This is exactly what I am looking for. I’ve been mastering playing hymns by chords (left hand) since pandemic. I am not at the level I want myself to be, and recently got asked to play hymns for sacrament meeting this week. I don’t have much variety yet with my style. I just do 1-3-5. But I want to put more variations to it like what you’ve covered in this video. Thank you for sharing!
Hey! I'm a Southern Baptist accompanist and the tips you shared in this video were great. I'm looking into starting a small one-hour course at a camp this summer that will try to teach students how to take hymns and turn them into good accompaniment for our congregational singing. Not enough musicians coming up in our churches know the value of learning how to play this style of worship music, and I thank you both for continuing to create videos such as this one. I'm a young pianist and I have played hymns this way for years so I agree 100% on all four of the tips y'all gave. Thanks so much!
We’re glad you enjoyed it Stanley! We’re actually seeing if there’s interest in a full course on this topic. If you’re interested, you can visit vorkinkmusic.carrd.co and put in your email.
hiii! I'm an LDS member, i was called as a ward assistant pianist in my ward and this video helped so much, i'd definitely use these tips when i play prelude and postlude
That's awesome. We're really glad you found the video helpful and good luck in your new calling! We plan on going into more depth on these concepts in the near future so keep an eye out. :)
Thanks Stanley! Ultimately, what you choose for reharmonization depends on what kind of sound you want. As far as getting ideas, I had seen the 7th chord substituted in other songs and just tried it out here. Definitely some trial and error.
Well if we’re talking about the current version of the LDS hymnal, there are a few keys that aren’t represented such as B Major, or G flat major. And the vast majority of hymns are in the same few keys. But absolutely learning all the keys will only help with piano and the hymns and is a great thing for any pianist to do!

I really enjoyed the way you two presented the enhancement suggestions.
Thank you we're glad!
Played sweet hour of prayer using this technique, sounds so much better
Great teachers
Good video.
"Unless it's bad feedback and that hurts our feelings"... I totally agree. Bad feedback is for the birds!
Hi folks, love the two-some of you. How did you arrive or determine the spicy B flat chord?

Sir will you help me create a music for my written hymn, I hope so, thank you
I do a lot of this naturally when I sing haha. I like to make the hymns a lil more interesting 👌🏿😎
Hi, Sir, please. Show the notes😅 which you are playing by Rt. &Lt. Hands in the trible & bass calf I am a beginner, guide me.
If you play everything in the hymnal, including the Christmas hymns, you need to be able to play in all keys.

Thank you! We’re not experts on that, so I would recommend looking elsewhere on UA-cam. Piano With Jonny has some great resources!
