It's a bit of a douche move, thoughtless at best, to add/change a notable physical attribute of someone else pc. Ashley's great and I'm sure she'll ignore or embrace it though.
Liam almost always stays in character, even holding position like that. He did the same when Vax was cradling Scanlan in C1 and when Caleb was unconscious in C2.
I just have to say, Travis is a fantastic role player and improv partner, in part because he's so good at picking up Matt's prompts and then running with them to strange and entertaining places.
On tonight's episode of Critical Role: One Bafta award winning actress impersonates another Bafta award winning actress, Werewolf Chetney ASMR, and *extreme panic*
Was just about to comment this. Ashton makes a big show of a big fuck-off not-giving-a-shit attitude, but there's probably no one on this group that cares more about other people than Ashton. Which only really makes me wonder how he actually feels about the Nobodies, and what made him this way in the present. I think of all the characters, getting Ashton's story is what I'm curious about the most.
@@ducksplain ya no, the ashton fan club really wearing some rose tinted glasses..Laudna and Imogen have shown care for both each other and the older woman, Orym's shown care for nearly everyone and his entire fighting style is about keeping friends out of harms way, Dorian cared for everyone too especially his brother, FCG is literally a therapist bot who plays a cleric who can absorb dmg others take, Chetney clearly cares about the party and Ferrn is just a natural wild card...Ashton forces "fuck" into every other sentence and guards his undoubtedly boring but unfortunately relevant backstory while fiercely probing others for theirs.
@@ducksplain Same! I assume it's this classic of "Low status street child, possibly orphaned. Everyone is fucking them over, so your chosen family is the only thing that matters" to "even his chosen family abandoned him (even though he said he is fine with that). So now, everyone is trash. Better not care about anyone and anything, to not get hurt again." So atm, he is trying to treat people like he treats horses (not naming them/trying not to get attached, because they will die anyways). And this "slowly healing to accept people back into your life" is just -chefs kiss-. Can't wait to see him go all the way to "do not fcking touch my people! No one messes with them but me!"
@@bowserbrowser6559 This isn't about who is the most affectionate character. This is about this one specific trope and their potential for character growth. If that's not your thing, fine. But that also doesn't mean that I'm not as well excited to see how the Laudna/Imogen cuteship evolves. You can like more than one thing, you know; and just because I posted about liking apples, doesn't mean I hate pears.
I honestly believe that Matt and Travis are building up this potential conflict, and/or major plot point with Ultgar, only to have it be something completely insignificant that Chetney and all Ultgar's apprentices have blown completely out of proportion
Watching them do the room bit and Chetney just going "Hit em again" after Matt keeps screaming in agony every time they immolate someone was both dark and utterly hilarious. They trap Bells Hells in a room with murder golems, Bells Hells partially traps them in a room and repeatedly set it on fire.
Technically they didn’t trap the other team in that room, their exit was not blocked by any means, just that they didn’t get out before the trap was triggered a second time
Eh they're all having fun so that's what matters, but he railroaded them hard with that considering they vocally stated they were making it look like they didn't go that way so the "other team" shouldn't have known to do that to that door. They've also dispelled magical items before without it ever being a problem. Matt sometimes arbitrarily forces things to happen during encounters. It's his game so its his prerogative but it kinda robs those encounters of some tension once you notice that pattern.
The entire scene with Chet and Zadro is just pure gold. The subtleties of their voices and everything had me just rolling in laughter. well done matt and travis!
@@dawiddulian2403Alternatively, they could be talking about the first fight with the Briarwoods at the dinner party. It might not be the exact scene, but it is another example of Vex getting crazy dice rolls when her brother was in danger.
As a child, I had a piggy bank that was a small yellow robot. You put the coin in his hand and it would automatically put it in the mouth and "swallow" it down. I feel like Sam had the same toy as a child.
53:05-53:26 is legit one of the funniest things I've ever hear. Travis's high pitched meltdown at the realization that the other team are just as sneaky as them is the best.
It really hits home how iconic and fey Fearne is that it takes many of Ashley's closest friends - professional voice actors all - several hours to come up with a recognizable impression.
@@sobieckil07 absolutely Fearne benefits from Ashley regularly being there! (We all do, but I digress.) Ironically, Fearne is the best designed for absences of all of Ashley's characters. Fearne has a natural excuse to wander off and very little roleplaying overhead, which Ashley has said was intentional. In a way, she's so chaotic that it loops around to a kind of zen. But we've seen hints of Fearne in Ashley all along. Pike had OOC moments of egging on the chaos, particularly in the late game Feywild jaunt. Yasha had her crayon comment. Perhaps it's just that Ashley is fey in the way that Taliesin is eldritch.
@@rafis117 I agree. I cannot shake off an impression that Faerne is to Ashley what Jester was to Laura: character they barely have to roleplay, because they were designed to act like them without "the filter". Pure child-like chaos and energy.
Fearne is 100% Ashley leaning into her button pusher side. Matt has said that he counts on Travis and Ashley to be the ones to push the big red button knowing it’s probably bad.
@sobieckil07 this may explain why jester and fearne are not just my favorite critical role characters, but two of my favorite characters of all time. Something so sincere in their chaos.
I just noticed this episode and last weeks episode both end with ellipses, just like all of the plaques at the museum and I absolutely love that subtle little Easter egg
It's beautiful how Travis gets possessed by Grog for a split second every time someone rages. Plus, Chetney essentially has a werewolf rage. Truly powerful.
That was actually quite a morally awful move and waaaay too metagame-y for me. I mean roleplaying wise, It didn't really make sense. "lets crisp them once more, they first fall to 0 HP and not die right away". And if it was not metagaming then it was just straight up super cruel, burning people again and again while they scream.
@@bhaaI You say that like the Verdict didn't just locked them in with 2 giant clay golems in the same room. While, yes, it could be seem as cruel, I just see this as poetic justice. Tis my opinion, of course, and it's just a game.
@@TheGoldenJay637 I do not think it is the same to burn people alive using set up traps or you can fight for your life at least against the threat (and only in brackets, it was a fight that they could win). Of course it is just a game, and I didn't judge the player's (Laura) morals, I just think that specific instance was heavily questionable from the viewpoints I mentioned and I was personally put off.
@@bhaaI personally the only thing that I found was a metagamey was travis/chetney being super eager to push the button the third time but even then it's not exactly like it was super out of character either with him constantly making "jokes"/implying the need to take people out. Even the first two times felt pretty warranted to me seeing as how their whole plan was to make them back off with the trap from the beginning. I can understand why people would say the third time was overkill but people make it sound like Laura/Imogen was doing it maliciously even tho it didn't seem like the case and she seemed somewhat unsure. Even afterwards Ashton was obviously upset with just how dangerous the traps turned out to be even tho they were told they wouldn't be lethal and made sure they stabilized the other team. With your point that they could've won I'd agree but not by a landslide and I don't think they were too keen on getting into a huge team fight considering their other plans were to try and trick them to avoid a big fight.
@@giancarlocigaral4307 By the time they came up with the plan of using the traps against them, they knew very well, the traps can be lethal. If chetney were the one pushing it, I wouldn't have mentioned this but it was Imogen. Finally, you misunderstood my point. The previous guy said that burning the Verdict was completely okay, because they closed them in with the golems which is obviously very much not the same, that is what I pointed out. They could win against the golems (clearly, they did) but turning a room into flames suddenly when they believe they avoided the traps is not something they can do anything about. They were shocked and devastated, they didn't even realize that it was the Bell's hells who almost killed them all.
The Verdict: A highly trained unit of thieves and burglars, likely with years of experience and complex backstories Imogen with a lion-shaped flamethrower: IMMA END THEIR WHOLE CAREER I feel like with Laura playing both Imogen and Fearne, she's slowly going back to Jester
*spoilers?* I hope someone else mentioned how absolutely CLUTCH Imogen’s Command at the beginning of initiative was, it definitely saved someone’s life this game
Given that the spoiler is for something that happened _in_ the episode the comment is on, I’d argue that a spoiler tag is unnecessary (thoughtful an kind for sure, but unnecessary) If someone reads the comments on the video before watching the entire video, any spoilers they come across is on them

