Lowkey this bedroom makeover was mad stressful, but in the end it turned out to be so vibey! I really dug into the cave vibes of this space and made it into a cozy neutral mid century modern Scandinavian bedroom, including the comfiest mattress (thanks Birch!) and moody lighting. By painting half the room an off white colour, upcycling a thrifted dressed and DIYing a custom headboard complete with floating nightstands, this room really came together. I deffs have a few more touches I want to add to this room, so comment below if you'd love a basement bedroom makeover part 2 in the future!

With living in a basement I HIGHLY recommend getting a dehumidifier. Especially with a shower down there, it will prevent mold which is SO important. Also setting hue lights to turn on every morning so it doesn’t feel like you’re waking up in the dark 😊
I have heated floors which really dries up any dampness. Also I do have my lights automatically turn on but i need to fix them because a) they’re too bright and b) they come on at 6am on weekends lol
TheSorryGirls mould prevention takes three things! Water>heat>ventilation
Make sure you have lots of ventilation, without it your heated floors will help mould growth rather than prevent it :o
Two Hendersons commented, so I thought I’d make it three! ☺️
@@ahenderson6882 Haha I should be a Henderson except that my wedding was postponed, but thought I'd join in anyway
@@TheSorryGirls We have concrete outer walls here in Germany and anything non waterproof I have ever tried to store next to those walls has gotten moldy. This makes me worried for your head board....
Loved the content! But I’m noticing a change in the reveal shots with the moving quick footage. It’s a trend with a lit of other UA-cam diy channels as well.. The shots pass by very fast and doesn’t allow my eye and mind to fully grasp the transformation of the room. So I am left with pretty shots but I still feel like I don’t really know how the new room looks. So less fast editing of clips wood be great :)
100% agree!!
Slow down youtube playback? Idk
Agreed!
Yep, too fast. The video is over 30 minutes (longer than some episodes of TV), but the final reveal flies by as if they already regret some choices or something and that's not a confident message to send through editing after all the time and effort everyone spent making the video. Slow down the panning shots a little if you're proud of the results!
I was coming here to comment that very same thing. It was fast enough it even made me feel a little fuzzy-headed. For a design that we're really suppose to be taking it, it's not an editting trick that works well, I think.
This will probably get buried but I hope you see it!! For the old letters you framed in the room, I'd definitely recommend getting a mat so the letters aren't pressed up against the glass. Paper has a tendency to stick to glass over time, and with it being so fragile/old, I'd hate to have them damaged or stuck to the glass permanently. I'd recommend getting an acid-free mat that has a window exactly the size of the letters (or larger) and using either artist's tape or framing tape to secure it on just the top side, or if it's larger, mounting it to the back.
I thought she took photos/scanned the old letters. I don't think she would take pieces of the actual collection for her bedroom.
@@leetee3207 I'm not sure if she did, but I'd also recommend using copies, because the writing might fade from natural light exposure. Although, of course, there is not too much of that in the basement...
I came here to say just this! If those are originals and family heirlooms, take them to get framed when you can. They should be matted and archival mounts should be used as well as anti-uv glass. (Even if they're only in your basement for now, you may want to use them when you redecorate)
She for sure needs uv protectant glass too!!

Idk how to feel every time a new video comes out, because it means her whole home is going to be done soon and I don’t want this series to end!!!! :(
Same!! It's such a special series. I feel like we're there experiencing this whole reno/makeover with her.
I have the exact same feeling :( it's so bittersweet
But the upstairs apartment could be the next series!
@@tinysealooter I think the apartment upstairs is already rented out.
Same, same. That would be awesome if Kelsey did her upstairs apartment too.
🤔The fact she struggled about elements of design in her own bedroom is so real & relatable. Creating something you actually wanna live with can be a bit tricky sometimes. Nice to know that even such a naturally gifted decorator has her doubts about some spaces. Great job!
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the textured "cave wall" behind the bed would look better in a slightly darker color. Nothing too dark, just maybe one shade darker than the 'Dove wing' paint on the lower section of the rest of the room?
I totally agree with you!
