(This is just an opinion y’all) For me personally I really liked it because I am a HUGE sucker for RETRO/DISCO vibes, especially in Kpop. However, I am starting to get a little board but this was saved because of the sample or else I would have just gotten it off as a GENERAL! disco song in Kpop. This also was a very LOUD and HEAVY song (meaning that it was impactful like a punch and the instruments were really really powerful and stuff.) A solid 8.5/10 for me, only because of the impact and sample personally. Also the B-side is fire as well, 9/10. It was also a pretty powerful song but in a very soft way. IVE FIGHTING! To be honest I'm a little disappointed. Both Eleven and Love Dive had an underlying weirdness, a strangeness that made them stand out. This is just a bog-standard disco track like a hundred others we've heard the last 2 years. It's fine, well sung and performed, but I expected something better. Not one for the playlist, sadly. Having said that the b-side is excellent - now that's the IVE sound.

Even though it wasn't original or different it was a really good song, and that's what I like about IVE they release good enjoyable music that I would listen to over and over again!
When I heard the teaser I was worried, but the disco in this is not gimmicky, and was mixed in with modern sounds like the house-y production in the verses and prechorus! The melodies saved this song as well, especially that "what's after like" melody which sounded like a sharp tone or something (not a musician but it sounds elevated from the notes that it follows) lol! Also, the sequence at the last chorus with the fireworks and the IVE-brand mystical melodies is so cathartic! It looked and sounded like a victory lap for me. It sounds elevating, triumphant, and ethereal like the melodies in their previous title tracks! For me there are 2 types of retro: (1) the insufferable retro song that is solely retro for the sake of trends; and (2) the enjoyable retro that either: (a) does something new by mixing retro with newer sounds, like VIVIZ' Loveade and IVE's After Like; and (b) just have heavenly beautiful melodies, like Gfriend's Mago and IVE's After Like. It's a 10/10 for me.
I’m gonna be honest when I heard the bass come in during the very beginning I was so disappointed but by the time the chorus came I was pretty interested and then the STRINGS in that dramatic post chorus I LOVED and it kind of saved the song for me. I don’t listen to words even in English songs, I only know what a song is saying until I physically read them like a book. I only hear sounds when I’m listening to music, so language doesn’t effect my listening experience personally. Also I’m not fluent but I speak Korean lol

I'm with you one this one. I feel like the disco sample would have worked 2-3 years ago and felt at least kinda fresh still, but these days it's like "yeah, I mean that's disco all right." Still a totally fun song that I probably won't skip when it pops up and the raps over the sample flowed just fine. I also agree that this doesn't feel like IVE really, the mysterious and kinda ominous feeling of the other two songs isn't here and that doesn't have to always be their thing but it does give their songs a unique IVE feeling which is super neat (the B-side at least had a little more of that). Tbh I'm not into disco(retro) type of music, really! But I can't help with their voices. I think their voices are full of flavor in this comeback and that's why I fell in love with this song I guess.🌚 Actually I believe that I'll get easily bored with this song pretty quick ngl. Always loved IVE. I also happen to love the 70s disco classic “I Will Survive”, whose sample is used throughout this song. I have conflicting feelings, because as much as I support IVE, the nicest parts of the song to me are actually at these samples. In fact this song is nothing without these samples. It is otherwise flat. I want “I will survive” to recieve the credits and acknowledgement that it deserves. At the same time I also will want Ive to keep making songs like Eleven and Love Dive that are truly original and stand out from the crowd. But sadly here, it relies too strongly on a very classic tune. It almost feels as if this song is written just for an excuse on ride on a classic song. Small samples are common, but not dominantly in full verses like this, and for at least 3 times in the song for extended time
totally agree with you, nothing new to the table. i think starship just rushed to throw something to the fans to chew on meanwhile preparing something more elaborated for their next comeback, i mean, they cant be milking love dive for much long. Disco and house are always safe choices. Even the video looks like a performance more than a concept. The song is fun and hope that the next comeback makes up for this little ive snack
I really like disco generally and I love the sample, so I'm a big fan of "After Like" but I totally agree that it's an overused sound in Kpop right now and honestly for the last few years. Also agree that Ive's other music has been so unique as far as sound, so following up especially Love Dive was going to be hard. I really liked the b-side "My Satisfaction." It has that unique Ive sound that goes weird places. I couldn't predict any part of that song haha.

listen, this is highly biased because i personally still love that the retro sound is coming back in pop 🚶♀ but what really sold this song for me was the sample from "i will survive", i just found it SO iconic? like i've never seen a kpop gg remaster an 80's song with such a heavy influence from the original as this one does? they usually just use them lightly but this was basically "i will survive" 2.0 modernized in color ultra hd 4k and i'm living for it (especially since it's known as a gay anthem so 🌈). if this didn't have the sample i probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much