They have made a forever enemy with him. He is eccentric enough, vain enough, rich enough, and seems easily bored, he will stop at nothing to get his revenge.
Either that or he'll try a couple times before getting bored and finding a new shiny to occupy his time. Besides, he may be more likely to target the Lady since they represented her in this game.
He also can't know for certain it was them. He could just as easily blame the Verdict, and unless they don't scoot before he realizes his papers are gone, he couldn't interrogate them to find out. And since Ashton made sure to lock the drawer again, he wouldn't have any reason to think the papers had gone missing, so they'd have time to get away. And you know Hexam isn't about to rat the Bells out if they show her the documents that prove his artifacts are fake; she'd find a much more punishing way to use that information against him. I think they're good, for now...
@@QuesoCookies They also stole a helmet and journal exhibit, its more immediately obvious those are gone compared to the papers That’s said, I agree with you, Hexum will probably cover for them, if only because it hurts Hytroga more
All the stuff they stole was fake or not actually that big of a deal. As long as there's not evidence they told anyone what they know, I would think he would try not to piss them off so they stay quiet about it and keep his secret.
2:52:17 "You can feel that sticky sort of residue on the inside of your shoes and your boots, where both the sweat from the night and whatever else you stepped into making your w... path to the space..." Nice save Matt.
Yeah that was cool. Though I AM rather surprised they didn't think, "You know what we should do? Let the Druid Main play the Druid." I mean, was I the only one thinking, "Why isn't Marisha handling Fearne today?" Of everyone at the table, Marisha would be the one most likely to know what she's doing with the character. Just me?
@@ForeverDegenerate Marisha doesn’t even know when keyleth was born and c1 was a WHILE ago now and fearne seems like a very diff kind of Druid that Kiki was 😂 I think Laura just was the first one to volunteer

