Hi guys! Here's a tip to memorize the "times a day" that I developed while working as a certified pharmacy tech:
Qd ( "d" for daily)
Bid-twice daily-(B is the (2)nd letter of the alphabet)
Tid-three times daily-( three starts with T)
Qid-four times daily-(q for quad which = 4)

When they don't make sense, it's easier to remember them if you know their origin. For the first group, here is the phrase in the original language and how you can remember them in English:
AC - ante cibum - BEFORE FOOD (Latin)
AdLib - ad libitum - TO PLEASURE (Latin)
BID - Bis in die - TWICE IN DAY (Latin)
GTT - Goutte - DROP (French)

Hi Caroline! Awesome video this gave me a little background before I start nursing school! I have a question for you, I am starting my medical terminology class in a few weeks and I was wondering if you recommend any books for that class? Or if there are any online tools that wold be good? found this extremely helpful, another popular one is CVA well at least where i work in acute rehab
Those speaking Spanish will find connections, as there are lots of Latin-based terms. For example, antes = before and comida = food. So it makes sense that ac = before food. Also, gotas = drops. These are tricks I teach my medical Spanish students. Overall, very informative video :)

Good job. I see gtt all the time pertaining to eye drops. I've never her OOB and I worked surgical most of my nursing career. Different areas and countries use some expressions more then others. Something to think about, I noticed you said "expire" for death. I think we have become too sterile in nursing. I think if we stick to the actual terms we will carry more compassion throughout our careers instead of it becoming stark and cold. I've been nursing a very long time and I work with dying people now but we don't talk about "expiring" we talk about when they die. The management and the nursing community as a whole like to make things stark and remove any emotion from what we're doing. don't fall into this trap. Let's just call it what it is...death. Cheers
