The hero is Darpan and heroin Nayyar Sultana. They were real husband and wife. The song belongs to movie titled 'Azmat'. Darpan himself was the producer of this movie. Somehow it delayed and released late. So it badly affected its popularity and it went average.
Well, Darpan personally requested the lyricist Qateel Shifai to create his master piece for this song. And then this marvellous evergreen song that befits every lovebird was created.
The important thing is that Darpan might have never thought while getting produced this song that how it will come true in his life as he left this world only after 07 years after release of this movie.
In his early age Darpan was infamous for his flirty behaviour and most of the heroins were remained attached with him. Nayyar Sultana was an elegant woman and Darpan and Nayyar were 2 entirely different personalities who apparently were not match for each other. But, probably, this contrast of personalities became fascination for each other and Darpan fell in love with Nayyar Sultana. As an obedient eastern daughter Nayyar Sultana obeyed her mother who was not in favour of Darpan and remained neutral. But Darpan had set his heart and not ready to surrender. Then his elder brother Santosh Kumar who himself was an accomplished filmi hero, came in between but Nayyar's mother was not ready to budge. Now Santosh Kumar brought Nayyar round and she affirmed for this marriage as love is hardly one sided. So Santosh Kumar took Nayyar his home and she departed to her groom from Santosh's home. Nayyar's mother did not attend this marriage that was a memorable marriage ceremony at that era.
The climax is that Darpan never reverted to his old path and remained devoted and loving husband though his filmi career dwindled gradually after marriage. Then again Nayyar Sultana made her come back to the films to support her family but she accepted only side or character roles. May God bless both in heaven. They have 2 male children settled in the USA.

Qateel Shifai went over the top with those lyrics of his, but leave it late great Mehdi Hassan to still mange to pull it off. However Nayyar Sultan appears to be floating about quite unfazed as though she is barely present in body but mind is adrift, lost. And Darpan is being Darpan, I believe they were an husband and wife acting pair. Hard to believe that the year was 1973; merely two years before East Pakistan had gone on to becoming another country, Bangladesh. One wonders how long before the remaining Provinces pull the same stunt? Food for thought.