Agreed agreed
yup, agreed. Either that or a darker headboard fabric. Love the texture of it, but maybe in mauve a dusty sage green.
Yesss
For sure. The textured wall is already the accent wall but a different colour would definitely help to elevate the overall design.
When you started with the cave room picture, I assumed you would paint that textured wall a sand or light ceramic pink shade. It would have made your headboard pop. Loved the dresser transformation!
That's my thoughts too, and what I'd do if it were my room, but it kinda doesn't match with the rest of her house.
I would like a little extra color on her headboard. Right now it just blends into the wall and disappears.
So true! I thought she 2as going to use the stone spray paint that she used on bed frame on the bed nook walls
@@annayakuhana3007 true maybe where head board a accent wall use the green used on that one dresser draw.
I thought that too... the "sand" light color is earthen and natural and would actually show the texture of that wall better ESPECIALLY behind the white headboard and white bedding and lamps ...
I almost expected you to put a light behind the headboard. That would look so good with the wall texture!
yes!! it would highlight all the contours on the wall, i hope she sees this and tries it out.
yes this would make the wall almost look like a piece of art
yeah, I noticed the up-lit edges of things in her cave inspiration images and was expecting to see that play into this basement room design. Then she accidentally kind of did it by putting a lamp on the floor. I love indirect up-lighting; it's usually flattering (makes people look youthful and glowy by filling in the shadowy parts of our faces that can make us look tired or saggy.) She could make the room look bigger without the rectangular mirror (which looks blocky and breaks up the minimalist flow) by using some soft edge lighting to illuminate the ceiling or accent wall texture.
Oh, good idea!!
Or if she hung a big “art light” like those lights people hang above framed pictures to show it off better! That would look good!
I love how Becky is all earthy tones and neutrals and little bit of blue like the seventies, and Kelsey is like Black and Green and 'Gimme more plants' and just plain chic. 🥰
Right I was just thinking about that
@@FashionbyNyla yes. But they both still match somehow 😄
Kelsey covered the spiders' faces to protect their identities. So thoughtful.
There’s nothing worse than arachnid doxing. She’s socially conscious.
Oh! I had another idea to stiffen the headboard - foam board insulation comes in sheets like plywood. I have used it to create large "canvases" for art when staging a home.
😆❤️
I just recently moved into a basement bedroom omg the spiders ! 🥺 If you guys have any ideas on how to get rid of them help me
We stan a conscientious queen
Hey Kelsey, for me the headboard is lacking contrast rather than dimension. If you go back to your inspo photos at 2:37, the hotel design brought in warmth with beige/greige fabric rather than more white. That swap would highlight the textured feature wall and bring out the warm woods of the nightstands, especially since the warm flooring is now covered up with white rugs. I'd love to see you DIY a frame for the beveled mirror to bring in more of the streamlined wood lines from the inspo images!
Totally agree with you!
You could use cork for the head board. It’s light, you can mold it when wet, and it stable when dry.
Cork had been my new design element. I’ve used it for so many things.
Yes, sure, just make sure to seal it so it doesn’t crumble
That would look really cool.
I know Kelsey might not approve it, because it is not natural, but also pressed polystyrene block might do the work as well as an alternative to cork (cork is better but also more pricey (?)
Cardboard would honestly be a great material to use for the backing of the headboard. It would supply a decent amount of support, but still be flexible enough to get a good flush fit to the wall.
I kinda like the wrinkly texture though it mirrors the wall but in a softer way
Who else has literally been obsessed with their videos!? I love your channel so much! It is so motivating and inspiring! 💕🥺
maybe try and put carboard, maybe some layers, between the fabric of the headboard for support?
Or maybe even some chipboard (slightly more sturdy) for added stability?
Masonite? It does need something. I don't care about wrinkles, but the instability of it would drive me mad. ☮💛🌼
Styrodur blocks, that will work perfectly
I was thinking cardboard too 👌
Hi you could use an iron on interfacing fabric that will get rid of the wrinkles and provide stability. It won't be stiff but will allow for flexibility while maintaining the structure of the fabric and get rid of the wrinkles.
