    Driver's Fault.
Don't blame the structure that is clearly visible & been there for decades.

1:11-1:17: Thank you for reminding folks. I do not understand how people cruise through at freeway speeds. It’s okay to slow down, make sure you are centered, proceed through safely, and then resume appropriate freeway speeds.

I wonder if the toll booth saved someone's life by not being struck by the car.

That perpetually-closed lane on the Bay Bridge is a major hazard. People not familiar with it don't realize until the last few seconds that the lane is closed, and veer sharply off to the right or left to try to get into one of the lanes on either side. When traffic is heavy, it gets further snarled by people from that closed lane trying to force their way into other lanes, which slows those lanes even more. There are already-existing merge lanes just beyond that closed lane on the approach to the traffic signals that people are expecting, as opposed to the "Surprise! It's CLOSED!" lane at the toll booth. Until the toll booths are finally removed, why can't they just open that lane? It would make the drive in all the surrounding lanes a little bit safer.

Only cal trans would have toll booths on bridges without toll collection. I mean , like what could go wrong. Oh I forgot, all the road tax money goes to pay for that 9 billion dollar bridge to nowhere!

As if the toll booth had anything to do with the crash. It's not like there have been a rise in accidents there. Sure it'd be "safer" but since when was increasing speeds a call for safety? That's ridiculous.
Vehicles have also gotten larger over time because the all powerful automotive industry just skirts regulations and builds tanks and tells us its what we need. By that logic, we should be driving slower. But even without that fact, you always drive the conditions and a narrowing of a lane, narrowed by a toll booth, suggests that drivers should be driving slower to be safe.

Those lanes are very narrow, and the speed limit thru them is 25 mph. During low-traffic times people go blasting thru them at full speed. Most people ignore the posted speed limit on the bridge, too. It's still marked "50 mph", left over from when the new bridge was under construction and lanes on the old bridge had sharp turns. Most people ignore the 50 mph speed now that the new part of the bridge is open, and the average speed is 70.
