Joe your success couldn't have happened to a nicer, harder working, intelligent, humorous person. As a subscriber, I feel privileged to be a part in a small way, of your journey. Ever since I stumbled upon your channel, it's always good to see a new video of yours be published. This new format seems to be more of the same entertaining engaging content. Andy weir seems like one down to earth nice person. Plus he always loves to talk to people. I'll stop gushing over how excited I am for your success Joe. Keep up the great work!
Great convo! I don't remember if it was you or Ben who during the most recent OLF said that one of the best things about the internet is long form, free flow, relaxed, conversational interviews, but I completely agree, this kind of content is just the best.
It's funny, when the channel was really small, it was a compliment when people said this. After a while I started to be bothered by it, like "People keep saying I should be bigger than this, what am I doing wrong?" Now, I'm perfectly happy with how big the channel is and when I hear this now it just cracks me up. Like, how big does my channel need to be before people say, "Yeah, that's the right number of subscribers for this channel." :)
I am 52 & thoroughly enjoy learning from your channel. I say that because you often reference your “old” age. Furthermore, I am a stay at home mom/ entrepreneur and a former elementary school teacher. I admire Andy’s work as well & find him to have a similar personality as you. I pointed this out to remind you & others that we’re never too old to continue learning ( or nerd-ing out on knowledge). Your channel is refreshing & non-pretentious. Thanks for exploring the one on one interview with great minds like yourself! Bravo! More please! 👏
Easily your best video Joe, love the long form and relaxed style. The fact you’re both fans of each other really brought it “down to earth” for me too. I’m currently reading Artemis and so glad I saved this video until now. 10/10

After watching this discussion I bought the book “Martian”, read it, and rented the movie and watched it. Both are excellent, but the book is a masterpiece. It made humans going to Mars seem feasible and imaginable. If Andy Weir never does another thing in his life, he’s done enough for humankind with this book. Joe, great channel! Hope your dog is okay.

I went on a mad journey halfway through this interview. I opened up a new tab and typed in the title of his book, Artemis and came across Lindsey Stirling, an amazing violinist with a track of the same name. I clicked on it and was blown away by her. Leading me onto another and another of her many videos....several clicks later and I suddenly remembered I had left you guys paused for about an hour...Sorry, I'm back now,....you can carry on, thanks :)

