Tooru's female side, to add clarity, is their psychosis. His female side is rooted in that horrible past and thus returns once his anchor of Haise is gone, and then returns to begin male as he is more lucid. Tooru becomes a hopeless lover to Haise, wishing for that life as she's projected her abuse as love onto Haise. As a former abuse victim, I see that in Tooru. I really like this video! I definitely think it’s correct to say that Haise was the foundation for Tooru’s mental instability. I think, psychologically speaking, our parents are a model for our relationship with the outside world. Tooru was abused by her father and his thus expects pain and hurt from men, especially men who she perceived as being attracted to her (bc sexual appeal means vulnerability). She chose the male identity as a coping mechanism, as a way to try and protect herself from harm. I think Haise was finally that kind and loving male role model that she was yearning for. So once he’s gone, then she has nothing to hold onto. I don’t think she’s actually transgender, but using the identity as a facade to protect herself. I say this as a woman who once identified as non-binary bc I thought it meant I would stop getting unwanted male attention. I think, unfortunately, Tooru is someone who many women can relate to on some level.
I hate Mutsuki but I appreciate her character, biggest pain edured by a character I have ever seen but those 3 moments of sufering: 1- her father 2- Torso 3- She in a broken state fucking a dead body where she imagined herself fucking Haise....... those truly build a charater and make you think and feel

I really liked this video, so I decided to actually go out of my way for this comment because the video feels like the start of the conversation but it misses something essential, in my opinion. I'm fascinated by everything you had to say regarding being broken and finding stability - before your bit about Urie. I don't think Urie was the sole other pillar besides Sasaki, Yonebayashi was it too since she was very important to Mutsuki and the home they shared. If Urie had gone by himself to stop Mutsuki I truly feel like he would have failed; he did good and meant a lot to Mutsuki, but Yonebayashi's more explicit words of affection were what in the end made Mutsuki stop. Yonebayashi deserves more recognition on this topic since the only other woman in Mutsuki's life before (his mom) was the worst kind of neglectful. Having another female step in and actually do something for Mutsuki was crucial. And Shirazu's death too, which united the three of them like nothing else could've. In a way, you could say Urie, Yonebayashi and Shirazu took the place of Mutsuki's family, which were his parents and brother. Those are my two cents though and I still really liked your video, I enjoy this sort of character analysis

The beauty of tragedy, cant make it through that chapter without tearing up ; especially when urie and saiko save mutsuki. Ima be honest i disliked mutsuki until i remembered why she was the way she was when she started going off
Honestly Mutsuki is my third favorite, I can see why people don’t like him for how annoying he was in the plot occasionally or how rushed his ending arc was, but the other people who don’t like him are just transphobes
yeah ^^ i love this channel, but as a trans male watching this video it bothered me a little. although, i can understand people using she/jer for mutsuki due to the confusion on their character near the end, with all that fascinating confusion they had with their gender and the manga reflecting that by constantly switching pronouns.
I don't wanna say she's best girl, but it's pretty damn close, her Atoinette syndrome transformation scared the shit out of me. Edit: Is it wrong that I'm glad that there was clarity about Mutsuki being a girl? The wiki was kinda snowflaky about it so it kinda confused me, so I just decided to start RE based on where season 1 left off of.
Fucking hell... More than half of the comment box is people crying about Tooru's pronouns... Man, it's a fictional character, call it as you'll wish!... And besides, we'll are free to consider them as we want. If you want to say "he", go ahead. Tooru wanted to be called like that in the manga. But, if you called her a "she", it's okay too! She was biologically and physically a girl, from birth to death.
I think that it’s important that people understand that Mutsuki is very much supposed to be a criticism of the Transgender movement. It may not appear as obvious to some, but the clues are there. Mutsuki was abused, tormented raped. The abuse she faced from her father made her want to appear and be as something she wasn’t. It was a lie she told herself, and kept telling herself, until Torso. After she killed Torso, there was a bit of text which read; “the worst kind of lie is the one you tell yourself.” This is what Mutsuki had done. She tried to deny her past, her state of mind, her biological sex, and herself. There is only so much time that you can keep telling a lie, until it eats you from the inside out. You shouldn’t deny who, or what you are, but accept it. Less you eventually break under the pressure and it all comes falling down on you, and crush you under the weight. Ishida did it in a very respectful and honest way, and that says something about their writing. To anyone that knows someone that is transitioning or is going through it themselves, love yourself for who you are. Don’t try to change what you can’t change. You can be happy. There is always a next day.
Much as I agree with your opinion about Mucchy not being a trans, the denial of transgender you made right there might trigger someone (not me, I'm cisgender a.f). Good for you that this isn't Tumblr, hope that none find you out :>
@@theatheistbear3117 funny that while I understand that you are being the supportive one in terms of self acceptance, I may have to disagree on 1, Ishida being outright against transgender and 2, the non-existence of transgender in your words. I know cases of people living a way more comfortable life after transitioning, and sex is something that science have now enabled being changed. Transgender is a thing, it is just not applied to Mutsuki in this case nor is it Ishida. Have a good day.
Emo Weeaboo Chick I’m sorry, but that’s just wrong. 1: If Ishida was “supportive” concerning transgenders he wouldn’t have made Mutsuki a mentally unstable, anxious, character with dissociation and murderous tendencies. (With all except the latter being symptoms of someone with the want to become the opposite sex) 2: That’s untrue. Multiple long term studies have proven that “transitioning” doesn’t work: journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885
@@theatheistbear3117 1. just because Mutsuki is mentally unstable and being confused about her gender identity doesn't mean he implies that any dysphoric character is mentally unstable. Your reasoning was actually one of the hate that many people poured on Ishida earlier, calling him transphobic and it saddened me. Because the traits you mentioned pretty much apply to the whole series, every character is problematic and has blood on their hands. If we keep up with your idea than probably every human is a bomb waiting to snap. 2. The journals you quoted is from 2011 and most of which are from the last decade, can be outdated. And transitioning does not neccessary come with fertality, just people feel comfortable with their bodies. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/0092623X.2017.1326190
Mutsuki's born as a girl but chose to live as a guy in secret for the majority of her life, the first time someone found out she's a girl is the time Haise(Ken) saw her cleavage by accident. I really like your videos, but the use of the same gifs over, and over again gets old.
But don't get me wrong, I love the editing style.
I would like it if
Ads more pics of the characters
@@JaredOviawe That would be nice too.
I need more light on Arata .....

