About a year ago the episode about a day in the life of a shipyard dog. The one where Caillou announced his intention to be the captain of Yaba when it was done. There were way too many episodes in regards to the rebuilt to pick a favorite out of them, so I picked the one about the puppy and the two of you acknowledging what I had figured out months before, you were the proud adoptees of a puppy dog, or vice versa. Hard to say who adopted who really.
My favourite part was when you tell us what you paid for Yaba. The costs of repairs, replacements and labour for All the guys who worked to get Yaba seaworthy again.... I have to know?
I came to your channel from Odd Life 😂😂 and I found your story an extreme study of cheerful determination second to NONE 🙏👍💪🏆👏👏...I first couldn't believe that after your arrival and real inspection... That you actually decided to fix the keel ... and then EVERYTHING ELSE..I subscribed very soon after
Boy!! I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed watching your adventures of this rebuild. I find myself anxious for Sunday so I can catch up with the projects. You help me make it through Northern Michigan winters as I wait for spring and the launch of Gallivant my 36 1988 Catalina 36. Thanks
My first thoughts, way back, were 'bloody hell, ya mad'. But watching the journey, the old craft skills of the boat builders using machinery that was old and in some accounts, just plain worn out, has been amazing. Just hope I live long enough to watch the keel hit the water next year. Thank you
You are never boring and YABA's the luckiest chick in the world to have you and this boat yard in saving her. MP your dad is the coolest dads I have ever come across hats off to him in respect. In short U R D best, Idreece from 🇦🇺
I know I enjoyed every single episode of you guy, I was one of them that said you were fighting a lost cause. But you put me in my place by showing me I was wrong. God bless you guys . will be here when she hits the water and more.
There is simply no bad publicity anymore, is there? What a journey! From the size of those wood worms riddled through every inch of the hull to that exotic purple timber Ya Ba has been refitted with, it has been a unique story told to the world in this new personable medium. I was sucked in from the very first when you undertook that incredibly daring journey and had us all eating popcorn on the edge of our seats as we watched and bickered about how naive you both possibly were to how then smart you both were in picking up a template shell for what now looks to be a boat that is the envy of so many who want to sail and cruise the best exotic locations around the planet. But better still is not just the array of truly genuine people you both have pulled in around you to help and guide you to do the job, but the transformation of you both into internationally recognized media stars. Ooh, lu lar! So, congratulations to you both on the occasion of this strange birthday, but seriously, when is Ya Ba's splash day? You know, that's what we are all waiting for.
I remember seeing you and Yaba on @OddLifeCrafting and joined your channel as soon as you started it. I have throughly enjoyed 1000+ days of watching you and your journey. I have learned so much from your team that I have used in my wood shop, THANK YOU!!
Yuba 1000 day review was a real treat. Yes, a tremendous amount of work has been completed and you and the crew deserve a joyous hand of aplauses. Stay safe and BE HAPPY!
In my humble opinion, the greatest milestone will have to be when the rudder becomes reacquainted with the water. Love the last 1000 days, and looking forward to the big splash.
Been watching from the start and I never thought you guys would rebuild this rotten boat. Never thought you had the skills money etc etc to finish this boat and I work on boats and own a boat moorings.... I was wrong and you have done an fantastic job with simple tools and massive skills. You guys have learned so much and thanks for letting us watch the process. You should be proud... Well done
Well done with your perseverance in saving yaba, there’s so many fibre glass, steel, aluminium, boats out there today that the craft of building a wooden boat today is incredible, your right the craftsmanship of the workers in this yard is amazing I had never seen this type of work being done before, and I have been fascinated every week with what came next, to just see how they were able to cut out the old and replace with the new wow that’s been amazing, and watching you both grow like you have in your own skills is impressive well done, thank you 🙏 for taking the time to put together this incredible documentary on how you saved yaba cheers Pete ❤ Austrailia
Well what can I say 1000 days from start to how Yaba is now She is a a new Ship which you both can be very Proud of yourselves and yes you certainly did have a fantastic crew of shipwrights who helped you rebuild Yaba Nezo who was the everywhere man Cigy in mouth made the whole build come to life I wish you both many happy Sailing days on Yaba
The things you have learned in the shipyard have been priceless. You never knew what you didn’t know and were probably heading for failure if you hadn’t taken the path you have. And now you’re really ready to shove off, knowing how to fix your boat if need be. Congratulations on 1000 days of wooden boat school. Graduation coming soon!
