This guy is a legend. He stood up to the government and lost his job for it, we owe him a lot
True, that.
I remember this but never knew who he was, what a legend.
The only Anxiety I get from Cannabis is leaving the house to buy it and returning home with it without government henchman jumping on me and taking me to court for persecution.
I hold the door open for the next person and will help anyone that falls to the ground . Why am I such a criminal........Who is taking what could be genuine tax money, criminals !! but apparently im one myself
Well said..
It’s 1000 times more likely to get summoned to court for a driving offence, but that shouldn’t stop you from driving! I’m more concerned about the negative publicity that is placed on users, like they are career criminals. I am not a cannabis user but I stand with anyone that uses it. The fact that it is illegal to use a plant is an embarrassment to the nation. Props to Germany 🇩🇪 ❤

I've recently applied for medical cannabis. Have a ook at it online, it's delivered to your door and good quality starting at £5 a gram.
If the smell is why cannabis should be kept illegal, then please please please let's outlaw perfume as well. Nasty stuff.
Beer farts!
Yeah, this was a really weird argument. I used to grow the strain Northern Lights here in Germany because it barley smells. I didn't even use an air filter even though it was illegal af.
I don’t like the smell of stargazer lilies. Also the smell of pubs since they got rid of smoking, all you can smell are farts and wee!
i agree, hate both
It doesn’t smell like stale cabbage either!
Its beyond embarrassing that its illegal in the UK now.
the police in the uk charged me for having half of a nug of CBD, in 2023
Could be over to Germany and back in a weekend visit, lets get a bus together ? we could do a protest everyone else is at it
The law is due to lobbying. GW pharma the biggest exporter in the world doesn't want to damage their share price. Legal uk cannabis will plummet their shares.

I recently received a prescription (in the UK) for medical marijuana, chronic back pain, and it has been life changing. The difference in quality of life is like night and day.

Alright kid, you've had your 5 minutes of attention, now it's bedtime.
That's part of the problem: cannabis is a home grown industry, legal or not.
Tax and regulation are added costs for legitimate business who would be up against any cheeky sod with a boarded over attic, spare room or a well constructed shed.
I'm fully on board with the decriminalisation of personal possession, but a business would probably be hard to maintain past the initial hype of legalization.
Amsterdam mainly relies on tourists.
@@pauln6803 They make all their money from tourism because, I wonder why... The pubs ain't doing too well nowadays so this could be the boost the economy needs. The home grower won't ever be able to keep up with big businesses. The quality and price will destroy them, take a peek at America
Professor Nutt always has my full attention. Reason and wisdom. Why they fired and refuse to listen to a man with such experiences speaks volume.
I swear to god, smoking cannabis is a symptom of life forcing us to have to deal with people that read the times.

Nobody's has anything negative to say about cannabis because there are no negatives.
Legalize it in the UK it would be a much more pleasnant time
The EU just let them? But we left to take back control and over 52% of people think it should be legal so do we have control or not
They actually decriminalised, not legalised. For now there are no shops where you cab buy it, and cannabis social clubs are non profit. There are tight limits to what you can own.
@@Smashy2009 I didn't say they legalized it. I like their laws because it doesn't put it into corporate hands for profit, it just allows people their personal freedom to grow, possess and use cannabis which makes sense. You can grow enough plants, and possess enough cannabis to smoke without being on the wake and bake routine which you shouldn't do anyway, so seems fine to me
The EU never had control over the UK because we had the right to VETO any new EU regulations. That was just an excuse used by the right wing Tories because they needed to blame their failures on the EU rather then admitting them to the UK public.
@@BowserLucaTheThird In generell i find the law sufficient, and i especially like the growing part, the only downside ist the 50 gram limit for posession at home. I want to have different strains available for different uses, not going to happen with 50 g. Nobody tells me how much beer i store neither.
@@Dark_Bandon
As far as I understand it, we didn't have a veto on new regulation.
I think regulation usually is down to a majority vote in the EU parliament.
We did have the power to ignore certain laws if they contradicted existing UK law.
Every EU member nation has the power of veto on any constitutional matter (including new membership application), budget and trade deals.
But yeah, a lot of people are now realising that the EU was a convenient scapegoat for the cumulative failure of Tory policies.

