Thank you very much, you’ve definitely earned my subscription, and I hope to watch many more of your videos. 👍🏻
Awesome, thank you! Will definitely have some more videos like this on the way!
Many years ago I read a book call "KINGS IN GRASS CASTLES". It was about a family building up their cattle outfit in the 1800s in Australia. It discribed the cattle drives and the hardships they went through.
I'll have a look for the book ! Sounds like an interesting read !
It is the story of the Durack family droving cattle from Goldbourn NSW to the Kimberlies in WA across the top, took them 3 years to complete
That’s the Durack family in the Kimberley.
@@bradwaghorn8955 Thank you.
The duracks actually started out south west Queensland and moved to the territory. If you're interested Ion Iddriess wrote a book called the cattle King All about did Kidman. A very interesting read.
I think you could have expanded on his "chain of stations" along creeks, and dropped the useless stuff about snakes, etc. Kidman thought about a chain of stations for years as he travelled all over the country, before he gradually bought up chains of stations to the Georgina, Diamantina and Cooper rivers. It's a key aspect of his success and how he managed to survive drought.
Great video, cheers. A suggestion for another video is the third explorer with Bourke and Wills. As a kid we were taught about the exploration of Bourke and Wills and how they died in the outback, but nobody spoke about 'King' because he survived. I wonder if he continued exploration.
Thanks Daz will definitely take a read through, sounds very interesting!
If my memory serves me, John King died at around 42 years of age and spent most of his time after being rescued from Coopers Creek in a Hospice
Great video🎉
Thanks Karsten !
My uncle Frank was a drover for Sidney Kidman back in the early 50s
great to hear !
He died in 1935
@@johnantonine4505 I have no idea when Sidney Kidman died but the Kidman station would have kept on working after he died. My Uncle was born in 1924 so I so not know what age he was when he worked moving cattle from the corner country to gepps cross in Adelaide.
Your uncle is probably still owed wages from Kidman he was a bad man my grandfather a WW1 veteran and drover disliked Kidman a lot said he was the only man he ever thought of shooting that was not on the battlefield my grandfather was a devoted Christian after the war and the Kidman thing was the only time he got upset you only had to say Kidman and he would be cranky all day
@@NoelzsazsaI hate to say I'm not surprised, but sadly I'm not
This is an inspirational story.
Great video thank you for sharing it with us. 👍👍💪💪🇦🇺🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it !!!
Great presentation.
Drought conditions early on in australia the weather made it very hard on homesteads and drovers to feed your family or livestock. Artisans water deep below the australian dirt was hard to come by. Many owners and livestock wasted away looking for water.
Leases held in perpetuity means forever i thought? It could be held by the landholder to decide what they wanted to do with it renew lease, sell it, cut it into smaller lots, lease to others or what ever they wanted to do within the guidrlines i suppose. In Queensland The Land Act 1962 covered land acquisition in that state and included leases like the Grazing Homestead Freehold Lease; GHFL, the Deed in Grant in Trust (DOGIT) areas covered Aboriginal Reserve areas that controlled the lives of Aboriginal people living in those areas for example a permit was required to visit these areas at one time.. I am not a legal a person or an expert on anything but recall some of these from my own memories and of work situation. Perhaps further information could be found in the current Land Act and amendments if there is one anymore?
How about Burke & Wills or Dick Smith. Great video, cheers.
Thanks Craig ! Will have a deep dive, will be interesting !
Good book,
This is way better than Tiger King
Definitely is !
They were spread out but interestingly the majority are in one water catchment the only one that doesnt run to the sea. Which is the lake eyre basin. Its very dry. So it wasnt diversified that much only 2 catchments...
There appears to be more to the strategy.
Maybe he was buying up this drought land and using artisian water or better grazing management I dont know.
Maybe Anna Creek is just south.
❤
A great man
Agreed ! Who do you want to see next ?
Famous ranchers all over the world.

Yes they are related !

Iv worked country that is along the way that Kidman drove his stock. Iv found a few horse shoes in the paddocks and a few other pieces that they left behind. People who don’t understand the vast size of Australia compared to other countries, will not understand how far he moved his stock. Nowadays, if a truck was to move stock the same distances, they’d die because of the fast climate change, that’s how far he moved. A comparison how far he moved would be Canada to Mexico or England to Turkey
Nowadays, iv contracted to the person who bought out the Kidman family cattle Station.
Interesting, appreciate the comment always good to hear from someone on the ground there !
Mate it's not that far are you kidding get a map and have a look have you any idea how far it is to Canada from Mexico
Was Quigley down under based on any people in reality or all Hollywood?
Venomous snakes. Not poisonous.
The methane cowboy
Sure sounds like an interesting topic !
Ever wonder how Nicole Kidman got her name?
This is true
@@franklyfarming fuck I was wondering that
Would this be Nicole Kidman heritage?
yes they are related
It shows that the business survived so many ups and downs for over century but it is no longer thanks to money hangry woke people.😢
Your wrong if you take the time to read about Kidman you will understand why farming families end up there separate ways to many fingers wanting a part of the pie it started with the split between the Kidmans and the Reid’s you ended up with Kidman Reid and Kidman but they kept breeding more generations to many people
He never owned it , most of the land was perpetual lease.
Ok ...what is perpetual lease...tell me more please
Someone who owns property lets someone else use it in exchange for money. But leases like this can last for ages @@hickory01au
the crown owns the land and people lease it off the crown. Most were 99 year leases@@hickory01au
Control of is everything
@@hickory01au
perpetual lease is lease with option to renew
on State owned land (Crown Land) before 1901 Federation of Australian States (still Crown Land)
