I’m actually pretty sure that the mongols that died in a tornado was the origin of the word kamikaze because the Japanese thought that the typhoons were caused by the gods wind (heavenly winds) and thus the word was born.
Yeah, you're right about that. The Kamikaze attacks in WW2 were also famously kind of terrible but because so few pilots were returning after the tactic was used, Japanese officers didn't know how unsuccessful they were and kept doing it. The tactic pretty much only served to frighten allied soldiers but even that wasn't worth it because they lost so many pilots and planes.
No... During the 1st invasion, Mongolians died by “Strong wind” (not typhoon or tornado) Their army lost to the samurai and took a rest in Tsushima on the way to escape from Japan, where there was a big wind. (Tsushima was occupied earlier and used as a relay point) It’s same for the 2nd time except that the “Strong Wind” might have been typhoon.

Mainly because I wasn't exposed to anything from them.
It's always interesting watching younger people from Japan watch this when it gets to WW2, knowing they were allies with Nazi Germany. These days, Japan is such a huge ally and wonderful country to the world. Just interesting to watch. The bomb part always sucks. Really entertaining and education video, regardless!
@Mr. Al Holy shit TL;DR. Also Germany shouldn't have to be apologizing for WW2, let's be honest. They've more than made up for it and should actually start having some pride in their heritage again. Japan is bad in the opposite direction, but have also paid quite a bit of reparations to Korea.
@Mr. Al "Even the pilot who flew the bomber that dropped Fat Man and Little Boy was so horrified that he became entirely dedicated to rebuilding Japan in the post-war period." This is just false. Neither Charles Sweeney nor Paul Tibbets (pilots of Bockscar and the Enola Gay respectively) did anything with rebuilding Japan.
@@dunkindonuts9770 I agree. It was terrible but at the same time necessary (my grandmother was Japanese, and she was there when the bombs were dropped. Even she and her family supported that, since the war disrupted their lives). It was a good thing for Japan, too, after the fact. Now they have a huge Western fanbase because of their awesome pop culture, manga/anime, love of cuteness, etc. (Well, THAT'S how you "conquer" the world, lol. Imperial Japan had it all wrong, lol). So ironic.
8:45 im really glad bill kept this entire sequence silent, because this is a pretty serious topic. Im from america and knowing what happened here i still wont agree with the idea of dropping explosives on a civilian populace, its just wrong.
It's also important to remember that there was a catastrophic firebombing campaign that was being conducted by the allied forces on several areas throughout Japan. Higher estimates for the casualties in said campaigns put the casualties of the atomic bombs to shame, with some estimates putting the deaths at 900,000 people. Upwards of 8 million Japanese people were rendered homeless. A further several hundred thousand were injured. I don't say this to claim that using the bombs was a moral decision, however I do think that the tactics of using the bomb as a means to send a message to Emperor Hirohito that he was fighting a losing battle ended up possibly saving a further untold millions people from death and destruction.

The rape of China was far worse. I'd rather be vaporized into a shadow on the wall then be forced to watch soldiers rape my wife and kids then impale then with bayonets, before burning down my neighborhood. The moment of "yes" for Hitlers "email" was closely followed by the sobering moment of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I believe the young man has learned that "yes" during discussions of war are often followed by the same sobering reality. War is messed up.
I've watched 18-19 videos of Japanese reacting to this and all have an out of the ordinary reaction to the bomb part and this thing is only limited to Japanese... most try to justify it by saying we attacked them first and people are good at heart, some say it was over kill (no pun intended), the fact is yes it was an overkill but it was a war so it was expected... Japanese shouldn't have an inferiority complex, this was in the past so don't justify America's actions, once again what people do in wars requires little justification, they did what they did and imperial japan did what they did but don't let this turn into an inferiority complex
It was tragic, as is war in general, but I'm not so sure it was overkill. The number of casualties were comparable to conventional bombings, like the firebombing of Tokyo. The biggest difference was that it was easier to execute and didn't require as much risk to the American side. It gave the Japanese leadership, who had confidently been telling the people that Japan was winning, an excuse to surrender. Without this push it's quite likely that the war would have continued until the mainland was conquered and losses on both sides would have gone into the millions. And on the topic of lying to the people, you can argue that people aren't dumb enough to blindly trust the government and you would be right. But don't forget that Japan is very isolated. They understood that things weren't all as great as they were told but they had no idea how poorly it was actually going towards the end. My wife's grandmother worked in a bomb factory during most of the war and according to her the surrender was a complete surprise. They were even training regular people like her on absolute resistance against occupying ground forces and she now laughs about being drilled on the use of bamboo spears against people with guns.
the thing about nuke that they drop is that, at that point Japan already losing and at the verge of surrender. they are very desperate to hang on. and the bomb isnt really needed at all to seal the deal. US has an Midway operation mobilizing in pacific of which Japan launch air attack to intercept which result in kamikaze which just a suicide bomb and still can not stop USS midway from getting there. in fact the CV (carrier) is barely touch and for from unable to operate. also Yamato you know, the ship with the biggest guns in history of man kind? yeah the last order was to hold out a line until it cant and capsize itself on the beach to make it a makeshift artillery to defend that's how desperate they are at the end of the war. I still stand by the thought that its not necessary, but they do it anyway. so........ yeah..... also it rarely mentioning anywhere but US also drop another nuclear bomb on Germany, in a city that the german already retreating. let that sink in.
@Reggielacey 223 rape nanking is overkill germany and japan have equal killed people they should nuke japan more for their stupidity of conquering and making ally with the nazi

No...
During the 1st invasion, Mongolians died by “Strong wind” (not typhoon or tornado)
Their army lost to the samurai and took a rest in Tsushima on the way to escape from Japan, where there was a big wind. (Tsushima was occupied earlier and used as a relay point)
It’s same for the 2nd time except that the “Strong Wind” might have been typhoon.

@@aestheniac Your logic is profound have a great day
It's also important to remember that there was a catastrophic firebombing campaign that was being conducted by the allied forces on several areas throughout Japan.
It's so heartwarming to see someone go from "that's bullsh*t" to genuinely learning and having a good time.

Earthling reacts to "Entire History Of the World"
I remember when I saw this. I first thought this is stupid. Then I laughed hysterically.
Overkill would've been what the US was planning other than dropping 2 nukes.
the thing about nuke that they drop is that, at that point Japan already losing and at the verge of surrender. they are very desperate to hang on. and the bomb isnt really needed at all to seal the deal.
