  • Looking for an easy way to redeck your utility trailer? In this video, we share the steps we took to redeck our 5x10 foot utility trailer.
    Our trailer is a 2006 5x10 single axle open trailer. The pressure treated lumber from 2006 was starting to rot considerably. There were no through holes yet, but I didn’t want to push it any longer so I decided to redeck it.
    Keep watching to see how we got the final 2 boards in the easy way.
    We also have a written tutorial here:

    Thank you for this great video. I have watched several, but I think this is the best one I've seen. I'm doing the same things to my trailer. Another option on the paint is to buy implement paint. You can find implement paint at a hardware store or farm store. Sometimes it's called "Farm and Implement" or "Tractor and Implement" paint. It's what farmers use to paint their equipment. The paint is made to adhere to metal that has some rusty places. Wire brush the rusty places, like you said, then add the implement paint. Implement paint can be either spray paint or paint you brush on. It also helps to paint the boards on the floor and sides of the trailer, too. Black is a good color for the floor. If a person paints the boards, the boards will last longer before needing to be replaced again. Another alternative to painting would be to apply deck sealer. I suggest painting or sealing the boards every year in the fall. Thanks again for your helpful video. :)

    Even though this video is about a year old I wanted to add that you should have used something to coat your deck boards. Olympic Elite is a good choice but the deck will last twice as long if you coat the boards on all 6 sides.

    • @Backyardscape
      @Backyardscape  4 роки тому +3

      We used pressure treated pine which will last longer outdoors without having to put a finish on it. You can't put a finish on pressure treated wood until it dries, which can be 2-4 months depending on your weather and how much sun it gets. A finish will definitely help untreated boards for sure. Thanks for the comment.

      Yes, I let the wood dry a little more and then used self tapping wood to metal screws, fave.co/3POz8RL. You will need an impact driver to get through the metal, and I also predrilled with a smaller size bit since the metal was so thick.

      Hi Rick, it's not shown on the video but yes we did screw down the boards about three months later. The wood shrunk after drying. We used self tapping wood to metal screws 2.5 inches long. About 10 per board. Even though it says self tapping, I ended up predrilling the metal with cobalt drill bits to make it easier. Hope that answers your comment/question.
