@Sweetsam013 it's because since she was in the drivers seat and the car was swirling, it looked like she was drunk or on something, but because they found the fathers drugs, they took it as she used them if the father was in the drivers seat, they would of arrested him.

People learn, people change, people move on! The mother really wanted to make up for everything. The actress truly was amazing! One of her best performances yet!
For me , I was sexually assaulted by my father, I told my mom and she didn’t believe me. After years of trying to prove it in court, and being in foster homes and trying to work it out with her. she still signed her parental rights away and still didn’t believe me. People would tell me “oH iTs yOuR mOm etc.” I would tell them that they are idiots. My mom chose her husband over me. She made her bed and now she will forever lay in it. It’s not a mistake, it’s A CHOICE.

It was so amazing to see Nia finally reading her mom letters and knowing the true story. I am so glad that she forgive her mother. Her dad was the guilty one and her mom put in prison for something she didn’t do. The moral of the story is we can’t change the past but there’s no reason we can fix the future.

The title says "12-year-old", but Imani has been incarcerated for 10 years, since Nia was 5. So, Nia is actually 15.

I remember reading the ‘Great Gatsby’ in my high school junior year, and while I didn’t understand it even in my teens, I still loved the book. But now, after hearing Nia and Carly explaining the moral of the story, it made me realize what it was truly about.. and again… I’m so sorry for what poor Nia’s been through but I’m glad she understood what her mom had been through too, and that her no-good father was the problem, not her. This story made me cry, Dhar, well done!
