You are amazing. Dealing with all the physical ailments and, as soon as you feel better, making a video for us. The older I get, the more I want to simplify all of my "stuff" so I can use all of my energy on people and on experiences. Always so glad to see you.
Thank you! I did not need a new sweater but I was out shopping with my twelve-year-old granddaughter who needed something and she saw them, and said that all the cool kids are wearing those now, and we should get them to match! That's what we did! 😊😊😊 I guess I finally get to be one of the cool kids! 🤣
I find non-minimalism aggravating. I've been a hoarder and I've been a minimalist, and minimalism generally made me feel better about myself. My home looked clean and tidy almost all of the time, even with two teens. I have backslidden considerably since those days, mostly due to running a collectibles business for 20 years. So many beautiful things in the world! And of course now, the things that I swoon over are no longer desired by 99% of Americans, so I have boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff that I personally admire, nobody else wants, and I will never get around to using now that I'm almost 70!
There are indeed many beautiful things in the world. And many sentimental things in the world. Declattering is not easy..... I can't even imagine how much I would have accumulated if I had run a collectibles store for 20 years! Maybe it would help to go through them and select the ones you know you love and would want to keep and put them in a separate place. And then you could start little-by-little decluttering the others with the knowledge in the back of your mind that you didn't choose them to keep? Erica Lucas here on UA-cam calls that "reverse decluttering".... And I find it to be a great strategy!
thank you! good to see you again. and its true. there is no set rule. but for me, i got tired of not finding things. and still reducing. and if i have to move, it will easier on EVERYONE. not breaking backs and hours up n down stairs. greatly puts my mind at ease.
So good to see your video and that you’re feeling better. I’m glad that the tens unit is helping you. We spent Easter with my daughter and husband. It was so nice. While we were there, I helped her go through her clothes. She got rid of a fair amount. Now I need to go through mine again.
Happy your having a good day. Thank you for your video. I myself don't have a problem with excess clothing. But oh, my kitchen is far from minimal. However I do use it all. So right now I'm ok with it. I can however go right to what I want. I usually prefer to call myself a simplest as I strive more towards minimal. I'm so happy when I find others who want minimal decorations. Very uncomfortable around excessive decorations.
One of my daughters is pretty minimal in a lot of areas, but loves to cook, and so has a ton, and I do mean a ton LOL, of kitchen stuff.... But like you, it is very organized and she knows where everything is, so it works. It is only "clutter" when it is stuff we don't actually use. Anyway, that's my feeling about it. Some other minimalists would probably disagree, but that's okay. 😊
Got a few chuckles out of this. So good to see you again. I have some health problems too and minimalism certainly makes my life so much simpler and easier to manage.
Glad to see you back on UA-cam. I'm inspired to declutter more. I recently found "winter clothing" that I didn't even remember I had. Well that tells me that some of my clothes need to go. LOL. As my husband and I are getting older I need to have less stuff to manage.
I got the fanny pack for a purse idea from you, and I love it. I put just what I need in it. Perfection. If I travel, I keep things in the car that I may need. Have got rid of a lot of things and still have a way to go. Life got in the way, once I started but hope to get back to it this week. Thank you. Peace!
Great job with the Tens unit Catherine. As I was listening to today's pod cast . I couldn't help but think about all your other pod casts on why you went in the direction of minimalism...after rewatching some they really do help to release that fear of being bored and replacing it with an increased sense of freedom...thanks again. PS...you look great and will pray with you that the area causing pain and discomfort is quickly healed..are you familiar with red light therapy..?
Glad you had a good day. Hope your health challenges resolve. Your videos have helped me on my decluttering journey. I won't be leaving a whole lot of stuff for the kids to deal with when I'm gone. Love the video "the kids don't want your stuff" and the one on Swedish death cleaning. More power to you Katherine. Cheers from Australia.
I appreciate you so much and all your wisdom about minimalism. I have been a collector of stuff for years. I manage to keep it tidy and clean but I am tired of doing it every few months. It worries me when I can’t or don’t keep it like I expect. Did you sell your stuff or just give it away. A lot of mine came from my husband’s family and I have kept it in cabinets for years. Plus I have collected things I prefer and have them displayed. My children show no interest for their grandparents things but they are nice and valuable. What should I do?
This is a difficult process because we seem to experience a certain amount of guilt about decluttering our parents' stuff... Especially if they are gone. I went through several declutters of that kind of stuff, finally getting down to the place where I chose 1 or 2 things that I really loved, and represented the person, and just kept those. I sold some of it, but honestly, as you said, there is not a lot of interest at the moment in antiquey type things.... except maybe in very specialized markets. So the best of it I donated to charity shops around where I live where they use the money to help people in a need or a charitable organization. And the rest I took to Goodwill after throwing away the stuff that was actually broken or missing parts or whatever. It is not an easy thing and it takes time.
My eye doctor said I'm close to being legally blind. I've got to prepare for my near future by decluttering and working on a capsule wardrobe. I understand what you are going through. You are a blessing to share and help others.
@patriciastukel3915 I do find a capsule wardrobe to be particularly helpful when it comes to my vision. You can pretty much know that everything will work with everything else and not have to rely on your eyes as much. And you can incorporate rules like all solid color neutral bottoms if you want to have patterns in your tops.... Or vice versa. Just makes life easier when seeing is difficult. 😊
I feel like almost all of us have been there! But little-by-little, you can make your closet into a place that brings you satisfaction instead of stress. 🤍
You are amazing. Dealing with all the physical ailments and, as soon as you feel better, making a video for us.
The older I get, the more I want to simplify all of my "stuff" so I can use all of my energy on people and on experiences.
Always so glad to see you.
And that's the big point for me, using the energy we have for the people, experiences, and goals that are most important to us! 🤍
I hope you continue to feel better! Health is unpredictable and its very frustrating at times. That smiley face sweater is lovely!
Thank you! Hi Kathryn it’s great to see you!! I will take minimalism over chaos any day!! I will say I still struggle putting together a well curated wardrobe.
I still struggle with that as well! I am 59 and I'm only just now starting to figure out what kind of clothes actually work for me! It's a process!
thank you! good to see you again. and its true. there is no set rule. but for me, i got tired of not finding things. and still reducing. and if i have to move, it will easier on EVERYONE. not breaking backs and hours up n down stairs. greatly puts my mind at ease.
It definitely does relieve a lot of stress! Awesome work! 🤍

Catherine - your practical words resonate with me - the “stuff” is making me feel trapped.
One step at a time, you can find more and more freedom from that feeling of being trapped! 🤍
Blessings!! ❤
I’m thankful for your words. You’re my favorite person for minimalistic advice
Wow, thank you!! And blessings back at you!

I love minimalism! Still working on it. It certainly has opened up my time and sense of not being dragged down by 'stuff'. More to go!
Stuff takes a lot of energy! That's for sure.