Man, that was fantastic. Andy Weir rocks. And hey Joe... don’t consider yourself so unworthy. When I was a young kid my dad had a recording contract and I got to meet a lot of different celebrities. The thing I took away was that all of these people were just regular people that did something cool that made them known to others. But they still liked peanut butter sandwiches and they still breathed air. And some seemed a bit trapped by their success, and liked chances to feel “normal” again via plain human interaction. You do cool work by just pursuing your curiosity and matching it to what you feel is important, and presenting it to people in an accessible way. This is something people need, and you do it well. Fame comes with it, but just understand that there is actually little difference internally between those you interview, those who watch, and yourself. Your success is just a natural outcome of what you do and the application of your own sensibilities. Trust in your inner voice, be a good person, and all will be well.
This is amazing interview. Thank you both! On a side note Joe, you should have Andy take a paternity test. I think you are related. Your personalities are uncannily similar, which really added to my enjoyment of this.
I'm glad you both didn't skip over the mental health. Its important to break down the stigma of mental health issues. Speaking to a Doctor or Specialist about it can change your life for the better. Thanks Joe and Andy
That was very enjoyable. I liked the relaxed dynamic between you two, hope this marks a friendship for the both of you as you both seem to get a long and enjoy one another's work.
Lord Joe "Archibald" Scott, just when I think that you have reached perfection, you go and produce this gem! Totally amazing and totally awesome, thank you.
Absolutely outstanding. Beautifully conversational, relaxed and genuine. A pleasure to watch. Exactly the style I was hoping for in "Conversations With Joe"
What an awesome interview Joe! Hanging out with Andy Weir in his home and getting a tour of his shop would the highlight of the year for me. Thanks for everything you do.
I loved this interview, I will probably watch it a second time. I went from graphic designer working with a team to cartoonist working from home. I identified with so much that you two were saying. 🤩👍🏼 I love your channel.💕
Joe Scott and Andy Weir in the same video--I knew it would be awesome, but this was so much better than I could have imagined. I especially loved the discussion about mental health. You're both true gentlemen.
Joe, you should do more long format Interviews in the future similar to Joe Rogan. As nice as their are, 95% of them are with people I never heard about or have nothing to do with science or technology :(
that was so much fun! i watched all of Andy Weir's talks on youtube and they were generally the same in terms of things he talked about, jokes and questions repeating over and over. This interview pulled out some new topics and QnAs. I loved it thanks!
All right. I went through the whole interview and I can say that, before mentioning that Andy is quite a lovely character, you turned out to be a great interviewer. Loved the video. Very cool, I'm sharing this with my son, he's an engineer student, quite the nerdy young man. Congratulations, Joe! Freaking grat job and keep'em coming!
Thank you for the generational comment about mental health. I can identify problems in my siblings and I that seem to come almost directly from our great-grandfather, who was dead before we were born, whom our father never even met. But he impacted our granddad, and that impacted our dad, etc.
If you're reading this Andy (or anyone else for that matter), you took the eulogy/casket bit from Seinfeld. At least that's the first time I heard it was on that show. Great conversation. Thank you Joe, Andy, and everyone else involved in making this happen. I've been wanting to read Artemis, but it's always checked out at my local library!
I almost skipped this, because of the length. However, my drive for completionism led me to click it anyway, and I'm so glad I did. This was a joy to watch. Thank you.
Great interview Joe, I am so happy you were in person. The feedback between two people communicating in person is so much more engaging than the video conference format. Both of you showed signs of some nervous energy. However; you were both able to be focused and demonstrated active listening skills. You eliminated the dissociative effect of being separated by distance. Minimal talking over each other leading to very little of the annoying silence audiences experience after each occurrence. Warm, informative and fun! Thanks
I keep coming back to this interview. It inspires me to keep moving. Keep doing what I love. The thought of actually reading a book? Wha? Short attention span and dyslexia. The thought of science and science fiction is seriously the only thing that makes me wonder and takes me out of day to day life. I don't have a lot of drive right now to create, but this... this gives me a spark of normal people that create amazing things. Thanks Joe.
I just read both books and I have got to say they were some of the best books I have ever read, I like how its a story that has tons of math and science in it.
What energy you two made across the table. I wanted to join in - which I did mentally. Sharing your respective ideas and vulnerabilities. So much to learn from. Great job.
Love the show. Love the Martian! Watched it. Read it. Now listen to it while playing No mans sky during corona lock down. Cheers to both of you. Stay safe. P.s. I know this was done a long time ago
Seriously, this could have been an hour longer and I would not have minded at all. Loved this interview!! Thanks so much Joe for putting two and two together and speaking to Andy Weir when he DM'ed you! :)
This is pure gold. I really enjoyed the video, especially discussion of the nerd creative process. That's probably just because I can identify with the impulse to dive down that rabbit hole and take things apart until I understand how they work. The free-flowing style of this conversation, it was more than an interview, really let the two of you explore the subject.
And having said the popular thing I also have to say going to Mars and spending any time there will take resources and time far beyond what most people imagine. The energy problem alone, in space and on the surface, will be a tremendous hurdle. RTGs are not the answer and solar, well, ask Opportunity about that.
I did not think it was possible but I like these guys even more than I did beforehand. Seriously, so often you think you like someone but the more they talk you cool on them. Not here, gotta order my copy of Artemis and a T-shirt from Joe.
"He did it, the crazy son of a B**** did it" 😳 what an amazing interview Joe!! Come such a long way, you can see the positive and genuine synergy between the two of you! Both in your element and just having fun! Such a joy to watch!! 😊
When you said you had an interview with Andy I did not expect an hour and a half. Pure Joy.

