  • Part 2 | Discover more of the history of the de Havilland Vampire Mk 1 Serial LZ551/G on display at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton with Senior Curator Dave Morris.
    On 3 November 1945, Royal Navy pilot, Lieutenant Commander Eric 'Winkle' Brown RNVR, made the first ever carrier deck landing and take off by a jet aircraft. The manouver was carried out by this Vampire on HMS Ocean, which can now be seen at the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

    I had the great honour to meet today, a gentleman who actually flew the DH Vampire in the early '50s. A great character and full of interesting information about his experiences with various aircraft.
