    He's my Doctor!!!!! He's the best. I lived in Florida, where my mom and I discovered him, and now we have lived in New Mexico for the past year, where he is STILL our primary doctor!! We love him and his wife (jennifer) SOOO MUCH!!!!!

    Dr. Harrington is my doctor also and he is fantastic. I see him through telemedicine as I live in Washington state. I would highly recommend him!!! This is a fantastic interview and I really appreciate the types of questions you ask, Rip. we get to find out more about your guests than a lot of other interviewers discover. It’s so interesting to find out a little more about their personal lives, and how they’ve become vegan professionals. 👍👏

    Thank you for discussing vitamin D deficiency! I’m at a 17 and have been struggling with severe fatigue, body and muscle aches and pains, brain fog and low mood for at least a couple years until I was recently checked. I’m on a therapeutic dose now and then my doctor wants me on 2,000 IU daily for maintenance. This is a really important topic because I wasn’t aware that my yearly bloodwork didn’t include testing for vitamin D!

    Great interview! I was also glad to hear his comment about CT scans of Whole food Plant based people always getting the comment that we were probably constipated and it is typical for it to look that way when it isn’t really the case. I had already figured that was the case but it was good to hear it from a Dr.

    I was enjoying the interview immensely until the subject of constipation came up, and I heard two men having a smile about it. "Constipated vegan" is no laughing matter, and yes, we DO exist. I have been WFPB vegan for the most of my adult life (i.e., since 1991), with a diet super rich in fiber and variety and an active lifestyle. And yet I have endured horrible bouts of constipation and IBS in turns for all of that time, usually during hormonal fluctuations. I had been diagnosed with hyperthyroid (TMG) 25 years ago, and now have had my thyroid removed this past year. This with menopause coming close to being official has changed things for me yet again. I've been re-dialing my diet again to try to manage this.
    Please remember that not everyone is able to flush out all that fiber efficiently all of the time, and that it is a session of misery when it occurs. Peace.

      Yes, you can get constipated with plants - if you eat nuts and seeds without water. Eat some chia seeds without a lot of water and see if you don't get constipated. Just because you go plant-based doesn't mean curing it.

    Would love to hear a conversation on how some people on plant based diets acquire medical issues such as kidney stones and inflammation caused by the oxalates in the plants that are eaten in high volumes. Some will argue the pros outweigh the cons but if your someone suffering through issues from eating allot of plant based foods? They might disagree with you. Won't go into Thyroid issues too. Keep in mind I am not a Vegan or anything like that, I just try to eat the best I can. Tried plant based for 5 yrs and acquired hypothyroidism due to the diet. Yes I can prove it through lab tests from the beginning of my transition to this diet to the end of the 5 yrs. You see the change happen. Lots of speculation to how and why? But I am no longer eating just plant based and am feeling better. Not everyone is the same and must adjust accordingly.

      Can you be more specific about your plant based diet? Not all plant based diets are based on the best foods for our health.

    I love rip for being a real man - not someone who's being an imposter - trying to represent females without actually being one. Robert Cheeke too - I love how he's also defining masculinity for what it truly is - strength to help out the less fortunate, rather than strength to destroy. I think veganism is bringing masculinity to where it really should be, so we can get away from toxic masculinity. We need masculinity in this world to help it out - just not in the wrong way - because it's equally destructive. Picking on the weaker - isn't a display of strength, but wimpy. There's too many wimpy men in this day and age that infantilize themselves drinking milk, but in a perverse way of taking from others instead of being a breadwinner for everyone.
    I look for and want to see men being breadwinners and definitely will not be impressed if someone 'bring home the bacon'. Bacon - while it's kind of okay and sometimes nice, it can be really vile too - when there's more impressive out there.
    Bread is religious - being the body of the spirit, so it's life. What's bacon to me? It's a puny rectangle that just doesn't have much food on it and leaves you hungry at the end (if not ill from the unhealthiness). I hope other men grow up like Rip and Robert have!
    We need men in this world, not milk-suckling babies as warriors. Maybe the next book to write is "Be A Plant-Based Male Warrior". Or you can write in 'man' instead of male. Then we'll have the male side of the esselstyn family give their side to cover both sexes and have completion for that part of veganism. Both books are important, maybe the male warrior - even more so!

      before anyone talks sexism, the issue is wimpiness - and that is both sides. Wimpiness leads to weakness - and in turn from weakness we get violence out of it (as violence is a form of weakness). If we remove wimpy behavior via veganism, then we'll see toughness. Why? You can't be a soldier being obese, or malnourished and underweight - of which animal products create those 2 extremes with. So we need a middle zone that plants provide. That's why it's called 'plant strong'.

    RCT show clearly benefits of vitamin d… but too often the dosage is wrong.. ( vitamin d should be talent daily.. not monthly.. ) Vitamin D blood level should be higher than 50 ng/ml

    It’s a bit disappointing to hear you say no such thing as a constipated vegan. IBS is a real thing and even vegans suffer from it. More fiber isn’t always the answer.

    • @extropiantranshuman
      @extropiantranshuman 9 місяців тому

      It's true - if you eat too much fiber - it can plug up your system too. The answer to constipation is hydrating. It's the quickest, cheapest, best solution I got! Sometimes if your GI tract is really raw, water can hurt it more, as water's abrasive - then juice is going to help, but green juice can be constipating and citrus is inflaming, so it's more about a garden - like beets, melon, etc.

    Good interview UNTIL the subject of 'constipated vegan' was spoken about. It DOES exist and seeing you both laugh about it just marginalized people that deal with this daily, even though on the WFPB diet. Maybe address the issue next time and not make the rest of us feel 'less than'.