But hey, if Laura was the first to volunteer, that's fair play.
I am really enjoying how Taliesin is playing Ashton as a lot more low-key ethical than I originally expected. Like the whole "you don't steal copper" thing, and him being willing to hold back and run defense for the other party members who genuinely need it (like Dorian getting knocked out as opposed to Fearne wanting to stay behind in the lab to maybe loot it), and now this.
@@samuraiko yeah, I love that twist too, he is a thief with a defined code, and he watches out for others much more than he shows, such a cool character ^^
So many great moments in this episode, but EASILY three of my favorites are Ashton's putting his foot down about being used and lied to (and how he steps up re: the Verdict near the end), and Orym's two bait-and-switches (just because I love seeing Liam in both the agony and ecstasy of dice rolls). Bonus points to Sam for the Milgram Experiment reference!
My theory is that Chetney is either part of or used to be part of a like secret society of wood carvers ala the Volunteer Firefighters from A Series of Unfortunate Events

@@bhaaI You say that like the Verdict didn't just locked them in with 2 giant clay golems in the same room. While, yes, it could be seem as cruel, I just see this as poetic justice. Tis my opinion, of course, and it's just a game.

@@bhaaI personally the only thing that I found was a metagamey was travis/chetney being super eager to push the button the third time but even then it's not exactly like it was super out of character either with him constantly making "jokes"/implying the need to take people out.

@@shrubninja6444 NIghtmare before Critmas is not canon, though the story may be similar.
@@eric_moore-6126 Yeah it just seems like it's basically the same backstory from what we've seen. Probably replace Santa with Ultgar as a toymaker overlord.
@@shrubninja6444 from what I've seen from the show 4 sided dive its their way to incorporate the one shot without saying there's Santa. Due to theres no Santa in Exandria

Look, I know it's not the funniest but puns are just so satisfying when they almost stretch a bit too far.

The Crit-Role gang going "We love you Ashley~!" in the beginning is peak friendship-goals. Get you a friend group like the crit-role gang
The fact that they obviously do all love each other makes the experience so much better
And then proceed to leave her character behind to contend with a pair of clay golems, lol

Sad not seeing Ashley 😢 It was only a matter of time before someone at the table got Covid, but hopefully she bounces back without issue
So far, she’s asymptomatic
Please stop giving me mean comments. My mother reads the comments I get and she cries a lot because of it. Please be nice, dear I thbd
unless you're dieing already you'll be fine had it twice it's not that bad really
She's asymptomatic at least. I think it's Brian who had symptoms, and she said he's getting better now, so it looks like both of them are pulling through just fine.
@@AxxLAfriku what are you talking about? I don't see any mean comments.

I love how Matt just reassures them that it’s looking hurt each time they do any damage. What a supportive DM 😂
Nothing could have prepared me for the YASSIFY’s on Sam’s flask
I want a side-by-side slideshow of the original pics and the Yassified versions.

Both Marisha and Taliesin broke the ropes during their respective pins. I'm starting to think this hand wrestling league isn't a reputable organization after all.
“Is this bad?”
It’s a little late to ask that after you’ve char broiled them three times.
Reminds me of campaign 2 when they asked if they were the bad guys LOL
Right?! Yes it's freakin bad! Just like shooting people as they run away is bad. If you're going to do it at least own it

what is being yassified?
@@zingerella9155 “Yassify” comes from the exclamation “yass” (internet slang for “yes”). To yassify means to transform someone, usually via facetuning apps, to fit into the beauty standards popularized by internet figures like the Kardashians
Matt made selfies canon in Exandria.
I hope he knows what he did ;)
He also made Bitcoin cannon as well.

Exandria, the D&D world that is like Final Fantasy.
Selfies have been canon in Exandria since VM referenced selfie sticks. XD
I like to think of this as those godawful "I love Graphic design"/ green screen edits on facebook 🤣
I think the first time they took selfies was when VM first stepped into an airship to vasselheim♡

The team is so genuinely likes to play Fearne while Ashley is out! So much energy when they mimic her voice and do Fearne stuff! Such a great character indeed!
Can we please talk about the existance of some kind of underground Toy-maker circle / mafia? what even is this? IS this like John Wick and if you know you know? xD thanks travis i will never forget the toy-maker conspiracy.
Hopefully it's not like The 7th Guest.