I have to admit I felt very strange watching the transformation of Yabá from a woodpile salvage to a beautiful midsized schooner! It was very difficult to imagine, at the time, what those worm-eaten planks would be replaced by! To think back on all the work it took for each plank and each section, is so amazing! The hardest work is behind you, and the rest is more easily done by all involved. The anxiety is mounting! The end is in sight! You are soon to wake from a near nightmare and begin the dream you've waited on for so long! The part of these 1000 days I look back on with the fondest of memories is watching the attitudes of you two never faltering from the workload, and the happiness of anticipation continue to light your eyes and smiles! Now, what do I dread the most? You launch the boat for her sea trials in the river and run aground in the mud. Then while trying to back out of it, you ingest all that mud into the engine cooling system and ruin the heat exchanger and water pump and scraping your keel on the imbedded shell fish in the mud! Forewarned is forearmed!
Hi Ben and MP I am so pleased for you all the jobs and hard work you have both put in, i have been watching from the start and i am sure you will both have a wonderful life sailing yaba
I remember 6-8 months ago when my dad told me about your project and I was so worried about a young couple trying to rebuild a wooden boat. Now I wake up Sunday mornings, brew my coffee and watch your accomplishments. So looking forward to your future adventures. Congrats!!!
The ancient stoics had a saying, “The obstacle is the way”. How many people look at tasks and defeat themselves without even an attempt like you have done? Congratulations and we are looking forward to launch day!!
It would make my Christmas if you could wet (launch) the boat at Christmas, I’ve been watching from the Uk for 1000 days, brought here by odd life crafting. I have enjoyed every episode of your journey. Thank you for letting me follow along and watch truly talented boat builder rebuilt your dream.
When I first met Yaba it was thru Odd an I was hooked . When you made it to the shipyard.... Well I haven't stopped. I really adore you 4 an the shipwrights are just amazing to watch work in ole school tried an true techniques... Always stay positive an grateful... You all deserve the best!!! 😘🫂😘✌🏼💗😊
Best episode wow there has been so many I would say the whisky plank absolutely brilliant well done to everybody who has make this happen for you both you are very lucky to have such good friends❤👍🇬🇧
If I were going to sail the ocean on a yacht, I'd want to have the depth of knowledge about that yacht that you two have. VERY few sailors have that. You are blessed to have that knowledge. It will serve you well in the years to come.
I haven't commented on this in a long time, but I'm going to bring it up again. You guys have learned a lot of skills and brought Yaba back from being a piece of rotten flotsam to something resembling a sailing yacht. But, my biggest question is 'Along the way, have you consulted with a true professional Naval Architect about the design of Yaba's hull and what you plan on doing with her?' Yaba has what is known as a Displacement Hull, and that is very good, since they are usually large and rounded, and can carry a lot of weight. But, there are two significant drawbacks to a displacement hull on a sailboat. First, displacement hulls are pretty bulky. They have round bilges. The hull itself is round. It's round because that creates less resistance when moving through the water. That roundness is what makes it such a comfortable ride, even in waves. But that roundness also makes it easy to roll (think of canoes, for example). That's not a good feature in heavy weather. To offset it, sailboats have a HEAVY KEEL THAT RUNS DEEP INTO THE WATER. This counterbalances any roll, making the boat very stable. Sailboats with a long keel are very difficult to capsize. I can not emphasize this part enough. Yaba does not have a deep keel. She needs a deep keel to keep her upright, and considering the size of Yaba, You need an external deep keel for Yaba. That keel should weigh several tons, and for a boat the size of Yaba, probably needs to be 12-15' (4-5m) below the hull. Secondly, you are most certainly going to be limited on your speed. With the displacement type hull that you're using, and you would need to run a program specifically designed to take everything into consideration, it wouldn't surprise me, no matter what the wind speed, Yaba probably won't be able to do any more than 8 knots, either under sail or under power. Yaba, and her hull design, was NEVER designed to be an 'Off-Shore' sailing vessel. She is, at best, like those pirate ships coming in next to you, a day sailer designed to be run by engines and not sails, a charter vessel for a day or a couple of days at anchor. If you REALLY want to go sail around the world, either buy a new and different boat designed for ocean cruising or spend a massive amount of money on a custom-designed deep draft keel for Yaba. You can expect that keel to weigh in at anywhere between 30% and 40% of the total displacement of Yaba. On the channel 'Sampson Boat Company', rebuilding the old sailing vessel 'Tally Ho', which has a much deeper hull design than you do on Yaba, hence more stability, they used 18 TONS of external lead ballast. Tally Ho is also 8m (25 feet) or so shorter than Yaba. While she does not have a deep keel underneath the boat, her hull is a deep hull, whereas Yaba does not. Tally Ho will, because of her hull design, resist the rolling movement, whereas Yaba will roll easily unless she has a 12'-15' deep fin keel under her weighing up to 40% of the total weight of Yaba. I encourage you, urge you, before Yaba goes into the water, to consult with a professional Naval Architect to get their opinion on open water sailing in your vessel. It may very well save your lives if the calculations you've done are wrong, and she rolls over on her side and floods.
