I attended a MET rehearsal for LUISA MILLER with Bergonzi as late as 1988. This was a tenor role that suited him especially well in his vocal prime & the 1964 studio recording demonstrates this. He sounded pretty good in the 1988 rehearsal & also by this time he had put away a large portion of his repertoire. I was not able to watch any of his subsequent LUISA MILLER performances but was pleased to hear his masterful stylistic singing of the great tenor aria QUANDO LE SERE AL PLÁCIDO in rehearsal without marking. His interpretations of this aria, throughout his career, remains one of the greatest in my experience.

Grande e innolvidable Carlo Bergonzi, mile grazie maestro!!
very beautiful to listen to! it is such a sweet atmosphere, what the piano and a magnificent voice can create! I was hooked from the very first aria.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The first piece warmed the voice !thank you 😊
One of the greatest singers in the history of singing!

Why is the first song so fast?
Il Corsaro è cantato con meno sicurezza...tuttavia sempre meglio degli pseudi tenori odierni...
