Sen. Bernie Sanders welcomed Pope Francis to the United States and asked his colleagues in Congress to act on the pope’s call to care for the most vulnerable in our society.
+alberto meza Funny that. The Pope has now become the object of every conservative pundits hatred and contempt. Thinking that the pope should practice "religion" and "getting people into heaven" whatever they mean by that. As if their sense of religion and salvation shouldn't affect their daily lives in how they treat the poor, the sick, and the refugees. These conservatives doesn't follow the Sermon on the Mount. They follow the 285 Rules of Acquisition.
+alberto meza I think Pope Francis is on his way to becoming the greatest pope in modern history, and he will support Bernie all the way on economic issues. Conservatives are always quick to criticize anyone who goes against their interests, even if doing so contradict party values.
Same here, just knowing that someone like him is in power in Rome and hopefully with bernie as president there may be a hope for my generations future.
+Daniel Baker I'm in the same boat you are, before I heard of Bernie I had just given up on elections because I thought that any candidate running for office was somehow backed be corporations. Of course, Bernie proved me wrong, and I've never been so happy to be wrong. If we have any sense left in this country, Senator Sanders will become President Sanders. :)
Some people at my school say they would vote for Trump... And others say they would vote for anyone but him. I would vote for Senator Sanders! Go Sanders!
+RobloxMaster43 teach your friends why this guy is the right guy and not trump.. trump is authentic but doesnt have the qualifications.. has went bankrupt 4 times.. teach them kid^ it's gonna take ALL of us..yes even you
Nazistuff Anyone who takes Ellen White seriously should have their head examined. American "Christianity" is nothing but a farce, capitalism is the religion of America.
Nazistuff lol I'm Orthodox, not a Papist heretic. Ellen White didn't even know who the Orthodox are, and you don't either. How about reading the Apostolic Fathers instead?
Nazistuff I'm not a Jesuit. I am Orthodox. We created Christianity, we're not heretic Romans we are Syrians, we are Palestinians, we are Lebanese, we are Greeks.
Francis is duly popular amongst Catholics and non-Catholics alike. What we had in decades before were “traditionalist popes”-they were about upholding Catholic religious culture far more so than addressing current human-interest concerns. When John Paul II spoke of poverty, it was just something you expected him to do-another platitude. Now, when Francis speaks of poverty, you feel as though he addressing the concern in a real way. And when Bernie Sanders is saying here about the “cult of money”-that’s VERY real. Our whole American culture has become like that-the entirety of our human interactions now revolve around money. And 30 years after Reaganomics, I have yet to see anything “trickling down”. As of 2013, a Princeton University study revealed we are now a “plutocracy”. Meaning, your fate is primarily determined by your nation’s plutocrats-your elections are, at best, a long shot, a secondary means of affecting change-something with considerably less thrust than the premium America now puts on dollars and cents. “Social Darwinism”. That’s what Hitler loved. He didn’t expressly state that himself-he was too politically slick to get stuck with that disgrace-but he opened every door in pre-WWII Germany to every Social Darwinist and their notion the weak don’t deserve to live. “Lebensunwertes Leben”-an actual Nazi classification for incurables and the aged demented, “Life Unworthy of Life”. That same thinking-same ethos-is what determines how America now treats the bulk of its citizens today. We are assumed to be like cows, with the weaker members of our species fit only for being driven out or otherwise slaughtered.
+Fred Dietz Couldn't agree more. Social Darwinism is bull****. Yes, we share common ancestors with primates, but what makes us humans different from animals is our ability to override our natural instincts and be truly selfless. This is why we are above natural selection. We have the ability to give to and care for the less fortunate, rather than letting them die, and bypass our selfish survival instincts that animals cannot breach. People who use Social Darwinism as an excuse for justifying racism, discrimination, and wealth inequality are as amoral as man can be.
+Sean Jau Congratulations Sir: In one concise paragraph you have laid bare to the bone - the core of Capitalism. I believe you are truly enlightened. As for the rest of you die-hard capitalists - let me paraphrase a quote that I'm sure is one of your favourites - Greed is NOT good, Greed does NOT work ! Some day (probably on your death-bed) when you're looking for something you never gave to others -COMPASSION - you WILL agree with us.
+Nazistuff Or he could just be acting respectfully towards someone that is highly respected by millions of people around the world. Though I may not believe in what the pope believes in, he still deserves the respect of being a very progressive man in spite of his position. Bernie Sanders is not "siding with the devil" as you put it; he is extending a hand to a man who can encourage change within the Catholic Church and within millions of Catholics around the world to be more accepting of others and more demanding of positive change to make the world a better place.
One - I am an atheist so none of this bullshit applies to me. I do not believe that a "God" of any kind exists. There is no "Christ" nor is the nonexistent "Christ" a divinity. Please do not make accusations about me personally just because I do not agree with your opinion. Two - I do believe that religion has caused more harm than good throughout history. However, with the majority of the planet believing in some form of religion, it is not a wise move for Senator Sanders to completely denounce the Pope and the Catholic Church. This would cause a large portion of voters to not even consider him for the Democratic nominee, let alone for the Presidency. Three - Most, if not all, of those who believe in religion are blissfully ignorant in some way. I am not among them.
+Nazistuff You are a freaking moron if you are honestly trying to use the bible to prove the existence of your "God". Not going to happen, dude. Please excuse yourself from my post now.
+focusflute I know I am, also in some states you need to register with a certain party before you vote. If you happen to be in one of those states make sure that you register and tell all your friends who support Bernie to get registered. Also, nice picture. XD
I am becoming more and more intrigued with Bernie Sanders. I might have to switch and vote for him. He talks sense and is a real human being. He is a truly good man.
We need a good president who will lead us for the next 8 years. We need a rational president, a strong president, a revolutionary reformist president, a president who will bring back confidence in our federal government and sustain that confidence, and he/she sure as hell ain't going to be a Republican or Hillary Clinton. That is why we have no other choice than to support Bernie for 2016!!!!! #livingwage #Bernie2016 #feeltheBern
This man has got my VOTE... Listen to what he says, and his great VOTING RECORD. He has ALWAYS SIDED FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE WORKING AND VANISHING MIDDLE CLASS... #BERNIESANDERS2016 #FeeltheBern
Fantastic! Bernie really understands what is wrong with this world. I appreciate any person who sees that this Pope is something special and something that this world is desperate need of. #feelthebern #vivaelpapa
When was the last time a presidential candidate quoted a Catholic Pope? It will be interesting to see how their relationship develops, especially considering the republicans have openly dismissed the Pope's views on climate change and economic inequity.
Pope Francis and Bernie Sanders - it's a shame what society has become now when you call people like them who preach tolerance, equality, helping those in need, etc. are called 'progressive'. I guess it makes sense when we do need to make progress to where we are now. But people make it seem like it's a radical idea when it should be the norm.
“This opinion (about ‘trickle-down’ economics), which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness in those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.” “Crude and naïve.” That pretty much sums up the entire Reagan era which Reagan’s own political adviser, Lee Atwater, ultimately acknowledged was a “spiritual vacuum at the heart of American society, this tumor of the soul.” And Reagan’s “naïve trust” of his wealthy handlers was contrary to the principle of the Russian proverb “Trust, but verify” that Reagan adopted and frequently used when discussing U.S. relations with the Soviet Union. Ah, hypocrisy, thy name is Republican.
Thank you Bernie for speaking the truth!!!
thanks bernie!
the pope is one of the few religious persons I totally respect and admire, even though I'm, agnostic/atheist
