- This video is about existential psychotherapy, and more specifically about the role of authenticity, inauthenticity, existential guilt and existential anxiety. And finally, this video is about the real nature of empowerment.
I love you, professor.
I am not your student, but thank you for making these lectures public. They are a breath of fresh air and extremely satiating and stimulating.
Not just ego and superego in conflict, or self and other but 'us' (individual and social beings) and 'them' (the individual members of powerful or influential collectivities, such as corporations, governments, charities etc.). Authenticity has a social dimension as when an individual is in a role. You can take on a role sincerely or authentically; or you can take it on cynically or as a means to an end or because that's what 'people' do or 'they' expect etc. etc. There are lots of ways of being inauthentic or insincere social actors. Give an inauthentic or insincere - untruthful - performance. 'Presentation of self' a key phrase. Goffman deals, albeit implicitly for much of the time, with the existential implications of social action, the implications for human being of being a social actor.
Looking youthful for your 6th decade, Eric.
I'd like to meet that professor!
Me too buddy.