I can't recall hearing them say exactly what their plans are for the vessel when it's finished. Have they said they plan to go offshore or sail around the world? Somehow I got the impression that it was going to be used for coastal cruising and it was going to be used to take groups of people scuba diving. I think the scuba diving is really their thing. I could be wrong, and in that case you're totally right about this.
They have said repeatedly they plan on sailing around the world. Now, those plans may have changed, but even still, if they plan on putting up the sails, they had better do it in a light breeze.
If it wasn’t for the huge help from the crew there at the Marina, you wouldn’t have all of this wonderful work done!! Hats off to the wonderful crew…wonderful!😊
It's been a long haul to get where you are. But you must have a great feeling of satisfaction to have basically built a wooden boat from scratch. Congrats on your accomplishments, and can't wait to see you in the water!
The engine rebuild was great but so much has been a joy to watch, I think your staying power is awesome you make my Sunday, keep up the great work can't wait for splash time. 😊😊💦⛵⚓
I just happend to look at a youtube video with a young cuple who went to look at a plastic sailing boat, but close there was also this wreck of an old big wooden boat that they fell in love with and motord it to a shipbuilding place in the south of Brasil. And I was amazed at the problems reveald there. I have been following the fantastic work you two and the shipbuilders have put in to get Yaba to the fantastic beauty she have become! I wish you the best! Greetings from Hans in Sweden.
Long time subscriber, but didn't watch too regularly. Now after binging the last year's worth of videos, I'm all caught up and can't wait to see you land in the water. Fair winds guys.
Congratulations Ben & MP! We have been with you from the beginning when Roberta & Duca talked you into starting a UA-cam channel and so happy they did. We have loved following you guys each and every 1000 days. 🎉🎉
That is without a doubt one of the best UA-cam videos I have ever watched. Well done to you and the team. I look so forward to catching up on your progress each week. I have watched and liked from the very beginning. keep up the good work. Cheers Terry from down under.
Awesome stuff fellas, glad I came along for the ride!! I'll still be watching when all you're doing is playing, sailing and enjoying the fruits of 1000 days+ labour! 😜
It so awesome that you have your coming to a finish in the near future . You to have done things that some many can see themselves doing through you to. Love you both for all this and waiting for future travels keep on sharing ❤️
I take my hat off to all of you, it’s been awesome watching you all, since the beginning, love your videos every week, take care everyone.😊😊😊😊😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Woah, I can’t believe I’ve been here from the first episode and it’s been that long. I remember all the naysayers who said you’d never get in the water with the way the boat yard was going about the reconstruction; fooling them huh?! lol. Congratulations and looking forward to more episodes and adventures to come. Positivity will win out in the long run!
I’m currently 9 years into my boat building project. Leukemia and years of severe chronic pain and fatigue got in the way😢, but my boat comes out of the shop in the spring of 2024, finally! It’s been worth it 😊
And what you have is better boat than when it was new. You have added parts of yourselves to the craft that make it so special. As you move forward, use extra care and caution so that nothing challenges your success. You should know that you bring smiles to the faces of others. Keep on sailing!
Happy Thousand days!!! Been following since the beginning and feel like everything has its time and everyone a place to be. This whole adventure has you prepared to live a much less stressful life out on the water. things on boats break but being prepared to address those issues means they should happen less frequently and not be catastrophic when they do! i am excited to see you back on the water spearfishing your protein and having even more fun than you can imagine. Cheers!!!
Right from the first day in the ship yard I have been impressed by the skills of the ship wrights, using fairly basic tools. And I have watched MP and Ben gradually grow in confidence and developed skills. You guys have experienced the most practical apprenticeship in boat building and repair it is possible to have. My favourite boat builders.
Funny to think the keel was going to be the hard part. Only to find it was actually the easy part. You have done well and kept going. Keep being awesome team.