so how long did Torso have Mutsuki kidnapped?
Hey Dresrosa I’ve recently seen one of your vs videos and wondered if you could do one on rize vs arima also it would be cool if you could do breakdowns on all of Tokyo ghoul op
I don't understand what's happening...like it seems like they kinda like each other,i saw sum shit about him accepting his "female side"
Tooru is a female whether she accepts it or not
im trying to make it through this video because its interesting and i love Mutsuki, but my dude calling him 'she' and 'her' the whole time is really fucking bothering me
Ikr
Because SHE is fimale
yeah i mean i see mutsuki as bigender but the pronouns need to be more equalized
The beauty of tragedy, cant make it through that chapter without tearing up ; especially when urie and saiko save mutsuki. Ima be honest i disliked mutsuki until i remembered why she was the way she was when she started going off
He***😬
@@kei-kun3883 she
@ChySyringe toorus a female
Being socially/politically correct doesn't change a gender
@LavenderAshes she is not Trans
ma boi still juicing Tokyo ghoul
Am I the only one that never knew Mutsuki was supposed to be portrayed as a guy? Lol I only watched the anime
Yes the anime does a very bad job at portraying his gender
Honestly Mutsuki is my third favorite, I can see why people don’t like him for how annoying he was in the plot occasionally or how rushed his ending arc was, but the other people who don’t like him are just transphobes
请问可以较载吗?您讲的太好了❤
I always wanted to see u making a video about Tatara .. maybe u will consider it.
Stranger (Earth-616) is awesome!
Can someone tell me the name of ost used at the end of the video?
finally
Why do you keep calling Mutsuki a he?
He call Mutsuki SHE.
because he's a trans male
@@huangwen-si7498 can you stop spamming?
@VannyDazee "I have no agreement so stop talking." Sound right?
@@lasqudradiesecuzione9301 LMFAO. So he was here too and deleted his comments.
I loved her so much until I didn't know she was a girl -,-
@LavenderAshes she. She's a female.
@@akumu9301 ...who uses male pronouns lol you don't gotta be a dick
these analysis keep me away from watching re just because of the fact that i want to appreciate the manga later on
Stop calling mutsuki a she or her, in the manga it is clear that mutsuki identifies as a male and is ftm(female to male), so use he and not she
yeah ^^ i love this channel, but as a trans male watching this video it bothered me a little. although, i can understand people using she/jer for mutsuki due to the confusion on their character near the end, with all that fascinating confusion they had with their gender and the manga reflecting that by constantly switching pronouns.
Tooru is non binary
Tooru is a women
She's a female. Identification is irrelevant.
Tooru is he/they. At the end the pronouns finish that way, the female side is rooted in Trauma
@@quartztemplar3676 Other way around.
.
I really really appreciate that you use the correct pronouns for mutsuki, thank you
I was about to ask that, Mutsuki did choose a transition, what pronouns could be used in this case?
She is girl.
@LavenderAshes she's a girl
@LavenderAshes she her
Yeees tg
Fucking hell... More than half of the comment box is people crying about Tooru's pronouns... Man, it's a fictional character, call it as you'll wish!... And besides, we'll are free to consider them as we want. If you want to say "he", go ahead. Tooru wanted to be called like that in the manga. But, if you called her a "she", it's okay too! She was biologically and physically a girl, from birth to death.
First!
Hey Dres, can you please talk to me on twitter?
its funny how my name is mutsuki 💜 we stan him
Yes we do and it's a very beautiful name
She's a girl
No homo but Haise kinda cute
I think that it’s important that people understand that Mutsuki is very much supposed to be a criticism of the Transgender movement. It may not appear as obvious to some, but the clues are there. Mutsuki was abused, tormented raped. The abuse she faced from her father made her want to appear and be as something she wasn’t. It was a lie she told herself, and kept telling herself, until Torso.
After she killed Torso, there was a bit of text which read; “the worst kind of lie is the one you tell yourself.”
This is what Mutsuki had done.
Good for you that this isn't Tumblr, hope that none find you out :>
Emo Weeaboo Chick Nobody cares if they are triggered. They should just accept reality. (Also Cisgender isn’t a thing)
(With all except the latter being symptoms of someone with the want to become the opposite sex)
2: That’s untrue. Multiple long term studies have proven that “transitioning” doesn’t work: journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885
@@theatheistbear3117
1. just because Mutsuki is mentally unstable and being confused about her gender identity doesn't mean he implies that any dysphoric character is mentally unstable.
And transitioning does not neccessary come with fertality, just people feel comfortable with their bodies.

im also trans so i would know what im talking about. he is a transmale, therefore he is a male
Mutsuki's born as a girl but chose to live as a guy in secret for the majority of her life, the first time someone found out she's a girl is the time Haise(Ken) saw her cleavage by accident. Ever since then they've been having a friendly relationship and Mutsuki later developed romantic feelings for him(Mutsuki is straight in case anyone was wondering, she was just REALLY uncomfortable being a girl in her household and thought it'd be better if she was born a boy.)
@VannyDazee clapping doesn't disprove what pal above you said
