Many years ago in late 1970s when I was a student in Kolkata (then Calcutta) I remember the strictest teacher of the school, telling us about the courage that Israeli men and women had shown during the Six Days and the Yom Kippur wars. It impressed us because we hardly knew anything about your country. In retrospect I realized that he was also criticizing the Indian government for not establishing diplomatic ties with Israel.

It is a shame that Nehru refused to have diplomatic ties with Israel. Apart from the reasons that Ma'am Palki stated there was another-he did not want to take a step which he thought might dilute the Muslim vote bank that favoured Congress party in those years which is another proof that his so-called secularism was a sham. This is really very informative. Over the years, the relationship between India and Israel has certainly improved, but India still has a warm connection with Palestine. It is certainly not an easy job, but it was never one. Very few countries share a warm relationship with both countries and you have rightfully described the balanced relationship. Today's India has a voice and it does not belong to an exclusive club.