Lord Joe "Archibald" Scott, just when I think that you have reached perfection, you go and produce this gem! Totally amazing and totally awesome, thank you.
I'm definitely broken in my own unique way 😃
Absolutely outstanding. Beautifully conversational, relaxed and genuine. A pleasure to watch. Exactly the style I was hoping for in "Conversations With Joe"
Maybe its something about the name "JOE", Damn you guys are good at interviewing folks, This is great stuff right here.
What an awesome interview Joe! Hanging out with Andy Weir in his home and getting a tour of his shop would the highlight of the year for me. Thanks for everything you do.
The “casket/ eulogy” joke is an old Jerry Seinfeld joke.
Yepp, a real classic!
I loved this interview, I will probably watch it a second time. I went from graphic designer working with a team to cartoonist working from home. I identified with so much that you two were saying. 🤩👍🏼
I love your channel.💕
I think the important difference is that soil is alive.
Yeah, it's important for soil to have microorganisms and fungi.
But it is easy to add the life to sterile rock dust.
Joe Scott and Andy Weir in the same video--I knew it would be awesome, but this was so much better than I could have imagined. I especially loved the discussion about mental health. You're both true gentlemen.
Joe, you should do more long format Interviews in the future similar to Joe Rogan. As nice as their are, 95% of them are with people I never heard about or have nothing to do with science or technology :(
Joe "the nerd rogan" scott hahahaha
I, like Andy, found the channel and binged it pretty hard. Glad I'm not alone. Keep up the great work, Joe!!
"My Man!" - mailman, Rick and Morty
that was so much fun! i watched all of Andy Weir's talks on youtube and they were generally the same in terms of things he talked about, jokes and questions repeating over and over. This interview pulled out some new topics and QnAs. I loved it thanks!
I appreciate that. I saw some of his online interviews too and didn't want to rehash old stuff.
You: ANDY!
Tim: ELON!
Ben: CHARTS!
Joe Scott meets Andy Weir
Tim Dodd meets Elon Musk
Who's Ben?
I'll give you $1 if you tweet that @BenSullins
@@aaronmalay5497 I legit have never seen this guy before. Does he just cover Tesla stuff?
You: Andy!
Tim: Elon......and Jim B!!!
Ben: um, uh....I've decided to interview Data.....Commander Data.
Nice one Joe, lovely rapport. More conversations like this please! (And what an interesting and likeable chap Mr Weir is)
I think the perchlorates were found by the Phoenix lander, not by Curiosity. Do I get my nerd badge now? ;-)
Thanks for linking to the Kurzgesagt video "The Egg - A Short Story", it's pretty brilliant
Ze Frank: That's how Martians do.
True Facts About Martians
I read both these comments in his voice.
@@joescott Haha! How can you not?
And the award for dorkiest picture ever goes to Joe.
Thank you for the generational comment about mental health. I can identify problems in my siblings and I that seem to come almost directly from our great-grandfather, who was dead before we were born, whom our father never even met. But he impacted our granddad, and that impacted our dad, etc.
Can anybody tell me when they talk about The egg story

If you're reading this Andy (or anyone else for that matter), you took the eulogy/casket bit from Seinfeld. At least that's the first time I heard it was on that show. Great conversation. Thank you Joe, Andy, and everyone else involved in making this happen. I've been wanting to read Artemis, but it's always checked out at my local library!
Hey Joe, you did a good Job here. Maybe its time to boot up the "Joe Scott Affect".
I almost skipped this, because of the length. However, my drive for completionism led me to click it anyway, and I'm so glad I did. This was a joy to watch. Thank you.
80 minutes of two guys fan-girl-ing each other.
duuudeee! I'm so happy to see a 1hr plus video from you! and with this man! awesomesauce
"For you guys to enjoy..."
I'm sure some of the dorks on here are waxing their carrot to these things.
Are you not?
My peener is already soaked in lube, ready for an hour long orgasm
Only the Joe Rogan fans, surely. What a shitty dude to emulate...
Thanks Joe.
Andy Weir has to be the most likeable guy ever. Thanks for the fantastic video Joe!
I just read both books and I have got to say they were some of the best books I have ever read, I like how its a story that has tons of math and science in it.
What energy you two made across the table. I wanted to join in - which I did mentally. Sharing your respective ideas and vulnerabilities. So much to learn from. Great job.
Andy Weir is SO nice.
Love the show.
Love the Martian!
Watched it.
Read it.
Now listen to it while playing No mans sky during corona lock down.
Cheers to both of you.
Stay safe.
P.s. I know this was done a long time ago
Definitely ready for more conversations with Joe!
Seriously, this could have been an hour longer and I would not have minded at all. Loved this interview!! Thanks so much Joe for putting two and two together and speaking to Andy Weir when he DM'ed you! :)
These guys have great nerd chemistry together. I would love to see more videos of them together.
Great video. I love it when two great minds get together and talk about things I'm passionate about. Rock on Joe and Andy!
Nawww when Joe is nervous he says "LIKE" so much, usually this annoys me but with Joe its adorable.
I did not think it was possible but I like these guys even more than I did beforehand.
Seriously, so often you think you like someone but the more they talk you cool on them.
Not here, gotta order my copy of Artemis and a T-shirt from Joe.
Such a great interview! I watched a ton of Andy Weir interviews when the Martian came out and it was great to see him again! :)
