn I didn’t know it was an old song carried by led belly. That makes sense though as blues musicians did that regularly
leadbelly changed the arrangement and lyrics to the song In The Pines... the first recording was in the 1800's but not by the original artist (who is unknown)
Yes, its an old Bluegrass song. Bill Monroe and Ralph & Carter Stanley covered it.
ua-cam.com/video/qxI4sb486pA/v-deo.html
My Granny used to sing it. Leadbelly heard it and changed the lyrics. I like his lyrics better, and Kurt gave it a wonderful modern interpretation. Just shows how music evolves.
Yeah, and Mark Lanegan did a cover too, before Kurt! It's really incredible how each made their own interpretation of an old and mysterious song.
Love that song. Still gives me goosebumps
I've listened to this song a million times..and still goosebumps!
@@Latabrine EVERY single time..
Those eyes from Kurt....probably the BEST performance you could react to. Nice.
Chills every time.
You have high empathy. You feel sad when you hear Kurt's hysterical screams. thanks for that!
He was an amazing performer, and he was a really great person. That moment at the end when he looks up, the look in his eyes gives me chills every time.
He almost passed out after all the belting and had to take a breath. He sang the crap out of that.
That breath (6:33)...
He was so gorgeous.
Such a bone-chilling song and performance, so sad we lost Kurt so young, so grateful he gave us his soul while he was here and grateful to UA-camrs like you who are reacting to these songs that mean so much to so many of us. Keep it up.
Your face was priceless when he started screaming
Felix Melendez major feels
Singing. Thats Kurt singing with emotion. Not yelling. No one yells that beautifully lol.
The shift in tone towards the end I always saw it his heart changing from heartbreak into rage.
It’s a very Pisces rendition of Leadbelly’s song. The lows and highs of an age old story. Beautiful but haunted expression. No one expects the quiet power that comes from pain.
Absolutely. Thinking of that disembodied head
Feels far more like rage/despair more than rage.
Probably the most chilling, emotional, and thought provoking performance of all time.
I was a senior in HS when Kurt took his life, and it F'in sucked and hurt. He was our rock legend that went too damn soon, like so many beforehand. Such a talented yet tormented soul.
Look into it Courtney love killed him an wrote the last paragraph the shotgun an needle had no finger prints an she was fighting Dave grohl to get the band name for the royalties
I want to visit US and Seattle, Aberdeen, Tacoma,...one day, because of Kurt Cobain & Nirvana
i feel you, i was a freshman when that happened and it hit my friend so hard he just walked off the school campus and went home
I was 19. Absolutely broke me.
@@VendPrekmurec Tacoma and Aberdeen are shite holes that look nothing like what they did when Kurt was young. Don't even bother, that's my advice.
Love how youre about to cry and then he starts rage screaming in an acoustic song and you freak out
You picked a great one to react to. Live nirvana is something else.
Nice that Kurt would pay homage to Leadbelly, come to think of it, Kurt lived the blues
Nirvana was my first alternative album when 11 years old (a Christmas gift from my now late brother). I was 14 years old, home sick from school, the day Kurt died. As sick was I was, my parents couldn't pull me away from the tv reports.
The has caught me in soooo many feelings right now.
So young, so talented ! What a pity he is gone !
When you hear a voice without autotune...
The concert that almost never happened. Iconic. Moving. And any other description you can find. I will always idolize kurt. Not only was he an amazing musician, But he was a loving father, husband, friend, and was taken way too soon. He never got so see how his music impacted and changed the world. R.I.P. Kurt.
He did such a great job covering this song! Such talent, R.I.P Kurt!
R.I.P Kurt
Missed by all
You really need to pay some attention to Leadbelly. He and Robert Johnson are the wellspring that everyone drew from. He is part of the American heritage.
The man who sold his soul! Beaitiful guitar, true roots, amazing legacy!
I agree, Sully. Leadbelly and Robert Johnson. Amazing musicians. They are the influences of all modern music, really.