In Jamaica we call it pellon. I'm not sure what other names are used for other regions but it's a woven fabric that's sticky on one side when ironed on.
I don’t love the two toned paint on the walls. The color is awesome, but the sharp line feels too harsh with the organic stone type wall the bed sits on. I completely agree with changing the mirror to the dresser wall. But overall I really love it, super cozy and unique. Definitely chic hotel vibes.
I know what you mean. And they used to do that in the 50's in Doctors Office's. That why i do not like them.
kelsey, just thinking out loud - bringing those bed legs lower would totally achieve your goal. maybe just cut them off, or the way they are constructed allows them to come off? also, I think that tinted mirror will be bomb on that wall that reflects the hallway. it will visually DOUBLE the depth of the whole unit. you can still hang the arched mirror on the wall beside the bed, and kinda dress it up like a faux window? just sharing ideas!!!
Omg why has this not gotten boosted 😍
Love that idea!!!
Tdj jakes
In general, I love the design. However, I feel the headboard is a little insubstantial. It's not doing enough to justify being there. Maybe it's an issue with it not coming through in the video, but it just sort of blends into the wall behind it. Maybe if the wall behind it was a darker/tan color, like I've seen other people suggest, the headboard would look better.
i agree, but the color of the wall is perfect, i feel like its the headboard color that needs to change
It's also there to give your head something softer to bonk against
I think she should have matched the headboard color with the dresser
The board was the worst, it made it worse. First off, wrong color. Second, terrible diy. Expected more from the sorry girl!
I wish she would have just painted the wall a tan or cognac colour in the exact shape and size of the headboard she made and left it at that!
everything looks so nice and polished except for that headboard. i dont even think you need one with the stone wall being such a statement piece
i agree , the fabric of the headboard doesnt work with the wall .
Walls like that hurt. Ive cut myself because the wall near my bed is textured.
I would like the headboard to be a slightly different color. It blends so well into the color on the wall that it disappears.
@@kcanded agree--I was hoping for a contrasting color for the headboard.
I wish she had put a thin piece of wood on the back of the headboard tbh
I think there needs to be some more color on the bed side of the room. For the headboard, I'd go with a light green or gray or even bring back in some mauve. A light texture on the fabric if any at all. I was thinking maybe a thin sheet of a flexible plastic or foam might give you stability on the headboard without making it rigid like plywood would.
I think moving the large tinted mirror behind the dresser would be a great idea. I totally agree that it kind of chops things up with the look towards the bed.
I was also think she could add some vintage buttons on the headboard to give it texture and visual interest. My favorite was the dresser but I love everything ❤️
I was thinking that mybe some cardboard would give some stability to the headboard and maybe just some thin wood bars (? Forgot the word )
Marissa Nix yeah, or maybe like the plastic or plywood and then add another layer of foam behind that so it settles into the wall better? Or a foam edge around it so you can still attach to the board.
She mentioned that she's gonna be adding a green bedthrow for a pop of color :)
I think cork could be the perfect solution
Love it! IMO the tinted mirror ruins the flow of the room and makes the room look smaller, and the headboard is too thin! I would also argue that a new bedframe in a matching wood to the nightstands would look great. Other than that it all looks gorgeous!
If you’re into aromatherapy, some scents Spiders hate are citrus, eucalyptus, tea tree, and peppermint. 😉
Thank you so much for this. 👌🏽
This! I use a simple lavender mix that's just 3 drops of lavender oil, 1 tsp of dish liquid, and water. You can switch out the oil you like that they don't like. I never see spiders if I keep up on refreshing the spray around my apartment, but I know when it needs to be done because they come back quickly ;_;
I've also mopped my floor like this. It smells amazing, helps my mood, AND it's friendly to the spiders. Just be careful of what oils you use and if they're pet or kid-friendly when used that way.
There are bugs and rodents that I abhor.
The only spiders that I fear are brown recluse and tarantula size arachnids. Watch Charlotte's Web for Pete's sake
@@dy9278 Okay? She just had a lot of them in the basement living space and one safe way to keep them away without harming them is with specific natural scents. They'll still be around and totally fine, they'll just avoid areas you don't want them... like next to your bed lol.