Germany has the losest alcohol laws, and the amount of youth that is drinking regulary is pretty low.
I do not count beer.
Alcohol is really a problem in Germany. My neighbor will loose his feet. And I know many more alcoholics. Alcohol does much more harm than Canabis can ever do.
That expert was great. Lucky Germany.
He just wanted to inform and give measured debate with truth. She just wanted to demean and appeal to the fear and ignorance, stubborness of the demographic she is serving.
Oh no, a funny smell.
Wont someone think of the children
YES, MY SON GROWS IT.
Not as wholesome as car exhaust?
The most effective way to deal with the drug trade is to legalize, regulate, and tax it. The United States tried banning a drug already, it's called alcohol. How'd that work out?
That's true but further down the line the moral decay of that society has indirect affects eg now it's not alcohol but fentanyl for just one example of social decay...
The economic argument is rational and immediately effective - at dealing with the symptoms of social substance use. It does nothing to deal with the behaviour of people resorting to substance in a given society environment.
However it will follow the above trend: "Normalization will lead to increase". It will mean as per the eg in the video that neighbours will stink each other out living in close-combination. I knew someone who's baby was next door to such.
This really is about killing the black market and poisonous substance - it's nothing to do with really solving the underlying causes. I mean one can conclude it's better than doing nothing about cannabis however but it's not a solution it's a stop-gap that will become a standard.
I know it’s so obvious but for some reason (maybe big Pharma) the politicians don’t like the idea
nailed it
people like to get high
@@rodmarker2071 Right? Trying to tell grown-ups what they can and can't do with their own bodies is a fools game.
@@guydreamr How about the children and their children's children? There's that problem with dealing with the symptoms and not the fundamental drivers eg motivations behind substance use.
Economics will resolve the immediate problem but where before it was alchohol it's now fentanyl and in the future yet more forms of addiction no doubt will keep popping up. So it's at best a stop-gap or standard as opposed to complete solution - though it will take criminal organization out of the profits and provide those who are addicted with a safe supply. That's probably a lot better than doing nothing.
Potentially belatedly this might herald a little step towards sanity as Professor Nutt suggests but of course it'll be pushed back against by both the more puritanical and prohibitionists.
Legalised in Germany now, this is good news, it may be legalised in Australia also, in a decade or two.

Thank you for your assessment of the importance of this decision for Europe from Germany Mr Nutt. I appreciate you very much and I think you were not really treated fairly by your countrymen for your really good work. You are a good scientist and as far as I can tell, a good person too!
I'm a grower and user since 2015, in a European country where it is illegal. Cannabis saved my life literally. It gave me reasons to live. Before, I thought about suic*de every day. Now I face live in a more positive way. It expanded my mind and taught me many things about myself. Growing and using Cannabis is a journey, an art, a constant learning and a passion. This journalists are so ignorant talking about the smell. It smells divinely with hints of coffee, chocolate, wood resins, forests and sometimes fruits and caramel. They are talking about the smell of burning it. Almost anything when burned smells. Nowadays, 95% of my consuming is herb vaping and edibles. No awful smell. On the contrary, a good smell and excellent taste. I think German legalization is fair. Americans turned it into a business with marketing. I don't agree with it. It should be compared to alcool and tobacco - good wine and fine tobaccos. It's not for everyone and must be respected. Kids, please don't use it - at your age it's not good for your brain. Enjoy it, if you like, when you're an adult. 😊
If the smell is the problem... there in Amy things you should ban. Garlic would be my first choice!
What's wrong with Amy's things that they should be banned?
Farts in lifts are worse!
I’d vote whatever party legalises it.
People need to start voting about this if they want to see any possibility of change.
I live in Spain where consumers clubs and personal use in private are basically tolerated. I can say that responsible use of cannabis in society is not only possible but widespread, and it shouldn't be criminalised, it should be regulated.
the alcohol smell is not of concern to you ? and drunkards are actually stinking .....
Congratulations Germany 🎉 You now have the Freedom to choose & not be a criminal.
About time UK caught up , medical & recreational does not mean smoking it, there are many ways.
UK SHOULD LEGALISE IT!!
I love that her biggest argument agaisnt cannabis is the smell.😅 I live in Denver, this is totally silly. And even still we dont cage people and take their kids away because we dont agree with certain smells, thats barbaric... if you REALLY care about the smell, allow neighborhood smoke lounges. They can easily put up carbon filters to nearly eliminate any odors. Saying society should use threat of force and imprisonment for doing something without a victim is way more harmful than anything a little smoke might do
Only in the UK you see. There's too Europe has a healthy dosage of common sense.
Legalize UK NOW
Well done Germany

