When you order pork souvlaki it usually comes with tomatoes, onions, french fries and tzatziki sauce. When you order the chicken one they usually put tomato, lettuce, french fries and a mustard sauce instead of tzatziki. Both are very good!!
The gyro in Greece is always served with fries, the lettuce on gyro is usually served with the chicken gyro. In the US I noticed the ones I’ve had were mostly made from doner meat which is different. Very nice video! 😊
I have never seen a chicken gyro served with lettuce. Just the usual assortment of stuff that goes in the pork one as well. It may be a southern Greece thing but having spent all my life in the northern part of the country, I've never encountered it.
nice videos man :) glad you enjoyed Thessaloniki's hospitality and we want people to know that we welcome and treat warmly every single stranger of this world in our city!
Bougatsa with minced meat is kinda common in Thessaloniki but throughout Greece the most common bougatsa is with cream, usually with added sugar and cinnamon. Also as a dairy extra, chocolate milk is quite usual but it would send you traight to toilet. Ariani is a bit healthier alternative but kinda rare. Rice with the pastiggio seems weird but it's common in some dishes to add some rice or french fries as a cheap way to increase the size of the dish. Also, pastigio isn't really street food as oyu can't eat it on the street. In fact, you may find it on Sunday table by your grandma. But it is kinda common in taverns that serve food for home. Bread is sometimes free in such places and if you asked for more perhaps you'd get some for free. Gyros is usually pork and usually served with tzatziki as the one here. That's a typical gyros. Lettuce is very uncommon in gyros but I have to add that I used to get gyros with lettuce just a few minutes walk from the place of this place. I don't find it in my city though. French fries in the gyros is a rule too. You can get a dish of gyros meat of course but in the sandwich a basic ingredient will be french fries.
Great video my man 👏🏻 I’m Greek and I live in the USA. You did very well with your choices. I’ve seen your videos from Greece and I wanna say thank you for advertising my country.

@@perseusarkouda yeah, Northern Greece in general has been a home for Turks, Slavs, Albanians, Aromanians and Greeks at the same time. We were also less influenced by Venice, Genoa and other western powers than the south. The south, which is both more ethnically homogeneous and more influenced by Italians and other westerners is the "Mediterranean paradise" that people think of when they hear Greece. You'll find that they're better at making pasta and seafood whereas we in the North are better at middle eastern, asia minor and local Balkan cousine.

Mate, amazing video glad to see you enjoying real greek food. For the gyros you can choose and put in whatever ingredients you like, but usually we wont stray from the classic '1 gyro ap'ola please' (pita, gyro, tzatziki, tomato, onions, fries) but me for example i only switch the sauce because i dont eat tzatziki too often.
So good to see you enjoy our food. I am laughing at how LOUD Greeks sound while you are trying to enjoy your nice meal, I know so many places more civilized at that. Thanks and all the best.
A small tip from personal experience 😂 NEVER ever eat bougatsa cream with milko (chocolate milk) unless you don’t intend to go somewhere else and you will stay in your home. In the beginning it’ll be all good and delicious but after some time, your colon will be crying for help 😅. In Greek we call it "πριονοκορδέλα", I think you got the meaning by now… (if you translate it in English letter by letter, and not by it’s meaning, it’ll be something like "band saw")

Do you know a place serving Patzarosalata ?
@@rovexbrendan466beetroot is a winter vegetable, all restaurants serve it then, but I believe that even now you can find it especially in taverns that serve fried cod such as Aristos in the harbor

So I tried making Greek beetroot salad from recipes i found, and was left disappointed each and every time.
I’ll definitely be doing a ‘food tour’ of sorts next time i’m in Thessaloniki. Best wishes.
@@rovexbrendan466 try making the simplest recipe i.e. salt, olive oil, half a clove of grated garlic(optionally), 1-2 tablespoons of simple cheap vinegar (white or red) or alternatively a simple balsamic vinegar
it is important that the vinegar you use does not have added flavours. Usually this is how taverns serve it, unless it's with yogurt then they add some walnuts too. I hope I was helpful 😋

When you order pork souvlaki it usually comes with tomatoes, onions, french fries and tzatziki sauce. When you order the chicken one they usually put tomato, lettuce, french fries and a mustard sauce instead of tzatziki. Both are very good!!
In Thessaloniki it's ketchup + mustard instead of tzatziki.

Welcome to Greece! You are going to love our hospitality and our cuisine.
I'm glad whenever I see someone from another country coming to Greece
The gyro in Greece is always served with fries, the lettuce on gyro is usually served with the chicken gyro. In the US I noticed the ones I’ve had were mostly made from doner meat which is different. Very nice video! 😊
Auta einai shawarma re to araviko
I have never seen a chicken gyro served with lettuce. Just the usual assortment of stuff that goes in the pork one as well. It may be a southern Greece thing but having spent all my life in the northern part of the country, I've never encountered it.
LETTUCE???
donner meat is beef and in some places like Serres you will be able to choose it but not in every place in Greece
@@dhoelath6648 In southern Greece we USED to serve chicken gyro with lettuce. But it was only around 2005-2011 in which I was served with lettuce.
nice videos man :) glad you enjoyed Thessaloniki's hospitality and we want people to know that we welcome and treat warmly every single stranger of this world in our city!
Beautiful country, tasty food, awesome people. I love Greece ❤🇬🇷
As a Greek I can confirm it is worth to visit Greece and eat the local food. I hope you will visit us again. ✨

Thank you for spending your effort and time to create such beautiful videos for our country. Thessaloniki has amazing food, here in Athens we are not as strong as them!

Bro...u are as strong as us...but for the same quality someone has to pay more in Athens...that's the only difference
@@apollontv1078 Thessaloniki is simply better at food. It's not a coincidence though, it's because Thessaloniki was always a crossroad of multiple cultures and their cuisines.

And it was the perfect mix lol

Thanks for trying greek food man!! We really appreciate the credit and ghe interest you give our country in every video. One of the best places to visit in Greece.
as someone from greece, let me tell you, souvlaki is one of the best things you can eat out there, probably the best greek food
Thank you for your good words,i am from Thessaloniki.
Next time,no gyros without tomato and onions!❤
Thank you sir for the GREAT content!
