It's a selfless job in my opinion. You have to be willing to listen and be flexible. That's from my experience in life. Don't worry so much about sticking to the "story" you are assigned that you forget about the person you are interviewing and make biased decisions or statements. Try to keep an open mind and imagine this person's home environment so you make them as comfortable as possible. I can not stress enough to learn about them as much as you possibly can before interviewing them and to keep a list of questions but use sparingly.
That's pretty much what was already said, but in a different way from my opinion.

Nice Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Schallingora Information Investigation Scheme (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome one off product for learning what you need to say to get hired in a job interview minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my best friend Jordan at last got cool success with it.

Is there any chance we could get a new or revamped version of this? I've been using this as a teaching resource for years, but every time my students see it they ask why it's super compressed and why the audio sounds like they did everything I teach them not to do.

I would like to see all news people remember that they are journalists & newspeople rather than what they seem to have begu considering themselves--more like therapists. Every single weeknight on News Hour on PBS there's a segment with pictures, rank, age, name of the recent fallen. Shep Smith just summed up his journalistic ethos for me: "I love car chases". Funny guy! Yes, Fox news is better; right now MSNBC is covering a car chase in California and Fox has one in TX. Rachel Maddow has many of the most substantial Obama critics on nightly. Honest.

I never said they were unbias. The difference between Couric and Rush/Sean is that Rush/Sean never claim to be unbias, ask them, they say it all the time when callers call them bias, they agree everytime. Couric HAS claimed to be unbias. She has said it in interviews, and in abiography that was written about her. Also, Rush/Sean arn't considered news reporters, they give their opinions on the news, where bias is ok. Couric is strictly news stories, which calls for unbias, which she is not.

Ask more pointed and concise questions, not yes or no questions as such but not too broad that they can speak for ages. Also, a good old interruption if they move off topic. I’m not a journalist myself but I want to become one

I suppose you would have preferred such relevant questions as, "What is your favorite snack food?" or "Which comic in the 'funnies' do you enjoy the most?"
Let's agree: questions are biased when they're obviously constructed against the person's assumed ability or presumed knowledge. So why wouldn't a potential VP be expected to have an opinion about some legal case not taught as common knowledge in public schools? Is it bad form to expect someone of such potential stature to show intelligence?

Ok, lets play interview. I'm a quick-witted, fast-talking reporter with many questions to ask that have been hounding my network's online message boards. You're a person who likes to carefully consider what they say, and polish out a response before and after you open your mouth.
Under your view I should treat all my interviews the same: only question you fast or slow; only slap you with tons of shallow easy questions or pass you real questions people want to hear. What a dumb thing to suggest.