Alcohol is far more dangerous to health and society than Cannabis. Nobody has died from Cannabis use, but many die from Alcohol consumption yet that is acceptable to government. I find it hard to understand government making a plant illegal, but they do currently. Alcohol makes some people violent, Cannabis makes many people sleep.
And that's precisely what we want; a dozy populace.

The UK is an embarrassment
Definitely don't believe it should be a class b given how common it is. Literally smell it on any street corner. Removing the classification all together maybe a worthwhile experiment particularly to see how much it frees up police resources. The long term health effects however would most likely increase if it's cheaper and more acceptable. But we allow smoking in general and don't classify that, so rather two faced.
Frees up the police and it will flush fresh money into the UK accounts.
It is prognosed that Germany will become the biggest cannabis market in the world, I bet the UK wouldn't be far behind.
I have been eating it since I was 16. I am 74 and had no ill effects.
Most police would much rather harass a stoner and bust them for possession, than tackle anti-social behaviour or dangerous thugs...or use some resources to prosecute the real criminals in Westminster.
Very good Uk should be legal also
Stale cabbage?! Whut??
I never thought we would decriminalise before England and France. This is a step in the right direction, still a long road ahead. So many lifes were ruined by prohibition, so much tax money spent on a lost war on cannabis. I hope you will have similiar or even more tolerant laws in England and the whole UK soon. I wish you the best of luck with it. The fight might be hard but it's well worth the effort. So please never give up - no matter how hopeless things might seem! Much love from Germany :)

The objections raised by this girl are foolish. No-one considered the smell and choking smoke from tobaco for most of my adult life and the intoxication argument seems to presuppose that people don't already abuse alcohol, often leading to violence. The benefits of regulated cannabis production and consumption far outweight the downside and i am pleased to see that more and more cuntries are finally waking up.
My only caveat for making it legal in the UK is the fear that it will finally sound the death knell for our already pressured licence trade and close all the pubs.
All those old pubs could become cannabis clubs. Problem solved.

Dr Nutt told you all about this stuff years ago, but ukgovdotcon didn’t like the results of their own, year long, commissioned study whatsoever, so they shelved the lot. Some years later & Victoria Atkins is standing up in uk parliament, unequivocally stating that her madge’s govt simply doesn’t recognise the plant as having any ‘medicinal value’ whatsoever .... whilst her husband, Philip May, I.C.I. & British Sugar, are simultaneously coining it on the quiet, as the uk is named as the worlds biggest exporters of ‘medicinal cannabis’, by the U.N.
Did you know that medical cannabis production is big buisness in the u.k.? Its shipped abroad whilst we suffer here! I enquired at the chemist about being perscribed for my dad with parkinsons and the hoops to jump through and fees are rediculous.
UK only exports for medicines like sativex. Private Medical Cannabis is the first step forward.
The hoops are not that big if your Father is ill & will benefit from it. None of the private cannabis prescribed is from UK yet, all imported from elsewhere in World.
It is about time adults in UK are given the freedom to choose. The pharma industry is obviously against it.