Cinnamon works wonders too!!!
I kept on getting bit by spiders (3 times in less than 36 hours) in an Airbnb, I put cinnamon powder everywhere and never ever saw (or felt😫) another spider again. I’m sure cinnamon essential oil works even better and it makes a house smell so goooood🤗
tbh i’d ditch the headboard - maybe consider getting a narrow wooden board , that matches the night stands. great room makover!
I always feel like a good student who has done her homework when you mention making sure the viewer is caught up on the Making Home series and that we're subscribed hahaha
Home Depot has these sticky strip lights you could tape them under the bed or under the dresser for a floating effect ☺️
The room overall is AMAZING, you did such a great job!!!! But i think the mirror would totaly look better with the dresser, maybe switch the artwork with the mirror, and u might have more use of the top of the dresser
💖 Thought she did an incredible job, especially following her design inspiration.
☀️/🌚 In a basement, another mirror in that exact spot will help perfectly reflect some of the sparkle of natural light as well as her strategic💡lighting additions. Thought the XL frameless mirror was a good choice. It didn't visually weigh down the wall in any manner or detract from her charming cave.
I'm not a fan of a smokey mirror in general, but I do think it will work nicely above the chest with her 🖼artwork propped & layered against it. I'd enjoy the reflective aspects of this mirror there behind the art. (Smokey or not, I wouldn't want to stare @ myself fully in it when lounging or larking about.)
🌟Think Kelsey's done a marvelous job of merchandising this surface. 👍She fully understands scale & proportion. She treated the chest like a large shelf ledge -- & dressed it quite attractively w/her vignette.
For her, it's not like a kitchen counter that she needs to utilize as some prep or staging space. She clearly is not going to use it as a vanity💄surface. Plus, empty dresser top space for a messy & undisciplined person like myself is killer temptation to drop stuff that doesn't belong there.
😔😦😣😆😁
You might also want to buy a large LED panel to simulate more daylight. There are a few fun videos online to diy these into looking like a window
They did a DIY on one in another video.
Katie Cook ahh.. so this is where I‘ve seen it 😂
edit: wait, I can’t find that one 🤔
madonnella it was for design and conquer the most recent one “planning a bright mid century modern”
Please try using peppermint essential oils in your bedroom. When I lived in a basement it helped so much to keep spiders out.
When I lived in a basement, I lined the floor corners will clear, wall-safe scotch tape. It helped with the spiders!
That's a great idea. I use clear caulking around the baseboards and windows. It dries transparent and it keeps out spiders and roaches from the outdoors.
How??
I love the "cave bedroom" vibe! Definitely move that mirror, though. Seems like it'd work better over the dresser.
Or behind the bed
I like that you show us how indecisive you are and that we get to come along for the whole process and not just the end result.
You can get your duties refunded- peel off the shipping label and there is a duty refund slip hidden there
Is that just for certain places/companies? 😱 cause that's what has prevented me from ordering from us brands cause I still get duties and taxes even tho I'm just in Vancouver Canada 🥴😂 thanks in advance ✨
@@krystalcheena its a Canada post thing. You have to have a reason , like how in Kelsey's case she already paid duty once , so she doesn't need to pay on the exchange. Sometimes citing the product isn't available in Canada also works - but not too often.
Oh I see! Thank you!!
@@user-di6cn2ne7u just wanted to mention that it's not a 'canada post thing'. the canadian border services agency (or CBSA) are the ones charged with handling VAT/duties and taxes, with canada post being the intermediary charged with enforcing payment of said fees. but otherwise, you are completely correct in that imposed duties can be appealed.
What about a wire frame behind the headboard for structure?
That tinted mirror would look amazing with a simple flat oak frame around it! Love the vibes.
Becca French Or painted antique gold
I just can’t get into that headboard. It needs some structure and just blends with the wall.
Silicone all those cracks in the basement 😖🙅🏻♀️🕷
I thought exactly the same thing.
Definitely!!
Yes!
I’ve tried but ting spiders get in no matter what 😭
Maybe its the drains or vents?
The walls being that warmer tone makes it so much more cozy!
