What is a good alternative to swapping it to a larger container. I currently don't have the space for a wider container, would pruning of the roots and or leaves be a viable option?

Getting it into the ground is best, with a larger container being second to that...but if you can't do either of those then trimming back the foliage would help reduce the consumption of moisture by controlling how big the plant gets.

I thought that Morning Glories were annuals. Also, can I plop some seed in now in August and have a few flowers before the frost? I live in zone 4b southern Minnesota. Thanks.

Depends on the hardiness of the particular morning glory but most are perennials. Your best bet with the seeds would be to start them in the spring and transplant into the ground.

      Yes to annuals.
No to planting in August and hoping for flowers by fall
Morning glories are diurnal flowering plants and need a certain amount of daylight to evening ratio of light/dark that spring gives them...
To go into bloom at all.
Otherwise you'll end up w all LEAVES. AND NO FLOWERS ALL SEASON LONG 😎😎😎🔥🙇‍♀️🙏🏼💜💕❤️💞💫

@@zoezzzarko1117thank you for this breakdown reasoning. I am new to growing plants and doing what’s best for them so i would like to learn how to intentionally grow things instead of having to leave it to chance that I get morning glory plants. Are morning glory plants like strawberries in the way that they can grow in the wild without there being any other morning glory plants in the area?? Thank you for the help. I will subscribe since it looks like helpful advice is available with this channel. Have a great day, guys!❤

@@telisah9611 annual morning glory, Annual morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea)
(the kind w the large beautiful flowers and comes in many diff colors)... will come back from seed only... in the colder climates of the north America
They will go to seed if you leave the vine alone all fall
You can either collect the seeds from the dried seed pods yourself ...
Or just let them fall to the ground or get transported around the flower beds in your yard by birds and animals that eat them
You have to know what the baby plants look like as they sprout in spring... otherwise you'll inadvertently weed them out of the bed
Alternatively... if you don't want them in your landscape next year ... just cut the flower heads before they go to seed (called "dead heading")
And they won't have a chance to ever go to seed
Or tear the vine down in early fall so you have less seed spread
I've never had this type of morning glory (the annual) be a problem in my yard anywhere I've ever lived