So happy to see someone mention Robert Johnson. Love him.
The Delta Blues masters indeed
Johnson's story is amazing. There's a great flick about him on Netflix.
LOVED your reaction.
"He definitely went out with a bang."
*winces*
That was a REALLY unfortunate turn of phrase. Four months later, he was dead from a (supposedly) self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
I thought that as well, I was like oh crap
Nirvana and Alice in chains unplugged are 2 of the most iconic performances ever. It kills me that they're both gone bc of heroin
Nirvana yes. Alice in chains definitely was not iconic. But nirvana transcended grundge music
@@M3333C layne Staley had the best vocals ever extremely underrated I would even put him above Freddie mercury
kurt was murdered
You’re right his voice was very very powerful. In his prime before drug addiction and his health problems it was even stronger that what you watched here. Enjoyed your video.
"His voice is really good". That's Kurt Cobain, your damn right he has a good voice
Nirvana had a lot of great songs Kurt was one of the greatest of all time R.I.P Kurt
Classic performance. The entire concert. Just Legendary.
Unplugged was a show on MTV back in the 90’s where bands would come on and perform “unplugged” instruments. It really showed how talented a band was without any lip syncing. This was one of the Greatest episodes! You made me tear up, when you saw the end and how Kurt was signing autographs because I wish you could experience the time and the music it was magical!
The Unplugged show was amazing! The Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the George Michael ones are the BEST ones. Much love🤘🏼
i loved Alice In Chains
Aic was amazing too
Alice In Chains is some extraterrestrial shit bro. Layne wasn’t even present on earth that night and fucking killed.
Yeah right. AIC was definitely the best followed by pearl jam and then maybe Nirvana.
Music is beautiful I love how it can cross cultures and boundaries. When it's good it can't be denied.
And then he was gone... for ever. R.I.P. Kurt
I am from Portugal born 79”
when I heard it on the radio I was in shock, I couldn't believe it !!!
His voice was so underrated so powerful yet so calm r.i.p Mr cobain
Kurt we miss you so much!!!
The primal scream at the end, you know he was just channeling something...
"He definitely went out with a bang"... I know you didn't know, but damn!
I remember explaining to my friend, who listened only to folk music in the 90's, the Nirvana and Kurtz voice. He's didn't understand until he listened to it. Now he's a hardcore Nirvana fan.
He was already shutting down here emotionally
One of the best MTV unplugged
I wish I could have hugged that man, and told him how much he, Dave, and Krist meant to a generation of people trying to find their way. Nirvana, we love you.
Best performance of that song ever & I grew up with my pawpaw singing that song to me! Its because of the pain in his voice from his life! 💜🤟 LOVE YA KURT!!😇🙏
2023 and still the most honest interpretation of Leadbelly's country/blues classic I've ever heard.......
I was all like wait for it because I know Nirvana LOL. When Kurt has his high notes he had so much control and so much range he made people envious.
His voice was a changing point!!!
Geffen should've bought Kurt the guitar. Even though he would've only had it for a few months😔. He earned enough money off of Kurt and Nirvana.
Yeah, although Francis might have given that one away too...
@@jenfine Probably🙄
Or history could have completely changed 🤷🏻♂️
Love this whole album... One of my favorites and it’s amazing... This is another MTV Unplugged albums that all music lovers should own... R.I.P. Kurt
The most eerie part I’ve seen is the VH1 Rockumentary on this. Kurt died not long after this recording, but the producer gives a chilling recollection of having to edit it for tv and the UnPlugged album, with Kurt gone, and seeing the pain and torture in his eyes and voice was much more magnified in hindsight. Look it up. They almost didn’t finish the documentary because it was so hard and they weren’t sure if it was the right thing to do but ultimately it gave the best homage and tribute possible, and showed his demons as well as pure talent to those who’d never known
Heartbreaking. This kills me everytime. A hero of mine. This song actually makes my cry. His passing genuinely hurts my heart.
Your reaction is beautiful.
