Now THIS is how you transport someone in a wheelchair. The reason why I say that is because sometimes the disabled rider might not be able to lift himself or herself out of the chair to get into the regular seat.
Streetcar1664 Im a flight attendant and I will say this I wish we could carry our disabled passengers this way, but the sizes of the doors and isles just don’t allow for it.
Trains and platforms in Canada, America and in parts of Europe are very wierd as the platforms are so low with steps required on the trains. In the UK, the platforms have been constructed to be train door height.
You are right, you do. I have been all around the world and Switzerland is the best country for this. I have also had an outstanding experience in Tokyo, really good in both trains and subway systems. Italy or Spain are very complicated. The UK is quite good too. France is somewhere in the middle...
Loved the video! I'm disabled and about to embark on a 24 hour trip. How do you go to the bathroom in this case? Are you allowed top transfer to a chair if possible? hows the food? Dp they serve alcohol? Roll on, my friend!! And again, THANK YOU!!!!!!! =)
luckily here in the UK wheel chair users don't need to go through all that as our platforms are at door height, at most you'll just need a small ramp panel to bridge the gap and in some stations the platform is so well made that you can go straight over the gap with anything that has wheels because the gap is so small disclaimer: I'm not a wheelchair users but just wanted to comment about stuff
Merseyrail will be doing major works starting this October to raise platforms even more. The new trains will have sliding step making it far better for wheelchair users and child buggies.
Here in Ireland both Iarnród Éireann and North of Ireland Rail have platform height doors so you only need to put down a small ramp for a wheelchair user to access. I thought it was like that everywhere else too.
On the down side, looks like you have to use these hand-cranked wayside lifts, which are slow and can jam up. On the upside, VIA seems to have nicer coaches than Amtrak(*), although it is extremely likely that the coaches are nicer still in most of Europe and Japan. (*)Amtrak's old Heritage coaches were nice, but now they are LONG gone, replaced by relatively lousy Amfleet and SuperLiner, depending upon which part of the system you are in.
In Australia more specifically Brisbane, train stations are much higher so the entry is at normal flat level so the only thing needed is a metal plate to cover the gap with designated handicapped seating inside
One thing I hate about being in a wheelchair and taking via…. Actually 2 things. One. I was going down to Kingston from Woodstock and I had a connection in Toronto. The train was really late getting into Woodstock so they just decided to clean the train then take that to Kingston and wherever else. They gave people the option of getting off the train or staying in their seat and I told them I wanted to get off it should’ve been simple. But the lady was annoyed by the option I picked and was trying to get me to stay on. Obviously I said no because why would they question the option you gave the passengers? So I got off and when someone else came to get me to help me with the lift and stuff I told the guy what happened and he didn’t seem to care. Another thing is the cars they use. Some are an inch too narrow for my wheelchair and most of the time they just try to get me on another train where that wouldn’t be a problem. I know they’re just trying to help but seriously. I want to take the train I told them not the train they want me to take because it’s too narrow. I booked a trip for September to go to Ottawa and was surprised when the lady told me they will have an aisle chair for me for the train from Toronto to Ottawa and prows to Toronto. That is really great service and accommodation
Hauling butt down the halls! I love being able to go on high speed, but still have to watch f people coming from around corners. Way to go Canada Rail! Wonder if Amtrak has this? I have been wanting to go out trekking by rail.
+Dawn Klug Come over to UK you will have fun using the trains over here you can even go to France,Netherlands or Germany via the tunnel. The rail companies do ask for 24 hrs notice so that they can arrange for people to be there to help. Here's a video of a young man travelling around Europe in his wheelchair ua-cam.com/video/qZnXcd6-3UU/v-deo.html
Hi Dawn, Amtrak has a huge number of Mobilift wheelchair lifts deployed throughout their system and is generally very accessible. I suggest checking with your local station to see if they can accommodate your needs. Rail is a great way to travel!
At least a couple times you saw the companion struggling to catch up. Great to have speed and I enjoy running my F5 at 7.5 MPH but you have to remember most fit able bodied adults can run faster
@@Westcountrynordic 24hr notice is not necessary on Northern trains (UK). I can't be sure when I'm travelling, so really appreciate the Northern guards getting the ramp out for me without any notice whatsoever. Just let the guard know that you need the ramp to board the train by waiting next to the train door marked with a strip of wheelchair symbols on a pale blue background when the train arrives at the station. If the guard isn't at the disabled door, look up and down the platform and wave then point to the door. I've started gesturing with my arm at an angle to mimic the slope of the ramp, though I doubt it makes any difference. Once you're boarded, the guard will check what station you are getting off at, to ensure that they return to fit the ramp for your departure. I'm not sure if the guard would wheel you onto/off the train, if you were travelling solo (as I have assistance from family), but they're very helpful, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Northern trains have space for at least 2 wheelchairs (possibly 3, depending on the size). I'm not sure what the size restrictions are for mobility scooters, but I'm sure that they'll be online. There's either USB sockets or standard 3 pin UK power sockets available, unless you have been unlucky and are on an older train. All Northern trains, no matter what the age, are accessible via ramp.
Maruf, there is no reason your country can't achieve this. The wheelchair lift shown in the video (Mobilift TX) does not require power, is extremely reliable and can be maintained by any competent mechanic. We have had customers operate these units in every climate around the world for decades at a time. Please connect with us at www.adaptivelifts.com if there is anyway we can help.
David o brien You realise the system Iarnród Éireann and North of Ireland Rail use it better, right? The doors are already at platform height so only a small ramp needs to be put down in order for the wheelchair user to access.
I don't know what you mean. Is the real reason so as not to allow unticketed passengers to use the elevator, as well as to restrict acess to the platform until boarding?
Some of those style of lifts are carried on the trains themselves. Additionally, many places have back up ramps that can be used with four people assisting. Chair user for twenty years. Got to get creative when stuff breaks.
hi Dan i would like to know weather you replaced your braunability Toyota sienna and if not could you upload a video about the touchscreen itself how it works etc. like your previous video. i am a 16 yrs old CP quadriplegic and i am very interested in driving with disability
To this day i have never understood y other countries platforms are so low, in UK when going places with a friend of mine all he needs is a ramp at worst, some stations are even going as far as step free access
Because the cars in question is a long-distance one on a platform that is used for many different varieties of cars. In addition, the low platform is safer for people who don't spend time around trains.
In USA there are high and low, we have low ones for some trains that the doors are at the way bottom of the coaches, because we share lines with commuters, expresses, and bla bla
I’m Ben 20 years old and I’m in wheelchair and I have used one if there’s lift on a train and I could feel the lift moving and you may think I’m mad but I liked the feel of me going up and down on this lift
Just horrible. Hand cranked lifts and being strapped down and unable to move around while other passengers can walk around the train car is demeaning. There is no reason a permanent ramp can be installed that the train pulls up next to. This is why I just drive everywhere.
Did I just see someone saying amtrack is the best train company in the world? Widen your view a little lmao, american trains are on ice age compared to europe or japan

This train station reminds me of Milan.
Nice music
Trains like planes preboard
how come you need an elevator operator to operate the elevator to the platform at Union Station? Is it locked off? Why?
To keep lazy people from hogging it.
The Via Rail Platforms in Toronto need a Elevator operator to use it so lazy people don't hog it. The Go Transit platforms don't have that.
I don't know what you mean. Is the real reason so as not to allow unticketed passengers to use the elevator, as well as to restrict acess to the platform until boarding?
If the Ford government keeps its promise and returns passenger service to northern Ontario, I hope they will ensure wheelchair access.
