01:08 Actually many movies were filmed on CELLULOID stock. Derived from cellulose, a plant based material it was prone to rotting even when stored properly. While nitrate stock WAS indeed flammable, it was still by far the more stable film media, and in order to preserve old celluloid films the negatives were TRANSFERRED to nitrate stock. many silent movies survive today because of that transfer.
Imagine if one day the internet went down or someone sabotaged companies to destroy copies of movies. It would be an even greater loss than silent cinema.
…I don’t think you know how the internet works. Things aren’t just stored in one place some hacker could just get into and delete everything. Most current digital media is stored on hard drives. With multiple copies, most of which aren’t even connected to the internet. Fire would probably still be a much bigger danger to movies. Though even that isn’t the threat it once was.
i think a better example would be if streaming services were discontinued. A large number of original movies/shows aren't being released as physical media, so people just wouldn't be able to watch them or there would be incredibley few copies available of many movies. theres actually been a concerning amount of original shows taken off services like disney+ like willow & crater a few months after their release because they weren't very popular, & haven't been given a physical release. right now you just can't watch them anywhere(besides pirating)
@@xk445gimagine every single piece of media gets absolutely destroyed except for these videos and one completely untouched completely fine copy of wild wild West, inexplicably sitting on the shelf of a shutdown Blockbuster that has refused to crumble in the throes of nuclear Holocaust
Dinosaurs and lost silent films I'm here for it I just love silent films There's just something about them either it's the style or it's just the curiosity to see how they pulled off some special effects back in the day before CGI and I especially love stop motion animation silent films have a dream like quality to them, at least to me It's a shame that so many of them are now lost and a good chance that we'll never see them which is pretty sad and also being a dinosaur lover since as a child it is so cool go back and see what came before Jurassic Park I really need to go and find silent films with dinosaurs to watch also keep up the great work I enjoy your content looking forward to the next video
I have created a reconstruction of The Savage (1926) using as many surviving photographs as I could find and ordered them in a way that is very loosely based on the original story. So it’s the closest you can get to seeing the actual movie.
One series I would really love for you to look in depth in is The Lost World tv series from 1999-2001 It’s very obscure and I can’t find any in depth details about it online.
I think it would be cool if they did remakes of these older movies, bringing some of the glory of the old cinema and bringing new fresh ideas and concepts for this very old films and bring them to the modern day cinema. I know it wouldn’t be the same film from long ago but it could be a way to keep the main story, idea, and identity of the film alive but with brand new eyes behind the camera and pen and paper.
Hey Diego here's a question have you ever herd of jojos bizarre adventure because in the 7th part there is a character named Diego Brando and he has the ability to turn into a dinosaur and turn other things into dinosaurs his ability is called scary monsters you need to check it out

we'd just have to rely on people with physical copies and hard drives to save us, pretty shrimple if you ask me
the worst part about Diegos videos are when they end
As a silent film buff, just how many of these films were lost turns my stomach.
I know 😔
It's always a magical time when I'm in need to watch somethin', and one of my favorite creators uploads seconds ago!
Keep bein' Awesome, Diego! 🦖🦕

[Silent dinosaur films among others are lost]
Library of Alexandria/Aztec Codex/etc: First time?
That savage movies sounds pretty funny. I am fascinated to know why the brontosaurus wasn't considered the main discovery there.
film fact movies were originally called Nickelodeons as they only cost 5 cents back then
Ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni Nickelodeon

Can you make dinosaur movie tier list
Great idea
The Savage would work well as an SNL alum modern project
I like to make a new version of dinoland usa and make it better ❤
Dino lost media my only words
Wow,Dino Diego sure does know how to give out an explanation about what was lost and rediscovered recently. I had no idea films could be this old.
1:57-2:12 what were the films that these shots were from?
In order, they're The First Circus and The Lost Whirl
@@DinoDiego16 Thank you
I believe all these old dinosaur movies should be preserved but sadly they are lost in time.
Isn't it "The Birth of a Flivver"?
It is, but it wouldn't be a Dino Diego video if I didn't say something incorrectly XD

I believe it is a German title called "Ein Rückblic in die Urwelt" from 1927