For the textured wall behind the bed- I saw something in a coffee shop that I’ve been obsessed with lol. You can get maybe ten air plants and grab some white wall holders for them and disperse them over the wall. Cool, unique, spacious way to implement some green but also kind of acts like an art piece!
I feel like you should change the colour of the headboard to something darker.
omg this is my fave
I loved the live reactions lol and the journey of the bed and those little LAMPS I love them
Brb just gonna copy this entire thing lol
doddleoddle omg hi dodie
will keep this in mind when miss rona is cancelled and we can makeover your space 😏
hi dodieee
Spiders don't like a disturbed space. So the lazy option is get a robot vacuum and set it to vacuum multiple times a day.
You did an amazing job on that little cavey space! As a museum collections person I just have to say that layering anything over/in front of your grandparents love letters will fade them unevenly, even in the low light of that room. Scooch that other photo frame over so it's just covering the mat instead of the letters themselves
really enjoyed this take on a basement cave bedroom! actually think the bed could do without/ with a different headboard. just think there’s too many textures going on with the wooden nightstands and cloth headboard that it steals away from that wall
The only thing I don’t like is the head board. I feel like it should have been a pop of color or just do away with it. Also don’t like the mirror placement but you do you
I cant agree more
I do agree with the mirror placement, actually it’s bad luck. And it couldn’t be scarier to wake up and scream at your face in a mask or something🤣
Yes the headboard fabric needs more interest. Texture or something. Take a look at Magnolia Fall showroom it’s all about weaving. Love the lampshades. Maybe sew some colored yarn through it. Check out Joanna Gains new video showing her fall marketplace
I like that you showed us the hard parts of decorating like budgeting and constantly questioning your decisions - as someone indecisive I totally related to that. Love how it turned out!
aweee kelsey!! please dont stress yourself too much remember that this whole renovation project must be fun since its your home. and honestly I don't mind if you guys post the videos a bit late. just please take your time and have fun!! :)
(tbh i don't want this series to end yet so please)
String lights or warm led strips behind the headboard would light up that feature wall beautifully in a low light vibey way. The dresser turned out amazing! I love this series, thanks for bringing us along on the journey.
yes i totally agree! i think warm led hidden strips will just elevate the space and make it super cozy and very cave-like! the cool lighting is a little to harsh with all the whites.
The headboard should be a colour to contrast with the white textured wall....like an oatmeal colour. It just fades away into the wall.
Love the space! The only thing I would do different (total personal preference) would be to add some slightly darker tones of cream or even that light green to the bed. Whether it’s a throw pillow, throw blanket, headboard fabric, etc. I just feel like the other side is full of those green, warm touches and you lose that on the bed area. Idk just a thought! It’s awesome, though! Those nightstands are to die for!
She did say that she ordered a comforter for the bed in that shade of green for the bed but it just didn’t arrive on time. 33:10
Tiny Sparks oh sorry completely missed that. 😂😂
Just me that got nervous when she lit the incense next to the fabric headboard? 😅 love the style of the room!
Nope not just you! Hoping it was just for the video?
Anyone else find it hilarious that she searched for a certain colored wood dresser to then turn around and paint it lol!
This channel makes me want to use the money I don't have to redo my entire house that I don't own 😂❤️
Yes! I have to be content with decorating my animal crossing because I'll probably never be able to afford a house!
Best comment 😂
Lmaoo where is the liiieeee?! 😂😂😂😂
💯
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I kinda feel like the headboard takes away from the feature wall, especially being so samey colour wise it just kind of blends in and blocks that gorgeous texture. Still love the cosy feel!
I literally binged watch this series. I am planning to renovate my grandmother’s home but I dont have the money yet, but watching this makes me more motivated to work harder and harder to renovate the house. I really enjoy every videos. Cant wait for the next episode. Thank you ❤️
I would recommend a thick cardboard or a foam board to glue the head board on to. ( The boards that are used for posters or projects for school.) I feel it would work to have the head board firmly to the wall.
Agree I made an ottoman with thick poster board on top of a small stool and it worked well although much smaller then Kelseys headboard.
Spiders love to live in cardboard though!!!