I adore IVE, they are most definitely the it girl group of the moment, but I have to agree. The song is an absolut hit, a banger, everything you want in a release but it’s at the same time, to some of us who listen to a lot of music and who have been around for all these other disco releases for the past 2.5 years a little underwhelming. Not in a bad way, just in a bored way. I also thought why would Starship choose a song like this after all the effort to differentiate them from any other gg out there and I don’t really have an an answer. Maybe it’s a marketing strategy to still ride the wave of hype from their previous songs, maybe always trying to be different can also get boring, I don’t know. They are too smart for me to believe this was a poor decision or coincidence. There must be a reason. But anyways, I will bwop to it, at least they did the sample in a successful way. I like that the song stands and is a hit even without it, the sample feels like the note of nostalgia, magic, to elevate the overall project. It doesn’t feel like it relies on it to be a good song, and I appreciate that.

The only sound that I like the most in after Like was that kind of strings solo after the chorus. For the rest, just like you said it, it's not too different from the other pop retro disco sound. Something else to point out is that the song at some parts reminds me to Bop Bop from Viviz. And for My Satisfaction, I prefer that song over After Like a lot more, it have that ""strong"" vibe that I'm looking for right now
While I did enjoy the song it’s not one that I would add to my playlist simply because of how many times I would end up listening to it and I know that I would get sick of it fast it’s one of those songs that you would listen to on occasion and you would enjoy listening to and while I do like the song I’ve personally feel like the sample carried. my satisfaction left me dissatisfied lol, i think those choruses were missing some "umph" for me, it was hard for me to even tell they were choruses. i watched the highlight medley beforehand and was hyped but that was because they only spoiled that last chorus😭i thought the whole song was gonna be like that and then it ended as soon as it started. but i loved the members lower registers and the dark vibe of the song

With the girl groups I feel Twice is to blame for the disco sound. Or more directly JYP. No one does it better than Twice with that sound. And it's just kinda unfortunate IVE went this route, both Eleven and Love Dive (ESPECIALLY Love Dive), sounded so different and it's probably why I enjoyed those so much. I want to hear something different and "Afer Like" was.... not. and I hate how kpop fans think anyone needs to like all songs from a group, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You can still very much like a group and at the same time go "Well- that was disappointing :/". So I very much appreciate that you're honest, kpop fans needs to hear more honesty. Not every group has perfect discographies, and that's okay! Theres such a difference between not liking a song because it's bad and not liking a song because it's just not what you want to hear. Edit: If we were to have any throwback sounds I NEED more 2000's r&b or maybe 90s influenced sounds. I don't think there's enough of those, and I very much enjoy those types of tracks.

I'm a 98 born asian guy. But, I really like that kind of retro disco pop songs and city pop. Retro pop songs in Kpop is really necessary for me.
The lyrics are so smart, understanding another language gives more depth to kpop in my opinion.

Still a totally fun song that I probably won't skip when it pops up and the raps over the sample flowed just fine. I also agree that this doesn't feel like IVE really, the mysterious and kinda ominous feeling of the other two songs isn't here and that doesn't have to always be their thing but it does give their songs a unique IVE feeling which is super neat (the B-side at least had a little more of that). That wasn't really here. Great reaction as always!
I'm so with you on being bored of the disco sound, disco is one of my favourite genre of music but i'm so sick of hearing it in every single song for the last 2 years, however i kinda liked that one! I love the melody, I don't know who their songwriters are but they know how to write catchy melodies! Although after hearing the gloria Gaynor sample in the teaser i was expecting the song to feel... Bigger? It was a little flat for me but still enjoyable

Idk why but this is the song that actually hits me right during the first listen! ❤️ Eleven and Love Dive is a song that I need few listens before I even fall in love with. Tbh I'm not into disco(retro) type of music, really! But I can't help with their voices. I think their voices are full of flavor in this comeback and that's why I fell in love with this song I guess.🌚 Actually I believe that I'll get easily bored with this song pretty quick ngl. Always loved IVE.
I also happen to love the 70s disco classic “I Will Survive”, whose sample is used throughout this song.
I have conflicting feelings, because as much as I support IVE, the nicest parts of the song to me are actually at these samples. In fact this song is nothing without these samples. It is otherwise flat.
I want “I will survive” to recieve the credits and acknowledgement that it deserves. At the same time I also will want Ive to keep making songs like Eleven and Love Dive that are truly original and stand out from the crowd.
But sadly here, it relies too strongly on a very classic tune. It almost feels as if this song is written just for an excuse on ride on a classic song.
Small samples are common, but not dominantly in full verses like this, and for at least 3 times in the song for extended time
totally agree with you, nothing new to the table. i think starship just rushed to throw something to the fans to chew on meanwhile preparing something more elaborated for their next comeback, i mean, they cant be milking love dive for much long. Disco and house are always safe choices. Even the video looks like a performance more than a concept.