It has been wonderful to be able to watch you rebuild Yaba, and in the process become skilled in many things that will be valuable once you are on the water! It has been a fascinating 1000 days and I am looking forward to many more days watching you in your future adventures!! Thank you for my Sunday morning coffee with Yaba!!! ❤
I love how Yaba turned out so far. Crazy to think it's been that long. Feels like yesterday I saw you guys sail up to that shipyard. I do have to say, it's a thought that crosses my mind every time I look at it. The bridge windows. They are sloped but I would've changed that to an inward slope (inverted) or perfectly straight. That way you eliminate sunglare and heavy rains have less effect > more visibility. Keep up the good work you two! Best rebuild series I'm subscribed to yet.
Hi guys I have been watching your progress from almost the beginning, I watched Duca and Roberta refitting Odd and they posted a link to you. I watch a lot of boatbuilding and sailing UA-cam channels, Tally Ho, Expedition Evans, Ship Happens, Brupeg, Parlay Revival, Salt and Tar, Sailing Magic carpet, MJ Sailing Acorn to Arabella, life on the Hulls, Adventurers of an Old Sea Dog to name a few but every Sunday dinnertime whatever I am doing I try to get online to watch you guys. I just love how far you have both come from not knowing the correct terminology of things (I understand that English is neither of your first language) and well done for that, to both of you for taking a much more active part in rebuilding Yaba But I have to say my favourite moment was when Caillou started climbing the ladder to be with you both. Keep up the good work and looking forward to going afloat at Christmas.
Thank you for showing life can be enjoyable. Your boat is like a planet that have two sons that light up the way for lifes Joey's. Hope this makes sense.
I’ve been following you since your very first video. Congratulations on your very inspirational story. And on the adoption of your two dogs. It shows what good people you are. Cheers from Manhattan Beach, California, USA!
I’m a certified professional welder foreman in the Louisiana oilfield! And I think you did pretty dang good job welding up whatever you needed too! Great job!
What a great episode! I know it has been a gruesome long time, but the reward is a solid boat that will give you as many years of enjoyment on the seas!
Once you finish resurrecting Yaba it will really be something both of you and your families will be proud of. Just think, YOU'RE ALMOST THERE and we'll be waiting. Hoping you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving Day. Your 1000th day is your Thanksgiving,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Yabá is an amazing collaboration between you guys and the men/millwrights/mechanics there ❤! I was captivated by the worm infestation that crippled her and then amazed at the ability to replace the whole framework 😅! As a mechanic for the past 50 years and a lover of Mercedes Benz since the 60’s, I was smiling the whole time while you rebuilt the engine. I know that engine will be a reliable and excellent part of your new home on the sea 😊. Great work and dedication and patience guys 👏 😃!
Hi guys, one of the greatest things of pulling a boat apart and putting it back together, you know exactly what you’ve got, and if you would have just budgeted it up. I believe you would I still have heaps of problems, but this way universally rebuilt the boat from new from the motor and gearbox and haul it reminds me a bit like tally Ho 114 years old yacht that they’ve nearly finished Anderson. About to go back in the water just like you guys I think it won’t take long now to finish off little bits and pieces and get Yaba back in the water
I would suggest that the gap between the rear of the keel and base of the rudder should be closed with a bronze plate and pintle into the rudder. the reason is that any ropes or nets that you will eventually cross will become entangled in both the rudder and prop!
We shared our favourite moments of this journey, but we want to hear from you! Let us know your favourite moment/scene/memory of Yabá's rebuild!
As a retired boat mechanic, I loved the entire motor series . The fact you did not tear apart a good engine!!
My favourite part was when you tell us what you paid for Yaba. The costs of repairs, replacements and labour for All the guys who worked to get Yaba seaworthy again.... I have to know?

I'm so glad you mentioned learning by doing things wrong. It's only by truly understanding what doesn't work that learning takes place.
Fav scenes....when smile on your face everytime something is accomplished and when you adopted the dogs:)
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the 1,000 great shows with my morning coffee. Tony C.
Thank you so much for following and supporting our journey, Tony!
Happy 1000 days!
Thanks!
She looks great and your skills have increased a lot. The shipyard crew are amazing and ive loved the 1000 days. Best boat rebuild ever.
Thank you very much!

Tak!
What an accomplishment. You are definitely a breath of fresh air.
Our favorite day is yet to come. The day it goes in the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have watched you'll every Sunday evening for the last 2 yrs
You are never boring and YABA's the luckiest chick in the world to have you and this boat yard in saving her. MP your dad is the coolest dads I have ever come across hats off to him in respect. In short U R D best, Idreece from 🇦🇺

Well done ..The (Re) build of the rotten hull from the bottom up certainly was the highlight of the whole thing....