It would pay to have some extra pairs of hands to help with keepingit tight rather than pins while you staple it so the fabric doesn’t shift too much etc…
Or some weightsof some sort it was a great idea and maybe just needed two layers of the thicker foam and a zip at the both edge to make like a giant cushion cover this would give you the tightness while not needeing the card. The velcro is a great solution too well done Kelsey I've been looking forward to these videos and you definitely did not disappoint keep up the great work. Just remember you can always change it in a few years time and make more videos for us.
OMG I got so emotional when you talked about your grandparents that I got tears in my eyes, and then the bathrobe from Becky's wedding, stop it! so special and cozy. You had some hard times with it, but you finished and reached the goal and it turned out so goooood!! All the best wishes and good luck with your new home.
Every other comment is critiquing her and telling her what she “should have done” and I LOVE THIS COMMENT!! I felt the same way! It fits her and I’m sure she will make changes as she lives in it but it’s exactly what I expected. I love it for her

I was genuinely concerned when I watched that clip because same
That's exactly what I said!😂
Have to say it- me too! Banisters or a railing serves an important purpose. Looks cool without, but one bad fall and by the end of the week in goes a railing or a banister. (Said by someone who fell down a flight of stairs, leaving me with multiple injuries- and that's the super short version!)
The only thing I didn't like about this design was the tinted mirror next to the bed. I feel like its bad feng shui.
Omg thats what i was thinkinggg
Couldn't agree more - I never have a mirror in my bedroom, especially one that big.
But what about if she mounts it on the ceiling?! Over the bed. It’d be cool and not sleezy bc of how tinted it is.
@@ocimak rofl xx
No, the only bad thing is that she didn't make the window big enough to easily use as an emergency exit in case of fire when they were renovating. Basement bedrooms are dangerous.
I love how this turned out! I do agree that the placement of the tinted mirror seems a little off because of the darkness, but I definitely love it as a piece in the room! We love the cozy vibes!
I like how everything is taking shape.
My piece of mind: by my personal taste I feel you covered too much the floor with so many rugs, I believe the bed stands will pop a bit more with more floor revealed and the room would feel less busy. I would just keep the side wool rug and place where the big one is.
Re: tinted mirror, I planned a DIY with my mum and we took an old glass wood door and placed tinted mirrors where the glass used to be- it’s amazing now. It’s an idea to introduce more wood in the room and you can love the big mirror where the landing is, will help you get dressed.
I’ve seen comments re: LED and I agree with them, they can give you mood lighting if you feel it’s still dark.
Also having low ceilings you can direct light there from the ground.
Alternatively you could paint as well the stone wall with a paint that has a reflecting effect.
Are you going to get a door for the room? I picture it as a barn door..
I definitely think you should move the tinted mirror to above the dresser. You want to think about the "picture" the mirror shows. Where it is now just shows a blank wall which doesn't add depth to the space, but above the dresser it will reflect your whole bed space, creating a beautiful "picture" and will also create the depth you are looking for. The space is beautiful!
The “reveal” shots are way too fast and too zoomed in on individual items rather than showing up the room as a whole
Kelsey "I need someone to disagree with me so I can make a decision"
Right!? I’m the same way 😂😂
I really really love the color that you chose for the dresser. The whole space feels super calming!
What I love about you girls is your ability to just dive in and try something you've never done before. Even if you screw it up or it doesn't turn out right you learn from it and you add it to your repertoire of expertise. I got to give you credit for your fortitude!
When sewing curves (i.e. on the headboard) clip your seams every 1 - 3cms depending on the degree of curve (tighter the curve - space clips closer / Softer curve space clips further apart). This will allow the seams to form better to the shape when turning the fabric the right way around and make it less wrinkled/pulled ;)
Also, if you press your seams and understitch the seams towards the back then the fabric will also sit better and look more finished.
I love this! Fairy lights I feel like would be really nice in here without looking too dormy. The tinted mirror is beautiful
Idk I feel like fairy lights would make it look like a nook instead of a bedroom
I love Kelsey without a front fringe omg, the small fringe she has now frames her face so well, she looks so beautiful !