I really like disco generally and I love the sample, so I'm a big fan of "After Like" but I totally agree that it's an overused sound in Kpop right now and honestly for the last few years. Also agree that Ive's other music has been so unique as far as sound, so following up especially Love Dive was going to be hard. I really liked the b-side "My Satisfaction." It has that unique Ive sound that goes weird places. I couldn't predict any part of that song haha.
I was really excited once I heard the little snippets that were teased, but the end result of both songs kinda left me looking for more?
I agree with what you said about After LIKE missing that IVE sound they have crafted. I also didn't really like the rap parts, I feel like they could have done without them, they felt a bit out of place?

Nah the title track was perfect as always and rap was needed, after the second chorus it needed to feed into something unique and no way they can slow it down and stop the energy, unlike eleven and lovedive with them having a dance break and a slow down motif maybe ur deaf? 👹👹

I LOVE disco but I cannot stand disco in kpop, but I loved this iteration of it (The sample probably helped a lot) but I’m a huge fan. My satisfaction is just amazing as well. It really provided a different vibe to After Like.
listen, this is highly biased because i personally still love that the retro sound is coming back in pop 🚶♀ but what really sold this song for me was the sample from "i will survive", i just found it SO iconic? like i've never seen a kpop gg remaster an 80's song with such a heavy influence from the original as this one does? they usually just use them lightly but this was basically "i will survive" 2.0 modernized in color ultra hd 4k and i'm living for it (especially since it's known as a gay anthem so 🌈). if this didn't have the sample i probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much

I adore IVE, they are most definitely the it girl group of the moment, but I have to agree. The song is an absolut hit, a banger, everything you want in a release but it’s at the same time, to some of us who listen to a lot of music and who have been around for all these other disco releases for the past 2.5 years a little underwhelming. Not in a bad way, just in a bored way. I also thought why would Starship choose a song like this after all the effort to differentiate them from any other gg out there and I don’t really have an an answer. Maybe it’s a marketing strategy to still ride the wave of hype from their previous songs, maybe always trying to be different can also get boring, I don’t know. They are too smart for me to believe this was a poor decision or coincidence. There must be a reason. But anyways, I will bwop to it, at least they did the sample in a successful way. I like that the song stands and is a hit even without it, the sample feels like the note of nostalgia, magic, to elevate the overall project. It doesn’t feel like it relies on it to be a good song, and I appreciate that.

The only sound that I like the most in after Like was that kind of strings solo after the chorus. For the rest, just like you said it, it's not too different from the other pop retro disco sound. Something else to point out is that the song at some parts reminds me to Bop Bop from Viviz.
And for My Satisfaction, I prefer that song over After Like a lot more, it have that ""strong"" vibe that I'm looking for right now

While I did enjoy the song it’s not one that I would add to my playlist simply because of how many times I would end up listening to it and I know that I would get sick of it fast it’s one of those songs that you would listen to on occasion and you would enjoy listening to and while I do like the song I’ve personally feel like the sample carried. My satisfaction on the other hand now that is a song!

my satisfaction left me dissatisfied lol, i think those choruses were missing some "umph" for me, it was hard for me to even tell they were choruses. i watched the highlight medley beforehand and was hyped but that was because they only spoiled that last chorus😭i thought the whole song was gonna be like that and then it ended as soon as it started. but i loved the members lower registers and the dark vibe of the song

With the girl groups I feel Twice is to blame for the disco sound. Or more directly JYP. No one does it better than Twice with that sound. But Ive is still in the running for top 10 girl groups for me. They just keep getting stronger in my opinion. But yeah disco should have stayed dead in the 70s. Can't be mad at them for sampling the most iconic disco song of all time. Good on you Ive.

I like IVE a lot but the minute I heard the teaser I immediately went "please no not IVE too 😩". To me, im very much like you in that im just so over the 80s and disco songs. And it's just kinda unfortunate IVE went this route, both Eleven and Love Dive (ESPECIALLY Love Dive), sounded so different and it's probably why I enjoyed those so much. I want to hear something different and "Afer Like" was.... not. and I hate how kpop fans think anyone needs to like all songs from a group, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You can still very much like a group and at the same time go "Well- that was disappointing :/". So I very much appreciate that you're honest, kpop fans needs to hear more honesty. Not every group has perfect discographies, and that's okay! Theres such a difference between not liking a song because it's bad and not liking a song because it's just not what you want to hear.
Edit: If we were to have any throwback sounds I NEED more 2000's r&b or maybe 90s influenced sounds. I don't think there's enough of those, and I very much enjoy those types of tracks.

I love disco but this song was kinda one note and the beat during the verse wasn’t good enough to not have any peaks and lows.
i feel like this song lacked a climax, it sounds the same all throughout. If it had some high notes and a different outro it would be so much better. The last chorus sounded empty. I like the song tho.
