Saint Bernadette's relic is 25 miles from my home Today. July 14, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. This morning when I got up I noticed when I turned my fan around St. Bernadettes picture was exposed under a Sacred photo of Our Blessed LORD. The LORD's picture flew off the table leaving Saint Bernadettes Pilgrams guide exposed. I picked up then to realize she was near my Heart. Saint Bernadette Pray for Us.
The lecture is historically accurate in general, although the speaker mispronounces "Bartres." The photo was taken when Bernadette was 18 (if memory serves). There are no photographs from the year of the apparitions (when she was 14), although a local artist made several paintings of her. There are indications that something unsettling happened in Bartres. She may have been mistreated in some way by Marie Lagues (previously her wet nurse) or her husband. Zola hinted that he suspected some sort of attempted sexual interference, though we can never know for sure. I'm surprised that the speaker didn't mention Pigou, Bernadette's sheepdog. The speaker says that only one sibling visited Bernadette at Nevers. He's referring to her brother, who was a pretty interesting character in his own right. But just before her death, Bernadette also received a visit from her sister Marie (born Marie-Antoinette, called Toinette in childhood). She had always resented Bernadette's status as first-born and thus had a difficult relationship with her elder sister, and Bernadette was angry with her for opening a shop that sold religious items. (Bernadette always despised any any hint of commercialism.) Marie went to Nevers to reconcile their differences. Bernadette, however, was unable to communicate with her, so the reconciliation didn't really occur. However, on the day of her death, Bernadette was able to speak with those around her.
@@adambeasley2706 Well, if you want to become a hard core Bernadetologist, your best starting place is Therese Taylor's bio, followed by Trochu's magisterial, detailed-filled hagiography. You'll also want Estrade's "I was there" memoire, which is now pretty easy to find on the internet; it's the only book written by someone who knew her before "it" happened. If your French is up to it, seek out Laurentin's multi-volume work published in the 1950s. You'll also want Laurentin's "Visage de Bernadette" which collects every photo and contemporary painting. And finally, if you've become a hopeless Bernadette junkie, you will seek out the work of Leonard Cros, the Jesuit scholar tasked with recording every moment and every molecule of her existence. Cros was a priest, but it's pretty clear that he was in love with her. It's cute.