Kelsey! Obviously I love watching your videos and it's something I look forward to weekly but if something isn't ready, I wouldn't want you to sacrifice quality of your content in any way just to post on a schedule! We're all going through a pandemic and it's alright if a video is late by a few days. And also I'm glad you're covid free♡
The wall color is so viby and cozy, thinking of the walls (and the ceiling!) fully painted in that instantly makes me relaxed💗.
I also agree on the tinted mirror, its a great piece but this is not the best place for it.
Plus, a floating bed would look amazingg with those floating night stands😍
And, Kelsy u did a great job! Bedrooms are definitely the toughest rooms to design and decorate.. and its an ongoing process for sure. I just wish u took ur time with that and did not feel obligated to follow the video schedule.
Use a foam poster board for the headboard. It's light but gives you some structure. Hope that helps! Love your home and how it's coming along!
My very favorite things are the shadows from the lamps going up the wall behind the bed. Somehow they bring out the stony look and make it look like a feature even though you didn't paint. Great job. Very you and very well done.
So the quote she read from a letter can be resaid as “ dont send so many kisses with your letters or when we meet again we wont have enough time to leave the bedroom to go dancing” 👀 that was the back in the day slide in the DM’s talk
Yeah she put a dirty love note from her grandparents in her bedroom for sure
I was not fully on board with this look until you turned the little LIGHTS ON -- it's so cute and cozy!
Love how the space turned out! Could something like chicken wire help with the headboard? Sturdy enough to hold a shape but still mould to the structure of the wall, and you could use small hooks to hold it up. It would mean handsewing the fabric to the mesh but if you work your way around strategically, it could work almost like stapling to wood and give you the nice, smooth fabric surface.
Anyone else notice the silky robe from Becky's wedding on the floor during the reveal? I amuse myself imagining whether Kelsey was annoyed that it kept slipping off the small knobs while filming, it definitely won't be hanging there anymore 😂😂
NICE! Wouldn't want to cover texture of wall at head of bed, but that would be the wall for mirror placement in order to reflect both natural and artificial light.
I also like the idea of mounting the tinted mirror behind the dresser.
When she said
“Who bought this house? Did I buy this house?!”
I felt that! 😭😂 Being a millennial first time home owner is such an emotional roller coaster!
Sometimes it feels like that's never gonna happen
Yes, one day you're like, "That's MY driveway. That's MY tree in MY yard. That's MY basement. I'm an adult." Then the pavement cracks, the tree starts trying to take out pedestrians with its branches, and the basement floods. Then it's more like, That's myyyy driveway... 😟 That's myyy tree? 🥺 That's MY BASEMENT!! 😭 Help me! I'm just a kid!!
A Zachary hahaha! The most SPOT ON comment!! 😂
I am so proud of how well you accomplished the effect of your bedroom . I go through all these indecisions back and forth but it does get done. Glad you are healthy again .
I loved the color dresser and I feel like the room came together so well!! I know this is kinda unsolicited advice, but I think if you made the headboard in a slightly darker color (maybe a similar shade of green as the dresser, or a warmer darker beige) it would really anchor the bed. l feel like it would really help to make a distinction between the wall and the bed because right now it kinda all blends together because of all the white. I loved the shape of the head board though, I thought it was really smart of you to extend it over the night stands because it honestly makes the space look sooo much bigger! I also love the idea of putting the tinted mirror behind the dresser!
Try stiff cardboard for the headboard, rather than wood.
My bedroom is also very dark, a little small, and painted grey. Living in a dark space is really taking a toll on my mood especially as winter gets closer (I live in SK). So, I watched your video 3 times and literally just painted samples on my walls to make a cozy cave like your room! I love this series so much - I am the same age as you and am so inspired by what you and Becky have accomplished with your business and homes! Thank you for sharing it with us, and congrats on your beautiful home!
you guys really inspire me to become a interior designer when i’m older 💕
So true. In college i'll be an interior design major💗 Thank u Kelsey and Becky. U always inspire me to pursue interior designing.😊💗
Omg me too I want to be one too
Hi!! Interior design is beginning to end. That includes contract document, building code, construction drawings, dealing with electrical, structural and HVAC. And much much more!! Hope you’re aware!!!