On of our brilliant musicians!! RIP
This and Plateau are my favorite Nirvana songs
Kurt was the reluctant voice of generation and movement in culture.... His impact on many can't be understated... One of the greatest of all time...
I couldn't wait until you got to him screaming. As soon as I saw how you felt about it, I was ready to get to that.
This whole show/performance was legendary
I compare his voice to a Ferrari's engine, it purrs with the same power
Great symbolism there.
I used tohave the whole CD and DVD of the of the show.. the whole show is so great.. my favorite is when he sang the man who sold the world
JAYY: He's got a real nice voice
Dallas Green: laughs in mythic legendary angelic of the highest heavens
When we knew this time Kurt was gone & not coming back due to Kurt’s pause, eyes closed, deep breath out, eyes opened, goodbye....🥺
Every Nirvana fan had this discussion the next day at school, some us were even crying....😥
Queen’s “These Are the Days of Our Lives” & Nirvana’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” from MTV’s Unplugged, are the first two times I have seen someone saying bye forever....👋
He knows he is dying inside.
"..........shiver for me......."
MTV unplugged really showcased people's talent
I loved watching the emotion in your face very powerful song
Omg, I love your reactions. So pure, so real and genuine!
Every girl after listening to that song: Not so innocent anymore
RIP Kurt song still gives me the feels!
Kurt is an angel for sure...
Nirvana are fantastic!!
The greatest unplugged ever ..... bar none
I am IN LOVE with her reaction to this song. Absolutely in love with the way she reacted to this!!! This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of her videos and not the last!!
My absolute fav!! Thanks for reacting to it!!
Kurt Cobain was one in a lifetime. Such an amazing vocalist and guitarist. Spent my teenage years growing up on Nirvana. Love your reaction. Jump scared by a dead dude
Kurt was just so special, his death at 27 devastating...gone but never forgotten.
I am loving another sister listening to what I like. ❤❤❤
I saw that when it aired on mtv. I’m 39. Miss you Kurt. You were the voice of my generation. Thank you. Great vid
Remember watching this live. Must be old. Missen him
Reveals the true power of Cobain's voice
May be my favorite Album/performance they did. Glad to see people out there still stumbling onto gems like this- Thx!
When this first aired I was 12 and my mom came from the kitchen with wet hands to tell me “what is that? turn that up” you felt that shit she felt 😊
One of the few songs I like by Nirvana...
It's funny that he mentioned Lead Bellys guitar going for 500k when the sweater he wore during this just sold for a shit ton.
His guitar sounds amazing
It’s so amazing to see someone’s reaction to something I love. God bless you!
hahaaaa....very cool! What you are displaying is pretty much how I felt when I first saw and listened to this version of this song. Great job young lady!!!
Lead Belly was such a legendary blues man
Such raw talent.. So sad we lost him..
Did we lose him or was he taken...
No auto tune. No UA-cam. No Netflix. Politicians listened before speaking. You knew to run home when the streetlights came on. Drank from the hose, not plastic bottles. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always present, even if they consisted of the same ingredients. That’s how I grew up. So did he. Grunge was the last great music generation/genre.
Great vid Kurt was a legend. Another good song to listen to is down in a whole unplugged by Alice In chains
And Stone Temple Pilots unplugged.
@@buster3448 indeed my friend
Nirvana is pure magic, kids. Discover. Enjoy. They don't make em like that anymore.
I watched this when it first aired, I think late 1993. This song was the perfect ending. His voice, the sigh and blank stare briefly at the end. Just amazing.
R.I.P. Kurt, We love and miss you!! We wish you were here😢😭
R.I.P. Kurt. You spoke to my soul when I was a teen and your voice will always bring me back
Love you Kurt..Thank you for the help
he did go out with a bang.. 😂😭
That voice😍😍😍😍😍
Always love listening to this. Kurt really does it justice. It's nice to think that music hero's have their hero's too
Ok now I subscribed coz you have good taste of music ! Now I have to go back and watch all your reactions lol 😁💯