You two have basically built a new ship underneath an old wheelhouse. Yaba will sail again. She is looking amazing. Congratulations 🎉
Rebuilding a wood boat is building a new boat with an old one in the way. (Quote from a Maine boat works)
@@williamoorejrTHAT sir resonates incredibly well😂👍💪

Sometimes I watch your videos in my home cinema. Today I realize that the sound in your videos is really good compared most other videos on UA-cam.

You guys are fun and awesome. Your non compromise attitude is great.❤😊
congratulations, you have also entertained me for a thousand days and I have also learned many skills watching you guys learn.
You had taken a big job on. Credit to both of you a brilliant result.
You did great and Yabá is sooo beautiful now. I cannot wait to see her sail under the full sail. Keep up and thanks for all the great videos. 👍

Yes, I agree, these two young folks are pretty Lovable too. Beautiful works everyone.
never missed even ONE EPISODE my Sunday ritual love ACE
It's been a long haul to get where you are. But you must have a great feeling of satisfaction to have basically built a wooden boat from scratch. Congrats on your accomplishments, and can't wait to see you in the water!
Thank you so much for following and supporting our journey, Mike!
She looks absolutely lovely you all have done a fantastic job, WELL DONE.
Thank you so much!!
Wow, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
1000 days woh I am speechless love all of you and your wonderful work
Awesome stuff fellas, glad I came along for the ride!!
So crazy to realize it’s been 1000 days. Been here from the beginning, and will be here till the end. Love the journey
Finding the amazing shipwrights was a fantastic milestone.
Indeed!
Oh! She’s just so beautiful!❤🎉
Thanks!
Good luck with your timeline and may you sail into the new year.
Thank you so much Duane!! We would love to welcome 2024 on board!
It also makes you appreciate what you have, Good Luck! on the splash.
Been with you guys since intro with "Odd Life", gratz on 1000 days. You got me smiling for 20 minutes this episode
Knowing this episode made you smile means everything to us! Thank you so much!!
Same here - this rebuild has been amazing since Day 1.
I’m so used to fiberglass boats I didn’t even know shipwrights still existed.
I just love how far you have both come from not knowing the correct terminology of things (I understand that English is neither of your first language) and well done for that, to both of you for taking a much more active part in rebuilding Yaba
But I have to say my favourite moment was when Caillou started climbing the ladder to be with you both.
Congreadulations on a thousand days of restorations on Yaba. You must have well over a thousand dollars invested in her restoration already. Good job.
I’m a certified professional welder foreman in the Louisiana oilfield! And I think you did pretty dang good job welding up whatever you needed too! Great job!
Then you have to be a Tigers fan! Geaux Tigers!
From the begining, I've enjoyed the build. I'm looking forward to the sails being put on and seeing Yaba on a beam reach
You two are very inspiring! 👏 👍
What a great episode! I know it has been a gruesome long time, but the reward is a solid boat that will give you as many years of enjoyment on the seas!
In the beginning. I thought y’all had an impossible task. I’m so glad that y’all kept going. I love what y’all have accomplished.
Congratulations on 1000 days on the dry !!!
Once you finish resurrecting Yaba it will really be something both of you and your families will be proud of. Just think, YOU'RE ALMOST THERE and we'll be waiting. Hoping you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving Day. Your 1000th day is your Thanksgiving,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Wooooooow! Even the POSSIBILITY of a Christmas float is amazing! Holding thumbs for you!!!
We are soe excited! Thank you so much!
Congratulations on 1000 days! I really love each and every one of your episodes! Thank you!
Wow! Hard to believe it's already been 1000 days.. waiting for that moment we put her back in the water!
Been with you since day one!
Congratulations, she looks Beautiful.
Nice work guys!!
Love ur show💥❤️
Hi guys, one of the greatest things of pulling a boat apart and putting it back together, you know exactly what you’ve got, and if you would have just budgeted it up. I believe you would I still have heaps of problems, but this way universally rebuilt the boat from new from the motor and gearbox and haul it reminds me a bit like tally Ho 114 years old yacht that they’ve nearly finished Anderson. About to go back in the water just like you guys I think it won’t take long now to finish off little bits and pieces and get Yaba back in the water
so now I've got to go back and start the adventure again😊😊😊😊
I've watched every episode; your endurance is an inspiration. Thank you.
I would suggest that the gap between the rear of the keel and base of the rudder should be closed with a bronze plate and pintle into the rudder. the reason is that any ropes or nets that you will eventually cross will become entangled in both the rudder and prop!
you two are wonderful.... crazy as hell, but wonderful... congratulations and THANK YOU for taking us all along for the journey ;)
Thank you so much for following our journey!!