C oh ok thank you for the info!
basic maze np!! I’m an interior designer and everyone thinks it’s just decorating and picking out furnishings/residential. It’s commercial too, hotels, restaurants, offices, universities, etc etc so make sure you know what you’re getting yourself in to. It’s architecture for the interior that’s why it’s called interior architecture as well
Kelsey's style is justtt different enough from mine that when I'm watching I'm like "ehhhh I don't know if I like that" but then when it all comes together I'm like 😍
I just wanted to let you know I am 16 and I want to be a interior designer. So I love getting nerdy with you!! I love your videos and I am so happy you choose to share your journey on UA-cam! Can’t wait to see your finished house!
You can tell alone how long lone of a process this has been from Kelsey's hair in the older clips, to her hair now!
I love how you share the ups and downs of the whole process. Thank you for being real
Amazing result! Just to let you know, all Matera is like that as is builded on a particular stone. The houses are called “Sassi di Matera”, Materas’s Stone. Is a truly breathtaking city, never seen something like that ✨
I loved the cut to the commentary while they were watching the rough cut haha
I love how you did things for your room! I think the green was a perfect choice and the blankets will look awesome. I’m currently redecorating my apartment rn and this gave me some great inspiration
I’m sorry you felt rushed to complete your own space but I thank you for posting! This video gave me so much genuine joy! I’m so in love with all the little details and I’m not going to lie watching this video and making tea earlier today has truly been the best parts of my day
Her home makeover videos are so addicting! I can’t wait until her home is finished, and they put so much effort and production into one video! 🥰💕💕
I'm loving this series so much! I just bought my first house too and it will be the first space that I'll have free reign on decorating. I love seeing you hunt for second-hand pieces. Most of my nights are spent on craigslist and marketplace and you give great inspo for how to upcycle pieces (I still swoon over your kitchen table when I see it in videos!)
There are design elements that works and doesn’t but I love that you took risks here. It’s where we learn. Well done Kelsey!
I just love the Series Making home! I get really really happy when you post Making Home episode
I feel like i would have painted the texture wall to make it pop a little more against all the white ones. Maybe even paint just the opposite wall. And also because it's not a dark color you could have done all the wall instead of 3/4. It still looks so beautiful though, don't listen to me 😊
Yeah! I like that 3/4 painted wall in general, but since the last wall is textured it would have been such an amazing accent wall!
I agree! When I saw the hotel inspo pics, I thought a stone coloured featured wall would look amazing on the textured wall. For me the headboard doesn't work either, I'd rather put the pillows up against the wall itself and allow the soft pillows to contrast with the textured stone.
the stone wall would look beautiful with a light light pink! i feel like that would match the inspo pics
I agree about the headboard not working, I think a simple and airy wood headboard would have gone better with the space.
Idk if you watch Sarah's Day but that's basically what she did.. she put vibey coloured textured walls in her bedroom, office and stairwell and left the rest of the walls white and plain to even further enhance the texture.
i loveeee the headboard extending out over the side tables!!! such a cool look, feels very cohesive and cozy!!
Re: headboard... You don't have to use plywood. What about cardboard or poster board or even corrugated plastic sheets? 💜🌞🌵😷
Or pegboard
Or that thin board in the back of cabinets and shelves. Also it's totally the wrong color
@@mellie4174 I so agree!
To whoever decided to cover the spiders with a cutsey spider pics, this arachnophobe thanks you!! The cutesy spider was definitely easier than real ones.
I was so happy about that too! It thought it was really considerate and sweet
The cutesy spider has a name. Look up "Lucas the Spider" on youtube.
he is the cutest spider evrrrr :)
i was actually sad about it lmao,, i wanted to see da real ones
Scared me anyways😅
I think that if you sew covered buttons all the way through the headboard it will be tufted and help with the wrinkled problem. And I agree with you on moving the mirror to above the dresser. Cute makeover
The fast images of the reveal were really hard to focus on. A slow pan would have been nicer. It was difficult to see the room and it gave a bit of a seasick feel.
