Funny thing is that boss you mention which is beside the gate I actually got to and killed without any explosives :P
I was tracking his blood got to the gates and couldn't break them it said I needed explosives, I cba to go away and come back so I thought I'd try and experiment which indeed worked
If you have already killed the V blood Bear boss from the bear cave and have bear form, the Q ability in bear form can break down the gates :D you don't actually need the explosives to get in and do it.
omg this! I was gobsmacked as i took my clan for the first time, explosives in hand and as I stood there ready to have one of them shoot the bomb this bear comes and knocks the gate over! My jaw dropped. lol
You can knock the stronghold gates down in bear form. No explosion needed

i have only found stone and copper nodes to use these explosives on... are there any iron nodes?
Yes iron is in the area to the North, unless you mean the BIG ones? I've not found any big iron that require explosives just yet
Do you think rushing to a higher tier area on a PvP server to claim a good spot is viable?
Ultimately the less travel you do the easier you'll find it, but its a balance. Closer you get to some place the further away you get from another. But you do have the teleport locations so if you build closer to high tier then you can teleport empty handed to the lower areas to kill the lower tier bosses. I found a central area more satisfying location
This is what I did and I'm doing well.
how much explosives does it take for a wood wall/door stone wall/door?
It takes 5 explosives for palisade walls, and you need a siege golem for stone :)

@@BlackoutGamingChannel you're right it has to do with raid window times, i didn't realize.
It's not clear in game you have to look in the server info pre joining
